Many of you have written in letting us know that the Picture Vault has been down this weekened. Not really sure what happened, but we got it back up this morning. Click here to visit.
Today is the last day to enter our audio contest. Entries must be submitted by 11:59pm EST. Here are the details.
Thank you all very much for wishing me a happy birthday, and thanks Tyke for using such a ridiculous picture of me :D. Yesterday was great day spent with some friends and family.
GreenDay.com has posted the new Instant Karma tv commercial. We've put the video up in the GDA player which you can watch by clicking here.
I'd also like to post a correction about the Rolling Stone story I posted on the 17th. Green Day has not added lyrics to the new Simpsons song. We aren't sure where Rolling Stone heard that, but Brian from GreenDay.net has told us it's not true.
The 'Working Class Hero' shirt from Hard Rock is now available. The shirt has a Billie Joe design with 'Working Class Hero' written on the front, and has the signatures of all 3 members on the back.
It costs $24 which will also go to help out Amnesty International's campaign to help with the genocide in Darfur.
Our new contest will be starting today. We'll be asking for you guys to record yourself (audio only) playing/singing 'Working Class Hero'. The top 5 finalists will each win a copy of "Instant Karma" and one of Green Day's "Dream and Differ" dog tags.
In the newest issue of Rolling Stone (cover to the right), there's mention of Green Day's recording of the Simpsons theme song which will be released next month along with the movie.
Green Day aren't just making animated cameos in this summer's The Simpsons Movie - they're also writing the theme song. The rockers - who recorded their guitar-heavy take on the TV show's signature tune last year in San Francisco - added lyrics to the Danny Elfman-penned instrumental. The song will be released as a single on July 24th, three days before the film hits theaters, as well as on the soundtrack.
I hadn't heard anything about lyrics being added, but it should be interesting none-the-less. Lets keep our fingers crossed that it comes out up-to-par with Green Day stuff.
Thanks to 'TheBullwinkle' for posting this on the forum.
In the most recent issue of Blender they ask a brain surgeon what music she listens to, and she mentioned 'Brain Stew' as her number 1 song. Click here to read the scan. Thanks to ExtraordinaryxGirl for the scan.
KROQ ranked Green Day as the 4th biggest bands of all time, giving the top 3 spots to Sublime, Nirvana, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1st. Seriously, Sublime got higher than Green Day? Someone at KROQ needs to lay off the shrooms.
The official Green Day store on Cinderblock has been updated with a handful of new stuff. Including 3 "play-along" tab books and cd's that'll help you learn some Green Day songs. They're $15 each, and there's one for the bass, drums, and guitar.
Interpunk also has 3 new Green Day shirts coming up for sale on July 18th.
Many of you have also written in letting us know that the new movie "Surf's Up" includes two Green Day songs in the movie; 'Holiday' and 'Welcome to Paradise'.
The benefit-album 'Instant Karma' is finally out today. The new album has a total of 20 songs on two disc's, with bands ranging from Green Day and U2 to Jack Johnson and Snow Patrol.
You can purchase the new album from Amazon for $14.99. Proceeds from sales go to Amnesty International for their efforts to end the genocide in Darfur.
You can purchase Green Day's single 'Working Class Hero' on iTunes by clicking here.
To mark the release of the album, we'll be starting a new audio contest June 18th (next Monday). You can read some initial details on the forum. More details in a few days.
This weeks Kerrang Magazine includes a short article about Green Day and the upcoming Simpsons Movie.
In the article there is a quote from the shows creator Matt Groening who says this about Green Day, "They're really good sports and I think we both honour them and Simpsons'-ize them. You can take that however you want. They're really nice guys."
They also mentioned the upcoming Green Day release of the Simpsons theme song which will be out July 24th, three days before the movie release.
You can read the entire Kerrang scan right here. Thanks to Ashley for sending it to us. Discussion about it can be found on the forum.
You guys may remember that we asked for help back in February to buy a Music Rising guitar to give to someone who lost theirs in Hurricane Katrina. We're happy to let everyone know that the guitar will be given to Alabama Slim this weekend. Details about the whole thing have been posted on the forum.
There's an article floating around saying that Green Day is switching producers (from Rob Cavallo to Linda Perry). Green Day's management has let us know that it's not true.
At the beginning of the new movie "Knocked Up" there's a real short mention of Green Day. The mom asks what the kids would like to hear and the youngest daughter says "Green Day" over and over. Reminded me of my 4 year old niece who kept saying "I wanna watch Green Day" the entire time i was home last week. She got addicted to watching the Redundant music video, made me real proud.
I saw the movie tonight, and it's a fucking great movie. Go watch it.
The new music video has been posted. You can watch the video in the GDA Player by clicking here. (thanks to arohex for getting the video for us). If that doesn't work, you can use one of these links: MTV.com | Vh1.com
You can purcahse a download of the video from iTunes now. Click Here. Purchases will benefit Amnesty International.
Some screenshots have been posted up in the Picture Vault.

So...we have a server bill coming up on Thursday for $150. If any of you can donate online (via PayPal with credit/debit card or a PayPal account) please click here and help us out.
I get tired of asking for donations, but sometimes we just don't have enough funds if news is slow around here. So, thanks to each of you who help.
The new music video for Working Class Hero will debut on TRL (MTV) on Thursday, May31st. We originally heard it would be today, but both MTV and Reprise say Thursday.
You will be able to purchase and download the video from iTunes on that same day. Proceeds will go to Amnesty International.
We plan on having the video available to watch in our streaming video player, we won't put the video up to download though (we'd prefer people to purchase the download from iTunes to support Amnesty International).
Entertainment Weekly talked with Sam Bayer (director) about the upcoming Working Class Hero music video. He mentions that the video will have some dialouge from survivors of the genocide in Darfur, as well as keep the old "documentary style" of the original Lennon music video. Full Article
What's this video going to look like when it's done? I look at this old John Lennon footage, like the sit-in in '68, and there's very much a pseudo-documentary quality to that stuff, like handheld 16mm film. So we're doing the video in black and white, and I'm trying to keep the spirit of John Lennon in the footage. I think it's got the feeling of something that could have been made in the late '60s, early '70s — you know, when people gave a s--- about changing the world. And that I really mean.
The article also has a brief review of the recent Green Day performance on American Idol.
Green Day will be releasing their rendition of the classic Simpson's theme song on July 24th for the movie soundtrack. Full Article on Billboard.com.
Green Day has designed a Working Class Hero shirt that will be for sale at Hard Rock Café shops. The profits from the shirt will also go to Amnesty International. Here's a quote from Billie Joe about it:
“We are excited to be a part of the Signature Series program and proud to partner with Hard Rock for such a great cause,” said Billie Joe Armstrong, lead singer and guitarist of Green Day. “The program is going to provide tremendous support for Amnesty International and Instant Karma, a campaign that we sincerely believe in and are committed to.”
The shirts will be available on the Hard Rock Shop online on June 12th.
We have put up around 40 photos (pretty good quality) in the Picture Vault from last nights performance on American Idol.
You can watch the performance in the GDA Player by clicking here.
For those of you just finding out about Working Class Hero, you can purchase the single from iTunes by clicking here. Visit the Current Projects page for more info about the song.
We just got word in that the Working Class Hero video will debut next Tuesday, May 29 on TRL, and will be airing every hour on both MTV2 and MTVU.
