Take care.

American Idiot was chosen as the Best Comeback Album ever by Rolling Stone Magazine. Full Article.

We have a new poll question up asking which recent Green Day cover you think is best. You can vote on the right side or on the GDA Poll page.

Click for full sizeTwo GDA visitors, Erin and Selynn, were flipping through their psychology book when they saw a picture of Billie Joe. The book has a quote from him talking about writing Basket Case as a way to deal with anxiety. Click the photo on the right to view full size. Thanks for sending it.

Contra Costa Times did an interview with Billie Joe's mom, Ollie Armstrong, along with his brother Alan and sister Marci.

It's a great interview mostly focusing on Ollie Armstrong raising her kids.

Happy Mothers Day

Idiot Club members can view some new pictures and some raw video from the Working Class Hero video shoot. Below is one of the photos, but please join the Idiot Club if you'd like to see the rest.

We've also posted up a few screen shots from the videos. Remember, this is just the raw video outtakes so we still aren't sure what the final thing will look like. The three videos posted are about 4 minutes long each, and are all of just the band playing the song.

MTV has confirmed that Green Day will be in the upcoming Simpsons movie.
From the article:
"Green Day is in the movie - I will publicly acknowledge that Green Day are in the movie," "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening laughed. "They're really good sports and I think we both honor them and 'Simpson'-ize them. You can take that however you want. They're really nice guys."

You can see a couple more screenshots from our orginal post from back in February.

Guitar Center has put up Mike's signature Squier Bass Guitar. I really like the white body with the black pick guard and star (images).

CD Universe has a Green Day holiday tribute album listed that'll be released June 5th. The album is called "Green Days of Christmas". No info on what songs or bands will be on the CD.

Thanks to Daniel and meghan for the info.

Happy 35th Birthday to Mike Dirnt.

Green Day & U2 lost to Justin Timberlake & Timbaland for the 'Best Hook Up' award at the 2007 MTV Australian Music Video Awards. Bummer?

Adeline Records has launched a new online store that includes some new items. Check it out.

The Working Class Hero page has been updated with more articles about the release.

Now, here's an amazing animated music video for Misery. It was made by an animation team at the Illinois Institute of Art. Very very awesome stuff.

Thanks to Ilona and Mark for the above news.

You can purchase Green Day's new single, Working Class Hero, by clicking here.

The recording is amazing. It starts off with just Billie Joe and a guitar, the music builds up and grows into a very powerful mid-section. The song ends with the last couple lines from the original John Lennon recording. Very awesome. it's just under 4.5 minutes long.

A longer preview of the song has been posted on our 'Working Class Hero ' page. I also posted up the lyrics on that page, as well as in our Lyrics section (under "W").

According to NME, the Working Class Hero single will be released tomorrow instead of today as we orginally thought. Some radio stations across the country are playing the song today though.

As soon as it comes out, we'll have a longer preview of it here on GDA, and give you links to purchase the song.

Update 1:55pm: For those of you wanting to hear it, WBCN out of Boston is expected to play the song within the hour. You can listen to their audio stream online through the link above.

Working Class Hero will be released on April 30th, and will be available on iTunes. We've setup a page with info and a short preview of the song. Click the image below to visit it.

Update 9:28PM: We just got word in that Green Day will start recording the music video for Working Class Hero next week. The video will be directed by Sam Bayer, who worked on all of the American Idiot music videos. No date yet when the video will come out.

Now that I've heard a preview of the song, I'm getting really excited for this single to be released.

You can purchase the first single off the album, #9 Dream by R.E.M., on iTunes. Click here

As i mentioned a few days ago, we will start accepting mail-in orders for the GDA Stickers today. Info on how to do so has been posted on the Orders Page. Please read all the details to avoid any confusion.

At the beginning of the year, I took off the daily quotes above the news; mostly because I ran out of quotes and didn't have time to sift through a ton of articles looking for good quotes. Well, obviously they're back up. A new quote everyday (at least for 30 days).

I'm rebuilding the Articles section. It's going to be a lot easier to navigate, with the ability to look for articles from certain years and magazines. I've been wanting to do this since last year, but i knew it would be time consuming; I was right. The redesigned section will launch next week.

In an episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition which aired earlier this month, a girl received a guitar autographed by Billie Joe. Talk about a good day.

Starting this Friday, we'll start taking mail in (cash, check, money order) orders for the GDA stickers for those of you who can't pay online.

GreenDay.net is raffling off a 'Sweet Children' 7" Vinyl EP. Tickets to enter are $10 each, with part of the proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity.

Green Day landed at #20 on Rolling Stone's list of the Top 25 Songs With A Secret. From the article:
“Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)”– Green Day: Misperceived as a love song, is really about a bitterness-filled breakup.

Check out the full list.

The autographed Gibson guitar we mentioned in the last update was sold yesterday for $5,000!! Very awesome.

A lot of you have been emailing us about an article on Ultimate-Guitar saying that Green Day was releasing three new albums in 2008. I won't link to the article, because it's very mis-leading. Green Day is not planning on releasing three albums. The news post on Ultimate-Guitar was just old news from last August when Billie Joe mentioned the band had at least 3 albums worth of new material, but they were unsure what direction the album would take. Don't worry, as soon as we get any legit word about work on the new album, we'll be sure to pass it on.

One of the most frequently searched for items on GDA is "The Network". I decided to put up a link under "The Band" on the left side to a page we created last year with info about the band. Along with that page, you can find photos of the band right here.

On April 21st there will be a live auction on eBay for a signed Gibon Billie Joe Signature Guitar. The starting bid is $400, and all the proceedes for the guitar will go to benefit Music Rising.

ChartAttack.com has an article about the plant named after Green Day that we mentioned earlier this month.

I'd like to give my sincerest thanks to all the people who have donated to GDA this month. We're getting really close to our goal, so thank you all for the help.

Mike's signature Bass guitar is being released in a Squier P Bass model, and is set to arrive April 27th. It's currently priced at $249, which is much more affordable than the original Precision Bass ($699).

Tre may be included in an upcoming TV documentary called 44 of the Most Ferocious Drummers. The show is set to begin shooting in May, but in the article from antimusic.com, no mention is made of when it will air, or on what channel. I'll keep an eye out for anymore details.

GreenDay.net posted up Day 2 of Billie and family in New Orleans. Here's an excerpt from Billie Joe's post:
Another special moment today was the ice cream truck passing by. All the kids (and grownups) ran the truck down for a hot afternoon treat. The ice cream truck music had a bit of a 808 drumbeat to it so everyone was kind of dancing as they were eating snow cones.

Check out the full post at GreenDay.net
Here's a short article from NME.com about it.

We've added all the new photos from Day 2 into Picture Vault.

Click for more photosBillie Joe and his family are in New Orleans volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. They are posting updates & pictures about it on the Green Day MySpace. Here is Billie Joe's update for today:
Today we worked at the upper 9th ward. I hung soffit over the front porch. I had to do some upside down hammering technique but we managed to get the job done. We felt a great sense of accomplishment when we finished. Before I nailed the last piece of soffit , I reached inside and wrote my name with a pencil and dated it.. Ben is a great construction leader. Jason was a great partner.. It was amazing to see everyone getting their hands dirty in good conscience, working together for the greater good.

A botanist from Switzerland emailed the NRDC to let them know of a plant he and his students discovered and named after Green Day. The plant, named Macrocarpaea dies-viridis (dies-viridis is Latin for Green Day), was found in February 2006 in Ecuador. You can read more about this on the Green Day + NRDC Blog.

Green Day will be alongside other bands like Blink 182, Bad Religion, Rancid, Offspring and others in the upcoming documentary about the punk scene in the 1990's. The film, titled "One Nine Nine Four", is being made by an Australian independent production company, and is expected to be released in 2008. Read full article.

Our wonderful visitors have been emailing us some pretty random stuff to help fill the seemingly large void in Green Day news. We expected an update from the band last month, but it never came through. Don't know why, but we're still working on it.

Lots of you emailed us to let us know about this photo floating around of Billie Joe with an "Emily's Army" shirt. He signed up as a supporter of Emily's Army, which is aimed at fighting against Cystic Fibrosis. You can get more info on their site.

Erin sent us an email with a picture of this billboard seen "on the way" to Chicago.

Here's an article Billie Joe wrote about The Sex Pistols in a 2005 issue of Rolling Stone. Thanks to Rachel for finding it

I spiffied up the Calendar on the bottom left. I changed the way the entire thing works, so it's compatible with Firefox now, and it looks a lot cooler. Plus, it's about 150x easier for me to edit now.

I've been up at my parents for Spring Break this past week. There will be an update next Monday with everything I've missed thus far. Green Day + NRDC is putting the final touches on the new video featuring Adrienne and 100 photos of Green Day + NRDC activists. They sent out emails to the folks who got selected, and sent emails to the folks who didn't get selected, letting them know that they suck at life.

Here's some local Green Day news for a couple places around the globe. For those of you in Latin America, A&E will be airing Bullet in a Bible on Sunday, March 18th at 9pm.

Thats all I have today. Everyone else go outside and enjoy the extra hour of sunlight.

Green Day will be recording the John Lennon song "Working Class Hero"
(original: lyrics | video) for the upcoming CD 'Instant Karma'. A video for the song is also expected. The album is being produced to benefit Amnesty International, which is trying to end the genocide in Darfur. Other expected artists include everyone from Willie Nelson and Jack Johnson to the Black Eyed Peas and The Cure. Current release date is June 12. Thanks to ssnn for the heads up.

The fact that they're recording that song makes this photo (from the Nov. 2005 issue of Rolling Stone) all the more meaningful.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm starting to go through Green Day concert withdrawals. So, I posted up a video of them playing 'Maria' back in 2002 in the GDA Video Player.

The Idiot Club was finally updated. They posted up a few videos of Green Day playing on the Fuse show Comp'd (from two years ago). They also mentioned they will have more videos coming in the next few weeks.

I've done a few minor fixes in a few random sections. Check the 'Updated' table on the top right of the site.

Hey everyone, sorry about the lack of updates. School's been kicking my ass the past few weeks, but I'm back to do some work here. So, I changed a few things around, and put up a new poll. I'll be working on other stuff throughout the weekend to try and bring some life back here.

Green Day and U2 are nominated for 'Best Hook Up' in the 2007 MTV Australia Music Video Awards. You can vote for them here. Thanks to Mrs. Hahn for the tip

BabyRock Records - Green DayHonestly, who wouldn't want this? A company called 'Baby Rock Records' is putting out a CD of Green Day songs as lullabies. A bit odd, but I'm still curious about it...

Zakk Wylde (guitarist for Ozzy) has some (mostly) kind words about Billie Joe in a recent interview with a Brazilian magazine. When asked who he thought could "handle the guitar," he replied,
That bastard Billie Armstrong(Green Day's leader) is a son of a bitch really good when composing some cool riffs. He doesn't solo shit, but... Fuck, those songs of his group are so cool even without having a fucking solo
