1. Maria

It's about this guy's girlfriend who runs away and he is trying to find her. Meanwhile, she is so angry that she is doing rebellious things.

2. Poprocks & Coke

this song is about being faithfull to the people who means something to you, and being there to help them, even if they, or you screw up

3. Longview
Posted by KaitlynSophia on August 17 2009
I think it's just about having no life in general Just sitting around on the weekends constantly

4. Welcome to Paradise
Posted by Amanda on September 11 2009
Billie wrote this song because he and Mike had moved out of his mother's home and were now living on their own.

5. Basket Case
Posted by Jaques on September 18 2009
It's about being paranoid and having panic attacks - and as a teenager who has had very bad experiences with both (So bad I passed out) I can say it captures the feeling pretty well, right down to thinking you're going insane and mixing up words in your head. And the line "Am I just paranoid, or am I just stoned?" gives a good relation to how it feels like tripping when you're seriously stoned.

6. When I Come Around
Posted by Words-I-Might-Have-Ate on August 11 2009
Billie wrote this after he and his wife had a fight, telling her that he just needed some time to "come around."

7. She
Posted by Mariana Tello on September 20 2009
Most people think that this song is about a girl whose life is controlled by her parents, but I think that it talks about the life that the society creates for all of us. For me, this song is about a girl that realized that she can create her own future, her own life; she doesn't have to accept what the society imposes.

8. JAR
Posted by Tucker on June 05 2009
Mike Dirnt wrote this song for his friend Jason Andrew Relva (J.A.R) who died from injuries sustained from a car accident in 1992.

9. Geek Stink Breath
Posted by Adam on August 06 2009
FYI, BIllie had some meth bouts now and then in the early days. I think he realized how destructive and useless it was before getting clean and then writing this.

10. Brain Stew
Posted by Matt on July 26 2009
This song is about trying to fall asleep after a night of doing coke

11. Jaded
Posted by Marshall on August 07 2009
It makes sense that this song flows out of Brain Stew, where he cannot sleep, so he possibly uses drugs to ease the insomnia, and then he is "jaded." This song is partly about being high, but more importantly about always moving forward in life, regardless of how correctly you are moving (always move forward; going straight will get you nowhere)

12. Walking Contradiction
Posted by Danielle on September 15 2009
I think that this song is a sarcastic remark on how contradictory they were when Dookie became a success. By contradictary, I mean the age old rule on punk going mainstream and how "true" punk stays underground. "I believe I'm a walking contradiction and I got no rights." Basically, I think they were sarcastically saying that yep, they were walking contradictions and they were not punk, even though they are.

13. Stuck With Me
Posted by Tommy Ten Fingers on May 28 2009
Stuck With Me is a song that was written for every person who has ever been put down in their life by somebody who thinks they are better. The lyrics reject that elitism, and describe the desperate sense of alone-ness the dejected constantly feel.

14. Hitchin' a Ride
Posted by Zack on July 24 2009
Hitchin' a Ride is about someone who tried to let go of alcohol and drugs, but gave in and wants more. "I'm off the wagon and I'm Hitchin' a Ride"

15. Time Of Your Life
Posted by Seriousjin on July 18 2009
This song could be about a boy that has been left by a girl. He hopes that she has/had the time of her life, Maybe she cheated on him.

16. Redundant
Posted by Words-I-Might-Have-Ate on August 11 2009
It's about how when you say things too much, they don't mean anything. Billie wrote it for his wife.

17. Nice Guys Finish Last
Posted by Jos!e on October 19 2009
This song is about needing to be a strong individual to get what u want instead of being weak and getting stepped on.

18. Minority
Posted by bf zzz on September 22 2009
i think that this song means that you don't need any authority or permission to be yourself and to stand out from the crowd. Green Day is a great example of a minority - they are a band that stands out and are not afraid to show it - that's also a huge thing about being punk - you're not just a clone of everything else that's around you - you're just you!!!!!

19. Warning
Posted by Julianna on June 03 2009
Ths song is about being totally oblivious to the danger around you that is happening, but you can still live a care-free life. In a way, it's kind of like being in the right place at the right time!

20. Waiting
Posted by Ana [Kerplunk!] on May 27 2009
Well,I have to say that's my favorite song, but, anyways, I remember I was trying to understand why it was. After thinking about it for a long time, I realised it's because this is the most human song of Green Day.Ok,now I explain why. He's talking about, the chances that we have in our lifes, in this puntual moments that we have to think "I don't fucking care!" and jsut do it, because if we just ignore this moment, we're going to "WAIT" during our lifes, until our death. You have to do it,and don't think about it.That's why it's my favorite song, and that's why is the most human song, because everyone in the world has to wonder about that almost everyday.

21. Macy's Day Parade
Posted by Billie-Joes stunt double on September 09 2009
This song was written when the band were talking about splitting up. It was meant as a "final goodbye" to the fans and industry if the worst should happen.
