We've finally put up all the photos submitted to us from Halloween. Check out the photos of the Green Day themed pumpkins, and fans dressed up as Green Day for Halloween.

Earlier this month, NME published their top 50 picks for the coolest music personalities, in their "Ultimate Cool List." Billie Joe didn't make the list, but he's included among the artists that fans can vote for to determine the fans' top ten choices. To vote for him, just click this link (you'll notice on the right side it says "you just rated Billie Joe"). You can also place votes here. Update: When I posted this item, his rating was 3.85, on a scale from 1 to 10. It's now at 7.12 and he's number two on the list.
[Thanks to minoritychic]

VH1 compiled a list of the "100 Greatest Songs of the '90s." It includes Green Day's Good Riddance. You can vote for your favorite songs from that list, here.

Holiday was played during the Macy's Day Parade today by the Marching Ravens.

Update: Here's a video on YouTube. Thanks to Jeff for the link.

We've uploaded an mp3 of them playing for you guys to download, click here. Thanks to Matt C. for sending us the audio.

Billie Joe's and Adrienne's Adeline Street clothing label is holding an open casting call for models. It will take place on Dec. 1 in Santa Ana, California. For more information, check Adeline Street's MySpace.

Green Day are nominated for the Italian Kids' Choice Awards, which will be held on Dec. 1. They're up against Justin Timberlake, Avril Lavigne, and Hillary Duff. To vote, go here, and click on "Miglior Cantante/Gruppo Internazionale."

In our last update, we had news about the upcoming documentary film onenineninefour. There's also another good documentary about punk rock called Punk's Not Dead that was released last summer. It includes interview clips with Billie Joe. Keep checking the film's website to see if it's coming to your city. The next screening dates are in Albuquerque, Eugene, and Hartford.

And we'd like to re-mention the complete Rolling Stone Cover to Cover DVD box set. Just to clarify, these DVDs contain every issue ever published of Rolling Stone magazine. Each issue is individually scanned page-by-page. The DVD box set can be purchased at bookstores or it can be ordered online. Click here for more information.

And a Happy Thanksgiving from everyone at GDA!

A trailer for the documentary film oneninenefour, about the explosion of punk rock in the 90s, which was led by the meteoric rise of Green Day, has just been released and is posted on the film's website. It features interview clips with Fat Mike of NOFX, Tim Armstrong of Rancid, Mark Hoppus of Blink 182, Larry Livermore, founder of Lookout Records, and more. The film's site says they will be interviewing Billie Joe next week and he'll be in the final cut of the film, which should be finished in early 2008. (You can also watch the trailer on YouTube.)

In the recent Total Guitar Magazine there's an article about Green Day and their new album. Nothing new though, just a summary of the same things said in Rolling Stone. Also in the same magazine, there's a letter thanking TG for printing a "How To Play" of Green Day's cover of the Simpsons theme, which was in the last issue. (The articles are in the magazine, not on the website.)
[Thanks to Riley]

Green Day's Boulevard of Broken Dreams will be featured on a new rock CD honoring the 50th anniversary of the Grammy Awards. There will be a series of seven discs, to be released on January 8th, all under the series name Ultimate Grammy Collection.

Jason Freese, who played keyboards, sax, and more on Green Day's American Idiot tour, is producing an album for the band Death by Stereo. There's a new video on YouTube of him goofing around in the studio, playing the birthday song on the saxophone.

Billie Joe often mentions the band Husker Du as an important influence. In a new interview, Bob Mould of Husker Du said this about Green Day and the bands that followed them:
Green Day is an amazing band, but it’s sort of like the bands after them that wore the eyeliner and played fast and shopped at Hot Topic, that was more important than trying to sort of raise a social consciousness or trying to create something new. There was a couple of years where there was sort of mall punk stuff, where I was like wow, you’re really missing the point here.

In the current issue of Kerrang, readers voted for "the most thrilling, most memorable and most insane live shows the UK has ever seen." Green Day came in at number two with their performance at Milton Keynes in 2005. There's a picture of Billie Joe on the page, and on the front cover. These are the top rankings:
5. Rage Against The Machine, Reading 2000
4. Foos, Hyde Park 2006
3. Metallica, Download 2006
2. Green Day, MK Bowl 2005
1. Muse, Wembley Stadium 2007
[Thanks to Peggy and Sylvee]

In the December issue of Blender, the magazine's editors have compiled "The 100 Greatest Indie-Rock Albums Ever." These are albums that were released on independent or semi-independent labels. Number 47 on the list is Green Day's Kerplunk.
[Via Stereogum] Update: The list is now online.

In People magazine, there's an article with Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters, where he talks about his new baby and his family, and he makes a brief mention of Billie Joe. Grohl says: "My mom was just on a 10-day tour with us. There are times where I'll walk upstairs after the show, and my mom will be sitting on the couch with Billie Joe [Armstrong] from Green Day, drinking a pint of beer. She's totally cool."
[Thanks to Jade]

And on iTunes, a Bridge School Concert collection album was just released. Green Day is on it playing Hitchin' a Ride and Longview. It is all acoustic.

That's all, just some little nibbles today.

Rolling Stone's 40th Anniversary issue is available online, free, in a digital edition. It contains every page exactly as it appears in the magazine. You can leaf through the pages as if you were reading the magazine in print, skip ahead, or use the search function. The interview with Billie Joe is on page 140. (It's the same interview that was posted on Rolling Stone's website on Nov. 1, the only difference is the format.) Here is a larger version of the photo.

There's also an extra tidbit where Billie Joe talks about his musical influences:
Husker Du's "Up In the Air" goes, "Poor bird flies up in the air/Never getting anywhere." For me -- sitting in my bedroom in Rodeo, California, with a little weed, hanging out with my friends -- that was huge. There's no place I can see myself going, except for the trip inside my head. In The Replacements' "Answering Machine" Paul Westerberg is just screaming at an answering machine. It's the complete lack of connection. That's what you're up against -- walls and air.

The entire Rolling Stone catalogue is available for sale in digital form in a DVD box set. It contains over 98,000 pages of the magazine.

In other news, the recently released teen novel Slam, by Nick Hornby, makes a lot of references to popular music, including Green Day. A book review in the New York Times says that when the teenage protagonist's girlfriend becomes pregnant, "the music he brings to play while she's in labor includes American Idiot by Green Day."

Mike Dirnt was in Sicily, Italy, in mid-October of this year, and some very happy-looking fans got their pictures taken posing with him. See all the pictures in the Picture Vault.

Sources: Jimmoccio's My Space and Mupsters MySpace.

And if you haven't seen it yet, there's also a short video on YouTube of Mike Dirnt hanging out with some fans in Italy on October 14, playing guitar and chatting.

Thanks to Andres for inviting me to help post news here, and hi to all!

Today Mr. Jason White is celebrating his 34th birthday. Happy Birthday from the entire GDA Staff.

Billie Joe is quoted in a new book about The Replacements. :
First time was when I was fifteen years old, at the Filmore in San Francisco. My sister made me go. They all came out in really bad plaid suits; it was right when Pleased to Meet Me came out. It was amazing. It changed my whole life. If it wasn't for that, I might've spent my time playing in bad speed-metal bands

Today we're happy to announce that Delfina from Nothing Wrong With Me.com has joined the GDA team as a News Editor. She'll be helping post the news around here so that hopefully we can do a better job of keeping up to date. We welcome her to the team.

And lastly, you might notice the Donate bar up top has been put back up. As always we would appreciate any help from you guys in keeping this place online. You can click the Donate link up top to pay online through PayPal (debit/credit cards) or click here to visit the donate page to send donations via the mail. Thanks to all of you willing to help us out.

Adrienne Armstrong has teamed up with Jamie Kidson (a clothing designer and co-owner of some other shops in Berkley) to open up Atomic Gardens. It's a clothing and home goods store that is community oriented and eco-friendly. You can read up on the new place in this blog post from 'More Ways to Waste Time'.

Adrienne was also part of a podcast with Vickie Howell where she also talked about the new shop and about going to New Orleans to help Habitat For Humanity. You can find that podcast here. The picture to the left is Billie Joe and Adrienne with Vickie Howell. Visit Vickie's blog for a larger version of the picture.

Billie Joe showed up with his kids and Adrienne at a Hannah Montana/ Jonas Brothers concert last Thursday. The person who took the picture to the right wrote that Billie was generous in taking time to take photos with the tons of people who recognized him. She also said "it was really cute to see him jumping up and down and rocking out to hannah montana.".

The bassist from the Jonas Brothers wrote in his blog that he saw Billie Joe backstage:
Also, i saw someone i recognized backstage today. he had a small beard going and was with his wife and kids. it was billie joe from green day. guess his kids are hannah montana fans or he is just really into the disney music scene. it's slightly weird looking up to a person you've never met and playing their songs all throughout middle school and then one day you wake up on a thursday and you're 21 and now that person shows up and watches you work...

Rolling Stone interviewed Billie Joe for their 40th anniversary. They have the written article with a 6 minute audio clip up top with part of the interview, and they also have a short video interview with Billie Joe at the photo shoot.

The article is really fucking good. They talk about his feelings toward the current political climate, the state of punk rock, parenting, and what it's been like for him since the first time he was on Rolling Stone in 1994.

Green Day's 2005 performance of American Idiot (at the Grammy's) was voted as one of the top 25 Grammy moments of the last 50 years, and will be part of My Night At the Grammy's airing on November 30th at 8pm ET on CBS.

Also included were Prince & Beyonce, Eric Clapton, Barbra Streisand, Eminem and Elton John and a few other musicians that I don't listen to regularly...or at all. Either way, the show might be worth checking out just for the sake of Green Day.

We have over 200 images posted up in the Picture Vault from that Grammy night in 2005.

Billie Joe's Gibson Les Paul has been included as an unlockable guitar in the new Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock. Even more reason for me to get my ass to the store today and pick up a copy of the game.

The Network's site is back online after months of "Cumming Soon". Nothing too spectacular was changed. After the site loads, there are some links at the bottom of the page. But, the forum is still offline and they still kept the same layout. Not sure why the long downtime.

Billie Joe attended the "Keep a Child Alive" concert in New York City last night which is aimed at raising money to help provide medicine to people in Africa affected by AIDS.

You can find photos from the event in the Picture Vault.

Talk about it on the forum

After a long week of server issues, GDA is back online and working again. Thank you all for being so patient while we got these issues fixed.

Onto what we do best, Green Day news.

The Idiot Club is having two contests for the month of October. They are asking members to create a new Green Day + NRDC wallpaper which will be featured in the "Free Downloads" section and they are also having a pumpkin carving contest. It doesn't necessarily have to be Green Day related, just skillfully done. Prizes include autographed posters, a Billie Joe Gibson guitar, and Mike Dirnt Fender bass. Winners for both contests will be chosen on November 1st. Visit the Idiot Club for anymore details.

The Green Day's of Christmas: The Holiday Tribute to Green Day was released yesterday by Vitamin Records (which also released "Can You Rock" and is part of CMH Records which released "Pickin' on Green Day: A Blue Grass Tribute"). The album has 10 Green Day songs, both old and new, which have been turned into Christmas songs (with bells and horns, the whole deal...). You can listen to some previews of the songs on their website.

Amnesty International has an ongoing poll on the Instant Karma site asking for people to vote for their favorite tracks from the album. Avril Lavigne's version of "Imagine" has a huge first place lead over Green Day's "Working Class Hero" with over 14,000 votes. Click here and vote for Green Day, I know we can surpass 15,000 votes.

Billie Joe has sent out another email to Green Day + NRDC users. This message asks members to help keep Toyota responsible and ask them to stop trying to pass legislation that would force car-makers to build cars with better gas mileage. We have the full letter up to read on our forum, click here.

Longview made it to #12 on CTV's list of Top 15 into riffs.

The official 2008 Green Day Calendar has been released. Nothing special this year. It has some black and white photos of some already over-used pictures, including some from the Nimrod/Warning era.
Posted Sunday, October 14, 2007 at 2:42pm by Andres
nimrod. was released 10 years ago today. Crazy to think it's already been a decade. Behind Warning, nimrod. is one of my favorite albums. I guess i'm a sucker for Green Day trying out new styles.

Leave us your thoughts on the album in the comments.

(this is the last album anniversary till next month. phew)

Sorry for the downtime we've been having at GDA. We're having some problems with our server, and we're working with our host to get it resolved. If you come by and the site doesn't work, try later in the day. We hope to have everything figured out by the end of next week.

We'll continue updating the site as normal.

Billie Joe just sent out this message to all Green Day + NRDC members. He talks about Al Gore winning the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on bringing focus to climate change.

I just heard that Al Gore just won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in the fight against global warming. I think it's great that this issue is finally getting the recognition it deserves. It's becoming a part of our everyday lives. People aren't just talking about it, we're really starting to live it. And I feel that Al Gore has been very influential in bringing this into the mainstream.

Kudos to you, Al Gore. Please do your part to help stop global warming by telling Congress to pass tough global warming legislation:

Billie Joe Armstrong

Insomniac was released 12 years ago today. Happy Birthday, Insomniac.

I wish i had something cool to say about the album, like i did for Warning. I'll leave it up to you guys to comment on your thoughts about Insomniac in the comments. I'll add a couple of user comments to the news.

Some people were speculating that with a few new t shirt designs and an upcoming re-design to GD.com, that it wouldn't be too long before we got an update about the new album. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we should be expecting anything soon. Rolling Stone magazine recently sat down with Billie Joe to talk to him about the progress of the new material, and he said they have about 45 songs, but they still aren't sure what direction they're working in. Billie mentions that most of the songs were written on the piano and that he's still working to write music that seems real to him.
I want to dig into who I am and what I'm feeling at this moment - which is middle-aged. We've been doing this for almost twenty years now. You want to make sure you're being honest with yourself. I also have to ask myself 'What's real out there?' Right now, it seems stagnant

There's finally some new Green Day merch. The GreenDay.com store was updated yesterday with three new t shirt designs and a new hoodie. Click here to visit the store, or click each of the thumbnails below to see each of the new items.

I'm really liking the designs on each of the shirts, though this one has to be my favorite. Looks like I better start saving up to buy some new Green Day shirts (and i need some new ones too.) The shirts are each $20 and the hoodie is $40.

7 years ago today Warning was released. Probably considered one of Green Day's most "experimental" albums, it was none the less filled with songs that showed the great artistry the band has always shown.

This was the first album I bought, and the one that got me stuck on Green Day. I remember the first time I heard Minority and thought "i'm not sure if i like this or not." Lucky for me, I did. So i downloaded the song and listened to it over and over and started looking up information on the band. Thats how i stumbled across GDA and within a few months owned most of their CD's.

Till this day this is my favorite Green Day album. The lyrics are some of the best I think Billie Joe has ever written, and each time I play it, it takes me back to a really awesome time in my life.

Join me in celebration of this albums 7th anniversary and listen to the entire thing sometime today.

GreenDay.com has confirmed that a new layout is coming soon and that the Idiot Club would not be canceled, but will also be undergoing a make over.

As for the screen shots posted on GDA, we cannot verify those. As far as we know, those are fake. If we hear anymore about the new site, we'll pass it along.
