Just in case some of you have still not read the AP article, here are the scans of the magazine which was released earlier this month. It's a great update on the progress of the new album.

We'll have a new editorial article up in a couple days. This one was written by Cheryl (*withoutadoubt* on the forum), and talks about the double meanings in Billie Joe's writing, and how it appeals to such a large diverse audience. We'll also have some info up once we post it for those of you interested in contributing to the editorial section.

Sorry I hadn't mentioned this earlier, but J'net has updated the Other Crew page. I'm pretty excited to see this section continue to grow a bit, and hope you guys enjoy it as well. She has up some mini bio's and info up for people Green Day has worked with such as Butch Vig, Jerry Fin, Rob Cavallo, Timmy Chunks, Bill Schneider and the musicians who tour with them. J'net continues to update it, so comments and more information are welcome.

Salt Lake Magazine did a review of Stop Drop and Roll!! as one of the top albums of 2008. I can't believe it's already been a year since we first found out about Foxboro. Where the hell has this year flown to?

mmm perfect segue...

I'm working on our 2008 recap right now, which will go up shortly after the New Year. Most likely on the 1st. If it's not up by then, send me hate mail.

Merry Christmas fellow Green Day fans.

Hope you all have a splendid day.

Warner Bro's decided to back out of an agreement with YouTube to allow their artists music/videos on the popular video sharing site. As a result, tons of videos have been removed or disabled because the site no longer has the rights to allow the copyrighted material. Green Day's official channel no longer has any videos, even the Working Class Hero video, which was posted by SaveDarfur has been removed. Read AP Story about the deal

We've also heard that a few users who had used Green Day songs in the background of the videos got notices that their videos were being taken down.

Warner's response was that they were still interested in working with YouTube to come up with a deal, but "We simply cannot accept terms that fail to appropriately and fairly compensate recording artists, songwriters, labels and publishers for the value they provide". And by "fairly compensate" I'm sure they mean give the labels 100% of the income so they can "fairily distribute" 2% of it to the artists.

The record industry isn't failing because a million people go online to watch some official Green Day videos, it's also not failing because someone decided to use Green Day in the background of a tribute video to a friend. None-the-less, Warner insists on being just a little bit more greedy and saying "fuck you" to the fans of these artists. These companies are failing because they don't think of their clients as artists, they think of them as money bags.

Rant over. Sorry. Merry Christmas eve.

Hearing our playlist on the radio last night was pretty amazing. If you didn't get a chance to hear it, stop by the forum for links to download the file.

My thanks to Absolute Radio, Ben Jones (DJ who played the list), and the thousands of you that voted for our list and helped us win. It was great to hear that the radio station was getting such positive feedback during the show as well. Definitely one of our highlights of the year.

Today Absolute Radio will play our playlist from the Rockoff contest; 12 songs that we chose, 6 Green Day songs, 6 non Green Day songs. They've been mentioning the site on the radio all day and we're pretty excited about winning. We purposely chose 12 songs that aren't often heard on the radio, we stayed away from picking the Green Day songs everyone already knows, so we hope to get a few more people to listen to some of the material that hasn't been released as singles.

You can listen to our playlist at 9pm GMT, 4pm EST. If you don't live in the UK and want to listen, you can do so online via the link below.

Thanks to everyone's work in getting out the vote we've won Absolute Radio's Rockoff contest. They will be playing our playlist tomorrow at 9pm GMT, 4pm EST.

We went through 4 rounds of voting against the Kaiser Cheifs, The Strokes, Coldplay and Pink Floyd, and we made through all of them because you guys reached out to everyone possible (though the Coldplay one was pretty close). Thanks again to all of you who participated. Lets get wasted now.

Update: We won!! Green Day won with 50.2% of the vote, only 45 votes. That was the closest contest so far, and we made it with our final push of votes. Thanks again to all of you. We vote again tomorrow for the final round.

Billie Joe has posted up a quick note over at the NRDC MySpace blog asking people to read a message from actor Robert Redford, then act by sending off a letter of opposition to the Bush administrations plans to sell off 160,000 acres of wilderness to oil and gas people.

If only we could get Billie Joe to post a blog telling people to vote for us.

Today we're up against Coldplay in the Absolute Radio Rockoff, we're one of the final 4 sites to have made it to the semi finals! The Coldplay forum is very large, so we need all of you to go here and vote for "Green Day", then pass the link to all your friends online and tell them to vote. We have 23 hours to get as many people to vote for us as we can. Help us win!

I came across this really nice 2004 Green Day Tour shirt at Amazon, and thought I'd pass it along for those of you looking for some new shirts. It's $24, and they ship internationally. I don't remember seeing this one, but this also reminded me that I really need to work on a new merchandise section (added to my to-do list).

Our affiliate, Green Day Online is having a Green Day comic contest. They're looking for people to submit their Green Day comics for a chance to win some free Green Day stuff and gift certificates to Interpunk and SmartPunk.com. Be sure to visit their site for the details.

Hope everyone has a great day. Remember to go here and vote for Green Day right now!!

The new Green Day "Pop Art" shirts we first mentioned back in July are now available on HotTopic.com.

Big Cheese magazine has poll up on their site asking which band will rule in 2009. Clearly with the next album coming next year, we know who that will be. You can vote for Green Day here amongst other 11 bands. [Thanks to bikini_kill for the info]

Just wanted to make a quick note about something we get emails about. A few people have asked (bitched) about why we delete some comments. The two main rules for our comments is that they should be related to whatever topic is covered in the news post and should not include links to your email/myspace and definitely not your phone number (thats just common sense). But one thing we ask that your posts are at least thoughtful and coherent.
- Avoid excessive exclamation marks and using caps lock.
- Make your comments readable, otherwise it's just kind of annoying for the people who do try to read through them. Just type like a normal person, it's really not hard.

I know there are plenty of you out there who read the news and never comment, I'd like to invite more of you to participate in the comments so we can make them a more enjoyable part of the site, so long as you're willing to follow the things mentioned above.

As for Green Day news, nothing special but there is an interview posted over at the Idiot Club with an interview with Jimmy Frick, a guy from Albuquerque, New Mexico (wooot!) who got pulled up on stage to play with the band in 2005. Check it out [Thanks J'net for bringing to my attention]

There's also an article in Newsweek, which talks about American Idiot's place as art and part of our culture during the Bush administration. They call it "protest art" after Bush's reelection. It's also an interesting piece which you can read here. [Thanks Beth]

AP has posted up the second part of it's interview with Billie Joe Armstrong. This one focuses a lot more about music. They ask him how close the band is now, and then talk a lot about their music that inspires him and how he feels about their music making an impact. Another very good interview that all of you should definitely check out.

The band is plastered all over the AltPress homepage, promoting the current magazine which is now out for purchase.

Thanks for all the votes yesterday in the Rock Off contest. We won with 77% of the vote, which moves us up into the semi-finals. Next we're up against Coldplay next Tuesday. We will definitely need the help then, so come back! We're in the final 4 participating in the semi-finals of the 16 finalists chosen. Woo

Today Tre celebrates his 36th birthday. Happy Birthday from GDA!

Adeline Records is having a pretty nice sale now in time for the holidays. Any orders over $25 get 10% off, while orders over $50 get 25%. They have some new hoodies and tshirts. It's worth checking out just because of the name alone, "Never Nude Sale." Get your orders in before December 17th if you want them to be shipped before New Years.

We're restarting our Editorial section today that we never focused enough on. We have a few writers who will be writing articles focused on certain aspects of Green Day every week, and the first one up is called "Songs of Love and Hell" and is really great read. It focuses a lot on the bands decision to use the Foxboro Hot Tubs as a way to step back into the light, and talks a bit about the new material. We're still working on this section and invite your feedback.

The Daily Californian has a very interesting article about the relationship between Green Day and 924 Gilman in Berkeley. Most know that this is the place where Green Day got it's start, which ended up throwing the band out after they signed to a major label. The article talks a bit about the relationship between the two, and how people felt then and now. It's a good read.

Voting has begun for the Absolute Radio Rockoff, where they asked forums to come up with the ultimate playlist. Our playlist is currently up for vote against a Kaiser Cheifs forum, and voting will be held over the next 24 hours. We need to win to move on to the next round.

We need all of you to go here and vote for 'Green Day' right now!!

Help us win! We have till 4:15pm EST tomorrow to vote, but go do it right now.

Update: We won, 80% - 20%. Good job everyone, and thanks for the votes.

Our forum has been selected as a finalist in Absolute Radio's Rockoff contest. We're one of a handful of forums who created our "ultimate" playlist, 6 Green Day songs, 6 non-Green Day songs, and we were chosen as one of the final 16. We go up against another forum tomorrow, December 3rd, you can view the matches here and all the other playlists here. We'll put a link in the news tomorrow so everyone can vote to help us win this contest, because obviously we have the best playlist. The discussion about this on our forum can be found here.

Lots of other sites are talking about the AP interview we posted up last week, here's Spinner's take on it for those of you interested in reading the same thing over again. The second part of that interview is expected to be posted this Thursday. We'll post it up here as soon as it goes up.
