Metallica has been asked to step in for Green Day at the VooDoo Experience in New Orleans later this month after Green Day had to cancel the appearance. Metallica's Kirk Hammett talked to Fuse.tv and had this to say about filling in:
"We got a message about two days ago asking us if we were able to fill in for Green Day because Billie Joe was having some issues," says Hammett. "We discussed it between the four of us and we all said, 'Yeah.' It would be a great thing for us to do and it would also be great to help out Billie Joe because he's a friend of ours and we love Green Day. If we can help them out in any way possible, we're always happy to do it because we love those guys. It's a honor for us that they approached us and asked if we could fill in."
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich tells Rolling Stone
"Our good friends and fellow Bay Area residents Green Day had to unfortunately cancel their plans to be there, so we are more than happy to fill in for them in our own unique way. We're hoping we can fill those very large shoes and do them proud"
Thanks to Alan86 for posting this on the forum.
The two bands have a history of respect toward each other. Green Day recorded and released this video last year for Metallica's 30th birthday.
