Vinyl Collective posted the cover art for the upcoming Pinhead Gunpowder 7 inch vinyl record, pictured on the right. You can see a larger version by clicking here.

The record will contain the three new songs debuted by Pinhead Gunpowder at the live shows last February, and it is self-titled, just "Pinhead Gunpowder."

We're waiting on more information as to whether the songs will be available in any other format besides vinyl. We'll let you know as soon as we know. There is no firm release date yet, but the record should be out soon, probably in the next couple weeks.

For more info, check our earlier post with further details if you missed it, by clicking here.

The official online store by Cinderblock has a few new Green Day shirts (not the ones we mentioned would be released from Hot Topic).

A couple of shirts feel like they were designed in 1980, not sure if that's good or bad...I don't really like them. Another one has an eroded 1039/Smooth cover on it (probably my favorite design) and another has a more vintage Green Day design.

I feel like that blue/green shirt could have been worn by someone on "Saved By the Bell"

As mentioned a couple days ago, Green Day is part of Big Cheese magazines "Punk's Not Dead" issue. GDA visitor, Tobi, sent in some photos of the article, and you can read their in-depth review of Dookie. Since they are just pictures, it's kind of hard to read the full article that's in the background, so if anyone has scans, please email us. But here's what we got. It's definitely a good write-up on Dookie and a review of each song, it is a pretty good read. Thanks to Tobi for the pics.
Happy Monday! Hope everyone is having a good start to another week.

I'm a little confused about the decision from VH1 to include Basket Case in a list of songs available to vote for in their 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs. Who decided Basket Case was hard rock? But really, who cares, right? We get a chance to vote for Green Day, we'll take it.

The list is being compiled for a show they'll do later in the year showcasing the final 100 that are voted on. So visit that page and scroll down to 'Green Day' or type their name in the search box and select them to vote for it. Thanks to Joe_Sosa for posting this on the forum.

Billie Joe is on the cover of the August issue of Big Cheese magazine. The article is titled Punk's Not Dead, and also includes Alkaline Trio, Me First and the Gimme Gimme's, Dead Kennedy's, Weezer, and others. Not entirely sure what the article is about, but we'll try to get scans up real soon. [sent in by: Jessica]

You can order the magazine from their site, right here.

I'd like to wish a very Happy 26th Birthday to Courtney.

Hope you have a wonderful day, even though you're probably working. :)

Billie Joe attended an event in Huntington Beach, CA on July 19 to raise awareness and and funds for cystic fibrosis. He joined other stars and some of the world's best surfers at the event, which was put on by the Tony Hawk Foundation. They raised over $400,000 through ticket sells for the nearly 600 people at the event, along with a raffle for a new car. The money went to 'Pipeline to a Cure' (website), which will hold other events in the future. Read the full article.

We're going to be updating the downloads section on GDA over the next few weeks, and we'd like to start off by inviting people to design some new Green Day avatars. To submit items for the page, read the details and post your designs there.

There is a new Lyrics Quiz up for you. People said the last one was too easy, so I made this one an itty bit harder. No songs from American Idiot.

We got an update from Shanty Cheryl of Recess Records about the upcoming Pinhead Gunpowder 7 inch record. You'll remember her as the photographer who took some great photos of the Pinhead Gunpowder shows last February, like the one pictured on the right.

The Pinhead Gunpowder record is coming along. The test pressing is done, and as soon as it's approved by the band, it will go out to the manufacturing plant, and the finished record should be ready and available to buy in the next few weeks!

It will contain studio recordings of the three new songs that were debuted by Pinhead Gunpowder in the live shows in February. (You can hear some of the live versions on YouTube, with not-so-great sound quality, here: 1, 2, 3.).

The first pressing will also include a limited edition of 500 on colored vinyl.

You will be able to order the record from Recess Records when it's released. We'll be sure to let you know as soon as it's out.

Billie Joe was at a fundraising event for Barack Obama on Sunday in Newport Beach, CA, and two lucky fans took a picture with him. Photo by gscottbarrett. This article about the event makes a short mention of Billie Joe being in attendance. Thanks to arohex and heather.

As some of you will remember, Billie Joe was at another Obama fundraiser last year in Piedmont, CA, and this photo was taken of him at the time.

In other news, Rolling Stone Readers Pick the Twenty Best Trios. Green Day came in at number 7. [via GreenDayLand.net]

And here's a nice, in depth, review of Stop Drop and Roll that's worth a read.

The artist who designed the new Green Day shirts we mentioned earlier this month, has posted up another design that he said will be on sale with Hot Topic very soon. This one has the same 1950's style feel to it, with a comic book-esque design showing a guy with a car, then a second frame with the car on fire. Click the image to view a larger image. We'll be sure to post a link as soon as the shirt is available for purchase.

As mentioned in the last post, country singer Glenn Campbell did a cover of Good Riddance for a new album he's putting out. The song was played on BBC Radio 2 in the UK, and you can listen to that preview by clicking the play arrow on the left.

There's a new documentary out about the band Pansy Division, an openly in-your-face gay punk band, with hilarious, raunchy songs, that was made famous when they were chosen by Green Day to open for them on the 1994 Dookie tour. The reactions of Green Day fans were mixed, to say the least, but Pansy Division became known to a much wider audience, and even played Madison Square Garden with Green Day. The image at the right is of a poster from the Dookie tour.

The reviewer writes that the band's experience on the tour "was as much trial-by-fire as a big break: While Green Day stuck by their bill companions, fans heckled and threw bottles at Pansy Division nightly."

Jon Ginoli of Pansy Division said he was grateful for the experience: "When we started our band we thought we'd be playing to people in their 20s and 30s who were gay or gay-friendly. Suddenly we faced thousands of high school kids each night, an amazing opportunity we never expected to have."

Billie Joe appears briefly in the documentary in live performance clips. Screening dates and the trailer are here.

In other news, 72 year old country artist Glen Campbell is recording an album of covers, due out August 19, that will include Green Day's Good Riddance. The press release describes the songs chosen by Campbell for the album as "tracks that have personally moved and inspired him." Green Day really does have fans of all ages!

I did a little more work to the Foxboro Hot Tubs page we first posted a couple months ago. Along with adding links to buy some FHT stuff, we added links for each show that'll take you to the discussions we had on the forum for each of the 10 shows. You'll now find a permanent link for FHT on the left side navigation, right above 'The Network'.

Also if you notice the big red box above, we're asking for donations again. For those of you that can help us by using your debit/credit card or your PayPal account, you can click the 'Donate' button above. If you'd rather send cash or a money order, visit the Donation page for details. GDA does cost us over $300 every month to run, and when we come up short on money from the advertising, it's the help from our visitors that keeps us around. So thanks to those of you who have already donated, and also to those of you considering it.

The Foxboro Hot Tubs' Stop Drop and Roll continues to attract attention and some rave reviews (and other not-so-raving but funny comments).

Josh Hurst has an in-depth, glowing review of the album in a piece about garage rock. He writes:

American Idiot was a masterpiece by just about any standards. This album doesn’t attempt to be so ambitious, but it’s almost as remarkable of an achievement; it’s every bit as enjoyable and memorable as that last album, and, as far as pure rock and roll energy, this is the most fun party Green Day has ever thrown.
Diablo magazine, which is published in the San Francisco Bay Area, has a review of Stop Drop and Roll in their July 2008 issue. Their local angle: "East Bay bar hoppers should jump straight to track three, Ruby Room, an affectionate shout-out to the Oakland dive bar where 'the Pabst Blue Ribbon unravels.'"

Von Pip Music Express has some funny (though not always positive) commentary on the song Mother Mary from some London musicians and other characters. (Scroll down to see them.)

And the Brazilian newspaper Publimetro published a short article (in Portuguese) announcing that Stop Drop and Roll is now available in Brazil.
To all of you in the US, Happy Independence Day!. Hope you all have a great time this weekend doing whatever it is you're going to do to celebrate. I think I'll be going to watch the city's fireworks show tonight.

Tre Cool landed as a Runner Up in Drum Magazine's "Best Punk Drummer", but the title did go to Travis Barker. Full list of nominees here.

Spin Magazine dubbed Green Day "Artists of the Year for Life" (article here), along with Eric Clapton and Melissa Etheridge. Click this link for the full magazine online.

In the latest Rolling Stone magazine (with Barack Obama on the cover) there is an article titled "Artists Lend Voices to Obama Campaign" which they open up with a quote from Billie Joe.
The night Barack Obama clinched the Democratic nomination for president, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong found himself experiencing an unfamiliar emotion: hope. "After his acceptance speech, I have to admit, it took me an hour to get the lump out of my throat," says Armstrong, whose band's American Idiot was the defining protest album of the Bush years. "Obama inspires people, and this country needs inspiration. People are jaded, pissed off and embarrassed."

On page 4 of the same article he says:
"I don't want it to turn into a cult of personality. He's not Magic Man. The great thing would be if he could lead by example and inspire people to get their own shit together."

He said something similar in November of last year when Rolling Stone did an interview then. They asked him if any of the candidates gave him hope for the future:
Barack Obama, but it's a bit early to tell if this is the guy I like. I get sick of the religious-figure thing. People don't question their rulers, these political figures, just as they don't question their ministers and priests. They're not going to question George Bush, especially if he goes around talking about God — "I'm going to let God decide this for me. He's going to give me the answer." The fear of God keeps people silent.

There's a new Green Day shirt available from Hot Topic with a design we haven't seen before. It features a family walking away from a building with an explosion in the background (Dookie reference?), and it says "Welcome to Paradise" on the building sign. The shirt is available from HotTopic.com for $15. Click here for the details. [From GDC]

Adeline Records is giving away an autographed Billie Joe shirt and an Adeline Street poster through their MySpace blog. To enter their contest you have to sign up for text messages through the widget they posted on their blog. All the details are here. [via GSB]
