Someone stopped by our forum and posted a screenshot of a new layout for Green Day.com. The new site is expected to be launched next month, and will include some extra videos and content available for free to all users. It was confirmed by the Idiot Club staff that they would be doing a redesign, but unlike the post on the forum (which suggested they would be getting rid of the Idiot Club), they said the Idiot Club would continue on and would also be getting a make-over.
You can visit our forum to see the screenshots and read what was posted. We'll have to wait for official word from Green Day.com to know for sure whats happening.
Our monthly server bill is coming up, and unfortuantely advertising on GDA isn't cutting it anymore. We'd really appreciate the help from those of you who can help us out. We pay around $300/month for servers here, to make downloads and other content available, and I'd appreciate help with paying for at least one server, which is $190/month. If you'd like donate through cash/check, visit the donation page. Thanks in advance to all of you who are willing to help us out.
Fall Out Boy recently played Basket Case at one of their shows. You can watch the video of their performance on YouTube. It's an alright cover, much better than Avril Lavgine's version, but obviously not nearly as good as Green Day. I'm not sure if it's the music or the showmanship, but they just don't even come close to Green Day.
Mr. Tre Cool showed up at Rock-Star Karaoke at Slideshow in Fullerton, CA. There are a some pictures and a video on YouTube from the night. Click the images below to visit the Picture Vault.

As part of the upcoming 50th Anniversary of the Grammys, My Night at the Grammys.com is allowing people to vote for their favorite Grammy moments. Included in the list is Green Day playing 'American Idiot' from the 2005 Grammys. To vote for them, drag the thumbnail of your favorite moments to the boxes to the bottom of the screen (obviously putting Green Day in first) then click "Vote Now". You must select 5 videos before you're allowed to vote. You can vote once per day till October 7th.
So lets go Green Day fans, voting is what we do best when we're not all apathetic angsty teens.
Today is already the 3rd anniversary for American Idiot. The album came out September 21, 2004. We've got a discussion going on the forum remembering our wonderful first impressions when we got the album.
Have a look through our news archives from 3 years ago to remember the craziness around here the week of the album release.
Larry Livermore (founder of Lookout Records) was one-third of a recent panel talking about punk's history, present and future. He mentions Green Day a few times in the discussion talking about how they've made it to the mainstream from the punk scene.
The Ramones and Sex Pistols started out very anti-establishment, not intending to. Even though Green Day are multi-millionaires now, I don’t think it ruined their music, but it inspired a lot of clones. Making a lot of money affects the reality of music.
It's a pretty good read, if you're interested you can read the rest of it here.
Green Day was mentioned in Q's list of best award ceremony moments. They talk about Billie Joe walking up to a DJ at the end of an after party and asking him to play 'When I Come Around'. Apparently Billie Joe ended up being the only person to go out and dance on the floor, to his own music. They also mention that he was "very, very drunk". You can find the entire list here.
I've enabled the comment system for the news. You can now add comments by clicking the "Comments" link below each post.
We will be manually approving each post (for a while) just to add some moderation. Only a couple rules/suggestions to ensure your comment gets posted.
1) Please only add comments relevant to the news post. 2) Please don't advertise your site/myspace/email. 3) Avoid using shortcuts in your typing (i.e. "i cnt belve u 4got to add ma c0mment"). We'd like your comments to be understandable by normal humans as well.
I look forward to hearing your feedback once again on items posted here on GDA.
There is a interview with Billie Joe about the Adeline Street clothing line posted up on YouTube. The interview is from this past weekend at the MAGIC convention.
I've put up "Dominated Love Slave" in the Video Downloads. The video is from a show in England in 1991. You can find links for the entire show on the forum if you're interested.
Last year we featured 'Pensive' as one of our Bands of the Week. They just released a new album called "Artifacts" and it's really damned good. I got the chance to see them live earlier this year, and they put on an awesome show. I really suggest taking a listen to their new stuff on their MySpace and you can buy their new album on their site.
Once again Billie Joe and Adrienne attended the MAGIC convention fashion show last weekend to promote Adeline Street.
Nothing too exciting, but there are a couple photos posted up in the forum.
I went up to my visit my parents this weekend so sorry I'm a bit late on this update, also there hasn't really been much going on. I'm working on stuff to keep you guys entertained (while we wait for our Q&A to get back to us) and hopefully we'll get something going real soon.
The fan tattoo section is currently offline while it undergoes a much needed face-lift. Users will finally be able to submit their Green Day tattoo's to the page once it's back up (should be up by tomorrow afternoon).
We currently have over 10 pages of some pretty awesome tattoo's, so there's something to look forward to.
We got an email back about our Q&A with Green Day. Their manager let us know that the guys won't be around to answer our questions for 2-3 more weeks. So hopefully we'll be able to post them up sometime in September.
Adeline Street.com has re-opened it's online Corner Store where you can order merchandise such as shirts, pants, jackets, hoodies, etc.
Sorry the serious lack of updates, there just hasn't been anything going on. Many of you have sent in emails asking about that Q&A with Green Day. We sent off the questions already, and now we're just waiting to hear back from the band. We'll be sure to update you guys as soon as we get them back.
"The 11th Hour" is intense. It tells us the truth that nobody wants to hear: that human beings, especially greedy corporate executives and their politician cronies, are responsible for putting our planet in serious danger. If things don't change soon, life on Earth may not survive. It has to be this generation that breaks the chain between the polluting corporations and the crooked politicians, this generation that changes its habits so there's something left for other species and the people who come after us.

Green Day ranks at #50 with Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) on perthnow's list of 50 Best Songs - Ever. Check out the list here. Thanks Ilona for the link.
In case anyone is looking to buy one of the rare Sweet Children 7" vinyls, I have one for sale on eBay. Bid quickly, I only did a one day auction.
What happens when monsters of rock bridge the mainstream punk generation gap to bring a major issue to light? "The Saints Are Coming" as performed by U2 and Green Day. The pop and punk bands speak to everyone's grief and the Animals lend a hand with the lyrics
Hey all. Not much news out there today. There is an article here at Undercover about Tre's cover of Chocolate Rain. That's about all I have for ya today.
Billie Joe is shown briefly in the trailer for the upcoming punk documentary "Punk's Not Dead". According to NME, "The film is an exploration of the evolution of punk rock featuring dozens of interviews with prominent punk artists as well as rare concert footage." Green Day are mentioned to be featured alongside the Ramones, NOFX, Social Distortion, Bad Religion, Sum41, MCR, and some other bands.
Many of you wanted Tre's "Chocolate Rain" song in mp3 format, click here to download it.
Adam Levine (from Maroon 5) mentioned Green Day's song 'Burnout' as one of his top 5 songs. The list came out in the most recent issue of Rolling Stone. Thanks to Sophia for the news and the scan.
We have been given the opportunity to do a Q&A with Green Day, and we want our visitors to supply us with the questions that we'll be sending to Green Day.
Matt Groening and James L. Brooks did an interview with MTV's Kurt Loder and talked about Green Day a little bit. Read the interview here at MTV. Thanks Ilona for the link.
Thank you to everyone who donated so far to keep this site alive! We appreciate it.
Some friends and I went out to watch the Simpsons Movie last night, and it was incredible. The movie is made even more worthwhile because Green Day pretty much opens up the movie. Even though the band is on the screen for less than two minutes, it's still very entertaining. I don't want to post the details so that it remains somewhat a surprise for those of you that want to watch it. Bottom line, you really should go out and see it. The whole movie was very well done and remained pretty damn funny through the entire thing.
And for those of you that don't remember, Green Day is trying to raise awareness of environmental issues outside Springfield as well. You can keep up with the stuff they're trying to do through the Green Day + NRDC website and their MySpace.
Thinking about adding Instant Karma to your CD collection? Read a review here at the Pittsburgh Tribune. Thanks to Ilona for the link.
It's almost showtime for The Simpsons Movie! I was reading an article on CNN about it today. A smile came to my face when I read this.
The main voice cast -- Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer -- is joined by other series regulars, one superstar celebrity and a major musical guest band.
If you're a huge Simpsons guru or if you're bored read the article here.
Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday yesterday!
Green Day are in the Issue 90/August 2007 edition of Big Cheese Magazine. It's a PUNK: '77-'07 Collector's Edition featuring bands such as Green Day, The Living End, and The Clash. According to haushinkapritchard on the forum, Billie Joe says "they have lots of songs but they just need to figure out how to put them together to make an album and he has no fucking clue when it will be released." That sucks, but all great things take time.
There is a preview of The Simpsons Movie at Screenjabber, here. WARNING: If you do not want to read spoilers about the movie, do not click on this link. This has been beaten to death, but make sure you go see the movie July 27th when it opens.
Andres is having a little trouble with his internet. He thinks it should be back up in about a week. Just so you know, in case he's not answering his e-mail from you, he's not ignoring you. Or is he? Hrmmm.....
Green Day's cover of "Working Class Hero" was rated number 54 in the New York Post's 100 Best Covered Songs of All Time.
"Billie Joe Armstrong-fresh from ranting about the "American Idiot"- is the pitch-perfect voice to cover Lennon's fok song about bureaucratic brainwashing."
There is an article that mentions Green Day on the upcoming soundtrack to The Simpsons Movie. Read the article here at The Hollywood Reporter. Thanks to Joey for the link.
Green Day made #19 on Spinner's 20 Protest Songs That Matter list with Minority.
In which rambunctious Billie Joe Armstrong goes explicitly political, pledging eternal allegiance to society's misfits, the downtrodden and the outnumbered. Since this song, the poster band for juvenilia has been active in alternative energy advocacy, Hurricane Katrina relieve and a rock opera about nonconformity.
Sorry guys, there hasn't been much news to report lately.
Ozzy Osbourne thinks American Idiot is "fucking brillant" as well. I always knew he was awesome. Read about it here, when he lists his top five favorite hard rock bands at Spinner.
First off, the GDA staff would like to thank everyone for their happy birthday/anniversary wishes yesterday. And also thanks a lot to the people from the forum for all the great banners. There was a small mention of Green Day in the July 16 issue of In Touch Weekly about the new Working Class Hero shirt for The Amnesty International Campaign To Save Darfur. Read it here. Other websites are also posting articles are Freep.com and Hot Press. You can buy the shirt at the Hard Rock Cafe.
Speaking of Working Class Hero, you can vote daily at Much Music's MOD for the video for the song to be on the countdown. Click here to vote.
On this day, 6 years ago, I launched the website known as The Green Day Authority. As we do every year we have an anniversary, I'd like to thank all you guys and my team for making this site the greatest Green Day fan site on the Internet. I'm looking forward to even more great years to come! Happy 6th Anniversary GDA!
All the banners appearing at the top of the site today were made by different people on the forum.
The 10 finalists in our Working Class Hero Contest have been posted up for you guys to listen and vote on. Voting will end at 11:59PM EST this Sunday, July 15th. GO VOTE!
We'd like to post a correction on some news we had up earlier. It has been confirmed that Green Day will not be doing any signings at the NYC Hard Rock Cafe. Sorry, when I posted the news I didn't know that it was unconfirmed at the time.
Green Day were ranked at #4 on Live Earth's list of the top 15 Environmentally Friendly Bands. There are 2 small articles about it at MSN and Net Music Countdown.
This morning on the Kevin and Bean show on KROQ, they played a short preview of Green Day's cover of the Simpsons Theme song. Click here to listen. Thanks to Aaron for the info and link.
As the release of The Simpsons movie comes closer (July 27th), I'd expect we'd hear more about Green Day's cameo in the movie. Apparently, "Green Day is booed and pelted when it starts speaking about the environment to a Springfield crowd". Here's the article on AOL that I found giving us a little sneak peek at what Green Day's role is. It's only a brief mention, but it's something new to me!
The Adeline Army is having a contest on Buzznet giving away a bunch of free merchandise. Click here for all the details on entering.
Our fourth round of entries have been posted up for voting in the WCH Contest. If you sent in your entry, and it hasn't already been posted, please send us an email (contest@greendayauthority.com) so we can make sure we got it.
We'd also like to wish Billie Joe and Adrienne a (late) Happy Anniversary. They were married 13 years ago on July 2nd, 1994.
Many of you wrote in to let us know that in the new Transformers movie, you can see a "nimrod." poster in the room of the main character, Sam. I haven't seen the movie yet, but everyone who wrote in to us also mentioned that it kicked ass. I guess I'll have to go watch it later this week.
Thanks to all of you who donated this month. You guys always pull through when I need your help, and I really do appreciate it.
The second batch of entries have been posted up for voting in our 'Working Class Hero' audio contest. You can listen and vote on the entries right here. I gotta admit, all of these are really impressive. It's a tough one.
I'd also like to congratulate Valeria (entry #3) and CJ Dean (entry #5) who both won in the last round. They will move forward to the final round.
Gigwise.com posted about Green Day's "Working Class Hero" Hard Rock t-shirts. They mention the shirts will be available in Hard Rock Cafe's across the world on July 12th (even though I believe they were released June 12th).
Spinner.com listed Ozzy Osbourne's top 5 rock bands. He mentioned Green Day as the fifth (following Nirvana and Black Sabbath...). He said, "My album of the last year was ['American Idiot']. I thought it was fucking brilliant". Right on, Ozzy.
You can vote for "Working Class Hero" on MTV's TRL by clicking here.
We still have the stickers with the Billie Joe quote ("There's nothing wrong with being a loser...it just depends how good you are at it") available for sale. Click here for the details.
