Green Day held a press conference yesterday in Paris, France. For all of you who can read french, check out the article here. For all of us other non french speaking fans, you can view the photos here. They also performed a show yesterday in Paris. François from Green Day Videos posted exclusive photos on the site, here.

Green Day's Official UK Website is giving away a chance to meet Green Day at a UK date of your choice, and it includes travel and hotel accommodations! You can enter this contest by clicking here. This is for UK residents only.

Tomorrow is the big day - the biggest CD of the decade is coming out. You have many options for your CD if you haven't pre-ordered it yet. Target has a special edition with 6 exclusive unreleased live tracks recorded in Japan. Unfortunatly, I don't know what the tracks are. The price for the regular edition CD at Target is $9.98, the exclusive edition is $13.98. See the circular here. Or you can head on over to Best Buy and pick up the special edtion there with the 52 page book (like they had for American Idiot). You can view that circular here. Finally, another option is heading over to your local indie record store and picking up the album and getting a free lithograph. More info here.

Green Day's Myspace now has a clip of Like a Rolling Stone, originally performed by Bob Dylan.

Everyone's still talking about Green Day on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine. I picked it up today, here are the scans.

Also, check out Andres' post below. He must have posted it while I took about 30 minutes to type up this one (hey, I am working too ya know). :)

Green Day and AMI are teaming up to have a few listening parties for tomorrow's album release. View the posters for all 3 events in Grand Rapids, Michigan - Vista, California, and New York City right here. For 3 weeks people can sign up at AMI jukeboxes to win the vinyl version of 21CB, along with a copy of International Superhits. Locations can be viewed on those posters.

Tonight in the UK, 4Music will be airing Live from Abbey Road with Green Day performing at the studio. This was filmed a bit earlier this month, and will air at 9pm. If someone gets the video and uploads it online, email us.

We mentioned last month that Green Day did an interview with Australian Nova100, but someone sent the link to the video, and you guys should definitely check it out.

Here are a couple of reviews for the album:
Kerrang gave 21CB it's highest rating, 5 K's (5=Classic). This scan is the review from Kerrangs newest issue. Thanks to Mike for the scan.

ThrashHits gave it 5 out 6, and here's their review. They wrote "Sounds Like: 18 slices of punk rock hope and determination".

I just got back into town and trying to catch up with everything. Another update will be coming this evening (US time).

Presales for twenty different shows in the US and Canada will go on sale tomorrow at 3pm (local time for each venue) at the Idiot Club. Tickets go on sale to the general public May 15 and May 16, including those for the show at Madison Square Garden.

Green Day's Myspace announced today that it will be putting up samples of the b-side songs every day until Thursday this week. These are the b-sides that are available with the preorder of 21st Century Breakdown on iTunes. The sample today is Another State of Mind, originally performed by Social Distortion.

French magazine Rock One has the band on the cover, and an interview featured inside. I'm not sure where someone can pick this up in the US (aside from Ebay).

Green Day was on NRJ radio in France last night, you can see some pictures here (Thanks to Chemiical). They will be playing an exclusive show for NRJ Radio in Paris tonight. The band will then be coming back to the US for the meet and greet in New York this Friday. Then on Saturday, Green Day will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.

Green Day will be playing a show in Japan on May 28th at Akasaka BLITZ. More info here. Thanks to Komomo.

MTV has posted a new interview and video that's a pretty good read. You can view the article and watch the video here.

Check out some new shirts in the U.K./European side of the Green Day Store. At least, I've never seen some of them before. Who notices that one girl's shirt for $0.00?

SITE UPDATES: I've been doing a couple of updates on the site lately. You might have noticed that all the guy's profiles have been updated and redone. A new band biography was also done today. It still needs some tweaking, and the Warning section is not complete yet, but should be coming shortly. I've also uploaded some more avatars made by some talented people of our forum.

Green Day played in Berlin, Germany yesterday, and will be playing in Cologne, Germany tomorrow night. We got some really great photos from last night in from François (GDV) and Eleonora Gatti, all the photos were uploaded in this album. There's also 3 awesome photos from the official German site in there.

There will be more pre-sales on the Idiot Club next Wednesday for most shows happening between July 3 - August 24th. Visit Green Day.com for the list (scroll down to yesterdays posts).

Many of you commented that tickets for Webster Hall were sold out right when they opened at 4pm. According to Green Day's MySpace, the tickets are supposed to go on sale tomorrow. Not sure if TicketMaster listed the wrong times or something, but check back tomorrow to see when they go up.

If you guys are wondering what the album front/back/inside will look like, visit this thread on the forum. We got some pictures in from Matt K., who got his copy in a week early for some unknown reason.

Green Day is up against Weezer in IGN's Battle of the Bands. Go there and vote for them.

That upcoming show at Webster Hall in NY is now listed at TicketMaster. Tickets go on sale today at 4pm (EST).

If you're from the New York area, or will be there on May 15, you have a shot at meeting the band at a 'Meet and Greet' at the Best Buy on 44th St & 5th. The first 500 people to purchase "21st Century Breakdown" at that location (you have to buy it at that Best Buy location) will get a wristband that allows you to get in line to have your CD signed by Green Day. Exactly one week till we get the new album. View the post below for links to the sites which are streaming the new album today.

So, who bought their tickets today, and for what show?

Tomorrow is the big day, tickets for US/Canada shows start going on sale, most around 9 or 10AM (local time for each venue). The venues will be listed on TicketMaster. Don't worry if you're venue isn't listed yet, it should be added a couple hours (or so) before they go on sale. Full list of shows and sale dates can be found on the tour page.

Update: It will be up on Rhapsody at 2am, and VH1 at 6am

Tomorrow is also the big day for 'the leak'. Vh1 and Rhapsody will be streaming the new album in it's entirety tomorrow. So it's our first chance to listen to the full thing. Rhapsody has a commercial going for the promotion, which you can view here. It's great, keep an eye out for all the different references to Green Day.

Green Day is playing tonight in Berlin. François, from Green Day Videos, sent us a couple photos from the line up, which you can view here. If we get more photos, they'll be posted in that same album.

Franz Ferdinand has been announced as the second supporting act for the upcoming Green Day. They will be on the road with Green Day from August 8th - August 26th.

Green Day will be doing a special show in New York on May 19th at Webster Hall. Tickets go on sale Saturday (not sure where at), but 300 people can win tickets through MySpace. Details are posted on the Green Day MySpace Blog.

The guys performed "Know Your Enemy" on TV Total in Germany earlier today, the video is up on YouTube.

IGN recently interviewed the band and it was just posted online. They also did an interview with UGO (Part 1 & Part 2 (about songwriting), 3rd Part coming soon). A couple of these interviews are up for download on the forum. That section has 7 other interviews the band has done since April.

The pre-sales went on today, we expect them to announce more pre-sales for some other shows really soon. We got tickets for Phoenix and Philadelphia, anyone else get some pre-sales today?

Mike Dirnt celebrates his 37th birthday today. From all the GDA staff, we wish you a very happy birthday, Mike. My thanks to Daysha for the banner.

FMQB.com posted up the second part of their interview with the band. Later today radio stations across the US will begin airing the Green Day special which will debut 7 songs off the album which we mentioned here.

Reuters Canada posted an article to go along with the Billboard Q&A (read that here). Nothing new in there, just a sort of summary of the Q&A.

Hey everyone! For all of you who have been waiting to hear Hearts Collide, the 2nd b-side from 21st Century Breakdown, here's a clip. Thanks to Beth via Lorraine via someone else.

GreenDay.com will be posting up new photos daily on this page (scroll down to the pictures section). Right now they have the promo shots up, and photos from the live shows in Oakland last month.

The Nimrod of the Week has been choosen for the week. Don't forget to send your application in if you're interested in being a nimrod on GDA. Remember, you can enter as many times as you want, but the winner is choosen by me randomly.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to wish Andres a happy 5th anniversary! It was in May of 2004 that Andres joined the GDA team and since has become site administrator and one of the best webmasters I've ever had. So everyone take a moment and wish Andres a happy 5 years and hopefully many many more to come!

The band sat down for a Q&A with Billboard. Again, another great interview that you should all take some time to read. It's nice to see straight up Q&A's so we can read a bit more straight from the guys. They talk about the general story of the new album, Foxboro Hot Tubs, inspirations for the new album, if they plan on continuing the rock operas, and the closest the band has ever been to breaking up. We actually get this question quite a bit, and it always comes up with a new album, "Is this Green Day's last album?". Rest assured, that it is not. Billie Joe replied with, "But quitting? Nah. Nobody leaves this band unless it's in a coffin".

The Wall Street Journal has written that the shows filmed last month at the Uptown Night Club will be carried on MySpace, while a show at the Fox Theater is to be presented as a video-on-demand offering to Comcast cable subscribers.

German show "TV Total" says the band will be performing Know Your Enemy this Wednesday the 6th. We know the band will be playing in Germany on the 7th and 9th, so it's plausible they'll be stopping by. Hopefully someone will record it and send it our way.

Thanks to Sean, Duncan, Tobi, Laurie, Danillo and Shadoxaxis for sending in tips for today's news
Posted Saturday, May 02, 2009 at 8:55am by Andres
Music journalist Jon Pareles has written up a really great article about the new album for the The New York Times. They talked to all 3 band members along with producer Butch Vig, and cover everything from the Foxboro Hot Tubs, thoughts behind the new material, and talk a bit about the personalities of the band. It's really one of the best articles I've read about the new album, and I definitely recommend you all go read it.

From GreenDay.com: "This Monday the 4th, radio stations around the US and Canada will begin to broadcast a Green Day radio special, featuring 7 songs from the new album, along with an interview with the band." No lists of stations, only suggestion was to check with your local radio station and see if they'd be airing it. They will be playing the following songs:

Know Your Enemy
21 Guns
21st Century Breakdown
Before The Lobotomy
East Jesus Nowhere
Restless Heart Syndrome
American Eulogy

Just a reminder to read this post from last night.

Rhapsody, along with VH1, will be streaming the new album May 8th. To celebrate the countdown to the album release, Rhapsody is doing a daily contest on Twitter, giving away things like mp3 players, TiVO's, and a bunch of other cool stuff. Each day at 10pm PST a new contest will start and last for 3 hours. To enter, you just need to reply to them via Twitter. Today, they're asking for haiku's explaining what makes Dookie great. All the details for the contest can be found on their blog, and follow @Rhapsody on Twitter for the questions.

The IFC (Independent Film Channel) is using "21st Century Breakdown" as part of their documentary series "The Media Project", which debuts May 3rd on IFC (watch the trailer). The image on the right is a wall painted with the lyrics from the song and a small IFC logo, the picture was posted by John Roecker (on his facebook) taken in LA. Here's a quote from Billie Joe about lending the song to the IFC
21st Century Breakdown is a snapshot of the era in which we live as we question and try to make sense of the selfish manipulation going on around us, whether it be the government, religion, media or frankly any form of authority,” said Billie Joe Armstrong. “We felt it was the perfect song to give IFC for this incredible project.

Hot Topic is having a contest to win a trip for 2 to see Green Day in Los Angeles in August. Winner will get 2 tickets to the show, round trip airfare, hotel accommodations, and a meet and greet with the band. If you don't have a HT account, you'll need to create one here first.

In it's second week on the charts, "Know Your Enemy" officially took the #1 spot on Billboards Hot Modern Rock charts, moving up from #8. Yeah!!

Spin.com reviewed 21st Century Breakdown and gave it a 3 out 5 stars. They were a little more harsh than Rolling Stone, saying the new stuff didn't quite reach the level of American Idiot material, and the music seem stretched or contrived. I'm thinking the author, Steve Kandell, is maybe just having a fit with music, Dylan only gets 3 stars as well. Not bad company to be in I guess.

MAGNET magazine is asking what the most anticipated album of 2009 is. Visit this page and vote for "21st Century Breakdown".

Rolling Stone magazine has given 21st Century Breakdown 4.5 out of 5 stars. Pretty damn good! They gave American Idiot 3.5 out of 5, and we know how that turned out. Full review from RS can be found right here.

Idiot Club members, Friday you will have exactly 59 minutes to get ticket pre-sales for the UK dates. The pre-sale will start at 9am GMT on May 1st, and end at 9:59am. Visit idiotclub.com for the links at that time. Ticket sales start tomorrow (April 30th) for the 3 Italy shows. Which you will find here.

"Know Your Enemy" opened up at #8 on Hot Modern Rock Chart and #40 on the Hot 100, lets hope it increases next week. Have to admit, doesn't feel like there was a lot of promoting the single prior to it's release, which I actually kind of enjoy. Thanks to Michael for the links

Green Day did an interview with MuchMusic, which aired two nights ago. The link above is only a short clip, but watch till Mike starts talking about their 'alternative lifestyles'. I enjoyed it. If anyone has the full interview, please email us.

Icon vs. Icon is giving away a Mike Dirnt signature bass and a special edition 21st Century Breakdown album. Details there. Thanks to niki for sending in the news

German radio station 1Live is giving away tickets April 27th - April 30th for a show in Cologne, Germany May 9th. The band has not confirmed any shows, but if you're in Germany and can listen to 1Live for the details to win tickets, it might be worth the shot if this ends up happening. Till then we wait for the official confirmation. Thanks to Hannes for the link

Update: GreenDay.de says two shows for Germany, one in Berlin on May 7th, one in Cologne on May 9th. Venues and a chance to win tickets will be on that site sometime this week. Translated version

We've gotten word about a few of the venues Green Day will be playing at for the US/Canada tour. Only 3 right now, which are listed on the tour page, we expect the rest to be announced around the first week of May.

TimesOnline wrote up a pretty amazing article about the new album titled "Green Day return bigger and better", and sat down with the band to talk about the new album. They talk a bit about the process and feelings that were behind the album, and the general storyline and references. It's one of the best reads so far about the album. Thanks to J'net for posting it on the forum.

Diablo Magazine writes that the MuST Celebrity Golf Tournament that Tre hosted (attended by Mike and Butch Vig) raised $40,000 for the charity, which helps with music programs in the Oakland schools.

We've created a dedicated place on the forum for people to talk about the shows they're attending for the tour. Read this thread for the details, and remember that all tour dates are posted here. The tour page will be updated with new details as we get them.

VH1 is planning to leak 21st Century Breakdown on their website one week early. So you will have the opportunity to listen to the entire new album from May 8-15, before the album goes on sale. I know a lot of fans are kind of on the edge about this, so it's up to you if you want to wait an extra week to actually get the physical CD in hand. It's only 7 days, I mean, we waited 5 years right? Anyway, for those who are interested, follow the VH1 Blog, here to see what new Green Day stuff they have to offer each day.

Update: Just to clarify, VH1 is doing this as a promotion with both Green Day and their record label. VH1 calls it "the leak", but have the bands permission. Whether you want to hear it a week early or not is your decision.

If you join Green Day's mobile list, you can win a free copy of the new album! On May 15th, 10 people will be pulled at random from Green Day’s mobile list to win a limited special edition copy of “21st Century Breakdown,” which includes three 10” vinyls with each act from the album, plus a 60 page book of special artwork. If you haven’t already signed up to the list, click here. This is for US residents only.

Here's Green Day's first music video from 21st Century Breakdown, "Know Your Enemy", directed by Matthew Cullen.

Click here to play on MTV.com

And the video's simplicity carries over to the album. After all, as the first single of a huge album, this thing could've been a special-effects enhanced, green-screen infused trainwreck. But instead, it's powerful and straightforward: Here's Green Day. They rock. Watch them do so. When the band is this good and the music so fist-pumpingly raucous, there's really nothing else you need to say.

In anticipation of tomorrow's Know Your Enemy video premiere, MTV has compiled a list of Green Day's Greatest Video Moments, which you can read here. Know Your Enemy's video will premiere on 250 online and on air MTV outlets, as well as On Demand. The video will be available at 12:00AM EST, in all countries. GDA will provide the direct link when the video comes up.

Also at MTV you can go behind the set for an exclusive look at the Know Your Enemy video making. Go behind the scenes here. And apparently they like teasing us, because the article mentions that there will be a 30 second preview of the video posted today.

MTV UK is all dressed up in Green Day designs in anticipation of the video premiere.

Leave it to the UK's The Sun magazine to take a joke and make it sound like something serious. Read about Billie Joe's "boogie woogie flu" here.

UPDATE AT 6:12PM EST: As I mentioned earlier in today's post, MTV has a 30 second teaser clip of the Know Your Enemy video. Get a sneak peek here.

The official online store has been updated with a ton of new, really awesome shirts (all around $25), but they are not available for purchase yet. You can also pre-order the album there and get one of the new shirts, this one is probably my favorite. Not sure when they’ll actually go on sale, but at least you can look at them to know how much money to start saving up.

Many of you have been wondering about those 4 bonus iTunes tracks, while the names have still not been released, some of you were wondering if they’d be available anywhere else (such as the Special Edition many pre-ordered from GD.com), but for right now, those songs are iTunes exclusive. If you've already pre-ordered the album from somewhere else, you might want to hold off on ordering another till we get the names of them, so you can at least know if those are the b-sides (Lights Out/Hearts Collide) or new songs. I'm thinking I'll probably pre-order from iTunes since I didn't pre-order anywhere else, then I'll just go to the store the day of to have a physical CD.

MuchMusic posted up a short article about an interview with the band.
"It was hard man, I went nuts…it was good nuts," revealed frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. "You know, I think it was just second guessing and triple guessing, and being our own worst critics."

"We're our own worst critics in a way but it makes sure the job gets done right," Tre Cool added. "No wine is served before its time" "It was kind of this process that was unfolding over six months," said Billie Joe. "I'm slightly biased but we're really happy with the outcome."
A full interview will air on MuchNews Weekly on Monday April 27th. Thanks to Melody for the news

Also, we expect the venue list for the tour to be released next week. Don’t forget that we’re going to be regularly updating the tour page with as many details as we can for each show. And next week, after the venues are announced, we’ll be making a dedicated place on our forum for each show, so that those people planning on attending can talk with other fans who will be attending. Links will be posted here once that’s up.

Now, I’d like some feedback from you guys about how often we post news. We try not to post more than once per day, to keep things readable and not overwhelming. But, how would you guys feel if we started making 2-3 posts a day when we get new information? To help keep things easy to navigate, we’ve added the “Headlines” button at the top of the page to show all the recent news entries, and when viewing an entry, the “Newer – Older” links below each post will help navigate through them.

As reported, Green Day have once again graced the pages of NME Magazine. Someone has scanned the pages and put them up on the Idiot Club at GreenDay.com. Enjoy.

Speaking of the Uptown show, I've uploaded some photos of the show to the Picture Vault. If anyone has some that we don't have, please feel free to send them over.

According to the Futon Critic Green Day will be making their third appearance on the legendary show, Saturday Night Live, on May 16.

As you might recall, Mike and Tre were at the 3rd Annual MuSt Tournament yesterday. Tre was the gracious host, and the event was in Oakland Hills, CA. Unfortunatly, not many pictures have surfaced yet, including of our host! But I do have a few of Mike I uploaded here. If anyone has any more, let me know.

Slow news day today compared to yesterday, maybe more will be out later today. Live Daily has an article about the tour, here. Not much, but enjoy!

Just heard from a few commenters that Green Day are in the new issue of NME Magazine with a review of the Uptown show in Oakland, CA. NME is a UK magazine, but here in the USA you can purchase it at Barnes and Noble Bookstore. If anyone has the scans to share, please e-mail me!

The b-side for "Know Your Enemy" was released a couple days ago on CD in Germany. The song sounds incredible, very old school Green Day vibe to it. The song will be available for download online soon, and will hopefully be on the single CD when it gets released in the US. Till then, feel free to listen to the song here:

You can find the lyrics posted here (scroll down to b-sides).

Green Day's first album, 1039/Smooth turns 19 today. The album was released April 19, 1990 on Lookout! Records.

The Guardian has a really great review of 21st Century Breakdown.
It also sounds phenomenal. New producer Butch Vig has both focused Green Day's stadium-sized punk rock and embellished it with flamboyance and muscle cribbed from either side of the 60s pop and rock divide. Last of the American Girls rejoices in Beach Boys harmonies, while Restless Heart Syndrome, a withering assessment of the prevalence of prescription medication, waxes and wanes like vintage Led Zeppelin.
