2009 was a great year for us: New album, new tour, lots of wonderful memories. Green Day fans are the best out there, and we thank you all for being a part of our corner of the internet.
I know 2010 will bring many more things for us to share, and I look forward to having you all be a part of it.
I hope everyone has a Happy New Year, and that the next twelve months are only better than the last.
Green Day is scheduled to perform tonight on New Year's Eve with Carson Daly, which will be on at 10pm on NBC.
My understanding is that tonights performance won't be live, but rather a special pre-taped performance which was filmed last month at the Nokia Center (that free concert which we posted about).
There's no solid confirmation, but I'm pretty certain that's what's going on considering that concert was hosted by 'Last Call with Carson Daly'. Either way, it's a new performance for most. Once we get the video, we'll share it here.
Hope you all have a safe, fun, wonderful night.
Setlist Aired So Far (11:14pm EST):
Know Your Enemy
Going To Pasalacqua (part)
Holiday
Minority
Welcome to Paradise (part)
21 Guns
Amazon and iTunes just released a second edition of the new 21 Guns single with the musical cast. This one features Matt Caplan singing the main vocals instead of Billie Joe. And doing a very good job at it, might I add.
Here's a preview
If you're interested in picking up the second version, you can get it on Amazon or iTunes for $1.29.

Finally, Green Day was in the November issue of Germany's Rolling Stone. Click on the thumbnail to the right to view the full size version of the scan.

"21st Century Breakdown" appeared on Smashing Magazine's 100 Obscure and Remarkable CD Covers. "Warm and grungy, this cd cover art also captures a tinge of teenage angst."
"21st Century Breakdown" also appeared in a NY Times article by Jon Pareles, entitled, Reggae and Rock Operas, Intimacies and Anthems. "21st Century Breakdown" is third on the list, with the following description:
'Green Day's second rock opera is more ambitious than "American Idiot": richer, more diverse, more urgent, more flat-out tuneful and also more confusing. The ultimate target of the songs' rage and frustration can be unclear - the most pointed song can only ask "Do you know your enemy?" - but the ambition and the spirit of punky rebellion are strong.'
Finally, Green Day appeared in the Top 10 of Last.fm's Best of 2009. "21st Century Breakdown" appears at spot number eight.
'Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool took some big risks over the past 10 years, and rarely have such career moves been so lucrative.'
They were also listed in the newest issue People Magazine's "Best and Worst of 2009". They were listed in the top 10 for the best of 2009.
'BIGGER AND BOLDER, GREEN DAY IS NOW IN THE BUSINESS OF MAKING EVENT RECORDS
After 2004's rock opera American Idiot, these punks produce another socially conscious concept album, ambitiously setting out to make a record that will still be played in the 22nd century. And with anthemic tracks like the epic title tune and the Beatles-on-steroids ballad '21 guns' they just may have succeeded'
Thanks to Tricia, Conor and Alex for submitting the above news.
Happy Holidays to all Green Day fans, especially our lovely GDA/GDC visitors. We hope you spend time with family and friends, and enjoy many presents. Speaking of presents, I have a small gift for you all:
According to novarock.at, Green Day will be playing in Nickelsdorf, Austria, June 11th through June 13th in 2010. Other bands playing include Rammstein, Bullet For My Valentine, Slayer, and The Hives. It looks pretty legitimate, but nothing has been confirmed on the official Green Day site yet. We'll let you know as we get more details.
Verizon is sponsoring a mash-up contest for Green Day fans. Head over to gdconcerts.com and create your own remix of one of a 4 songs from 21st Century Breakdown.
Basically, you select a pair of songs from the remix page and they break them into different instruments and vocals, then you can mess around with them to create a different sound.
The winning entries will be selected by the band, and you have a chance to win an autographed guitar signed by Billie Joe or a signed drum kit by Tre Cool. Pretty damn awesome.
So if you have a few minutes to spare, stop by this page and start messing around it. Get an idea of how it works then save your entry.
Earlier this month Green Day released their new version of 21 Guns featuring the cast of the American Idiot musical exclusively to AOL's Spinner. Now after about a month after its original release debut, the re-worked version of the song has been released to online MP3 music stores for download.
The track is available for you to buy on either Amazon MP3 or iTunes.
