This morning, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame released the nominees for its class of 2015 and Green Day has made the list.

This is Green Day's first period of eligibility as 2014 marks 25 years since they released their first EP, 1,000 Hours.

Joining Green Day as contenders are Nine Inch Nails, N.W.A, the Smiths, Lou Reed, Sting, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Kraftwerk, Chic, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, the Marvelettes, the Spinners, Stevie Ray Vaughan, War and Bill Withers. Pretty good company to be in.

This year's 15 nominees will be included on the voting ballot sent to the large international voting body. The voting body must submit their ballots before the end of the year when the Rock Hall will announce 2015's induction class.

From the Rock Hall's website regarding the induction process:
The Foundation's nominating committee selects nominees each year in the Performer category. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of more than 600 artists, historians and members of the music industry. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year.
Beginning in 2012, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opened Nominee voting to fans around the world. The Top Five Nominees as voted by the fans count for one ballot entry, which is weighted the same as individual ballot entries submitted by members of the international voting body. Voting is open through December 9th on the Hall's website by clicking here. Don't miss the little "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.

Green Day is no stranger to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as they have performed several times at induction ceremonies, most recently in 2012 when they inducted Guns 'n Roses into the Hall. They also performed a tribute to the Ramones in 2002.

The 2015 induction ceremony takes place April 18th in Cleveland, Ohio. The 2015 class will be announced towards the end of this year. Until then, go vote! Don't miss the little "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.
