The Tennessean posted a really good article and interview with Tre Cool. He talks about the tour, how the band wants to make these shows memorable, and how the music has grown over the years. The author, Dave Paulson, does a good job of summing of Green Day's career so far. Read the full article

A lot of bands just stick to their formula,” Cool says. “Like, ‘That worked last time when we had that radio hit. Let’s do something similar.’ I think there’s so much of that out there. And then there are the bands where their early stuff is the best, and then they start sucking more and more. I hate when that happens. I hate seeing great artists get lazy and decline. I think it’s been a growth process (for us). The music has matured, but at the same time, we are the same goofy little bastards that we’ve always been.

2009 VMA Performer: Green DayRolling Stone and MTV confirmed that Green Day will be performing at the 2009 VMA's on September 13th. On RollingStone.com, Billie Joe is quoted saying "We are excited to be performing at the Video Music Awards, you never know what’s going to happen, and it’s always a memorable experience for us".

We've gathered some of Green Day's performances on the VMA's, from 1994 (playing Armatage Shanks) through earlier this year when they performed "Know Your Enemy" at the Japan VMA's.

Last night Green Day played at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC.

The set list was pretty normal with not many rare songs. At the end of the show Billie played Macy's Day Parade acoustic and then played Christie Road acoustic. Hopefully someone recorded Christie Road and puts it on YouTube because I can only guess how amazing that must sound. Update: Here's Christie Road on YouTube, thanks xGeneralxS for the link.

If you would like to view the full set list just look at the 5th comment in the comments.

GigWise.com has a handful of great photos from the show. We have a few pictures from last night in this album of our Picture Vault. If you have pictures from this show or any other show on this tour that we do not have please send them to gdapicvault@gmail.com.

Over on YouTube.com a few videos have been uploaded from last nights show. Click here to view the videos.

There has been no reviews of the show yet but we will update this post as soon as the reviews start coming in. Update: Here's a review from the Washington Post

Last night Green Day played their second show at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. If you thought that the first show on the 27th was a rocking show, just wait till you look at this!

This would have to be the best set list on the tour so far with a total 35 songs. Here are a few highlights of the set list from last night. The show starts off as normal, but then after Know Your Enemy when they normally go into East Jesus Nowhere, they changed to go into a song that has not yet been played yet all tour, Murder City, but that's just the beginning!

Green Day went on to play many other rare songs such as A Quick One While He's Away (The Who Cover), Hitchin a Ride, Stop, Drop, and Roll, Eye of the Tiger, FOD, When I Come Around, Going to Pasalacqua, Stuart And The Ave, Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?, Christie Road, and Tell Me When It's Time To Say I Love You. Tell Me When It's Time To Say I Love You is a unreleased song from American Idiot. You can view a video of it by clicking here. To see the rest of the set list just look at the first comment in the comments.

A bunch of killer photos have been added to this album in our Picture Vault from last nights show.

Here are a few YouTube.com channels with good videos from last nights show for you guys to watch: xGeneralxS and Elisa184O.

So far we only have one review of the show for you to read from NYMag.com. Click here to read the review.

Do you have photos that you would like to submit to the GDA picture vault from this show or another show on the tour? If you do please send them to gdapicvault@gmail.com with the name of the show they belong with.

GD+NRDC (Green Day's collaboration with the National Resource Defense Council) has a booth and some volunteers walking around at the New York shows (last night in Madison Square Garden, and again tonight at Gate 65).

They posted a couple pictures on their MySpace blog. They're signing up people for support of the NRDC causes, everything from protecting wildlife to helping fix global warming. They will be at Green Day shows tonight in New York, as well as shows in Washington DC, San Jose, and LA. Go by and say hi to the group if you see them.

Oh yeah, I'm back. I took a nice little break for just over a week, went to visit my parents, enjoyed the cool weather of northern New Mexico and did some other stuff that I'm sure none of you care about at all. It was enjoyable though. I will be doing a lot of work on the site, so expect some new contests and other stuff coming your way real soon.

Last night Green Day rocked Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The Green Day boys pulled out some songs that they had not yet played all tour including When I Come Around, and Castaway. Disappearing Boy was played (as it was during the Albany, NY show) and was dedicated to Billie's son Joey. During Disappearing Boy they also played a few seconds of other songs that included Sweet Home Alabama (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Thank You (Led Zeppelin), Sweet Child O' Mine (Guns N' Roses), Take Me Out to the Ball Game, 99 Bottles of Beer, and Iron Man. Billie messed up the words of Castaway they only played about 30 seconds of it. To view the full set list look at the first comment in the comments.

We have a few pictures in this album of our Picture Vault and many more will be added later. If you have pictures that we do not have from this so or any show on the tour please send them to gdapicvault@gmail.com so we can have a few good pictures of every show on the tour.

A lot of videos have been posted up so far on YouTube.com from last night. Here are a few good channels with videos: krazieekimx0x, brianvicet, MATTMAN92ish, and VFHvideo.

Also we have two reviews for you so far from the show. One from NYDailyNews and another one from News Day.

Mike Dirnt was recently interviewed by music website AllGigs.co.uk. They talked about 21st Century Breakdown's themes and influences along with other questions about the production of the album.
AllGigs: Why did you recruit Butch Vig to produce the album?
Mike Dirnt: He had always been on our radar in terms of who we would like to work with some day. And then, we got the chance to meet him, and once we did, we all spontaneously agreed that he was the man for the job.
AllGigs: Did you feel you were stagnating with Rob Cavallo on production?
Mike Dirnt: We just wanted something a little different, that's all. We've always been very involved in the production of our records anyway, so we wanted someone who was going to challenge us in a different way...

You can read the full interview by clicking here.

There has also been a lot of talk about the American Idiot Musical in the past few days. MTV.com just published this article about how the American Idiot Movie might still be in the works. Also recently the director of the American Idiot Musical, Michael Mayer did a short interview with WAMC. You can listen to the interview online by clicking here.

Tonight Green Day will be playing at Madison Square Garden in New York City. I will be there taking pictures throughout the show and will post them in the Picture Vault tomorrow. If you see a kid in a Foxboro Hot Tubs shirt is is most likely me.

Last night Green Day played at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York.

The set list last night didn't have as many old songs a few of the previous shows, but Green Day still did bash out one old song, Disappearing Boy. In the encore Billie played Last Night on Earth, again in acoustic. You can see a video of it by clicking here.

Not many pictures are in from last night yet but we do have a few in this album of our Picture Vault. If you do have pictures from last night that we do not have please send them to: gdapicvault@gmail.com.

Last night Green Day played a show in Hartford, CT at the XL Center. Yet again another rocking show. The past few shows Green Day has been throwing in some old songs into the set list. If you're a fan of the older material, last nights set list will blow you away!

After Green Day finished playing Welcome to Paradise they broke into some songs we haven't heard them play in years: Dominated Love Slave, Only of You, Christie Road, and F.O.D. They also played Last Night on Earth before Good Riddance, which had not yet appeared this tour. The see the full set list look at the first comment for this post.

Pictures from last nights show have started to roll in to us and you can view all of them in this album of the Picture Vault.

A few videos have started popping up on YouTube.com from last nights show. Here are a few channels with videos: MyRoflCopt3r and renshidave.

MassLive.com has a review of the show last night up on their website. They can not find a bad thing to say about Green Day!

Last night Green Day played in Pittsburgh, PA at the Mellon Arena. Green Day's shows are getting better every tour stop that they make. For example last night Green Day played many older songs such as 2000 Light Years Away, JAR, At the Library, and Going to Pasalacqua.

When Billie came out to play the last song Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) he surprised the crowd with a song that had only been played once before at the sound check of the Philadelphia show! This song was Drama Queen. You can watch a video on YouTube.com of the song by clicking here. For the full set list go into the comments and look at the first comment.

I have just added a bunch of really nice pictures from last nights show into this album of our Picture Vault.

There has been a lot of really nice videos on YouTube.com from last nights show. Here are a few channels with good videos: Pittguy2012, mymovesarewhite, jazmenmetz13, and haggertus.

As you may know the GDA staff (Andres, Courtney, J'net, and I) attended the Green Day show at the Wachovia Spectrum. I can honestly say that it was the best night of my life. The set list was amazing which included songs such as 2,000 Light Years Away, Give Me Novacaine, and The Words I Might Have Ate.

You can find some pictures from last nights show in the Picture Vault by clicking here. You can also see some on NelsonMuntzPhoto's Flickr.

There are some really amazing videos on YouTube.com from last nights show including a few in HD. UtubeNo1Fan, Frizerwink, and CadoPerTu731

Here is a a great review for you to view from Philly.com.

I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to go to the sound check for the show where the band warmed up American Eulogy, King For a Day, and 21st Century Breakdown. Then Billie just came out with an accoustic and played two unreleased songs Drama Queen and Olivia. This was a truly amazing experience. Also around the same time I got the chance to talk to a lot of people who visit GDA and it felt really special when people actually knew who I was! So thank you so much for that. I will be writing a full review of the show and will post a link to it here later.

Also, on a side note Nimrod of The Week will be taking a break this week and will return back to normal next week.

EDIT by Courtney: At the show, I was right against the barrier in the middle of the catwalk (black shirt with a red AI heart). Andres, J'net, and Jimmy were over on the right side against the barrier. Andres, J'net, and I were lucky enough to get into the afterparty. Tre Cool was there! He talked to all of us, and stole Andres' pin off his shirt and put it on his shirt. He then wanted to take a picture with me! You can read a little bit from me on my Myspace blog.

Green Day played last night in Boston, MA to a sold out show of just over 13,000 fans at the TD Garden arena.

Setlist was similar, only difference was that Billie played an acoustic version of Macy's Day Parade right before the last song.

You can find some videos from the show on cmrnmrphy's YouTube account. He currently has about 18 clips or full videos from the show.

Here's a review from the Boston Globe
The Green Day frontman was a tireless, one-man spirit machine. Over the course of a long, but rarely flagging, two-hours-and-10-minute show by the acclaimed pop punk trio, Armstrong successfully urged the sold-out crowd of 13,380 to jump, sing, wave, dance, and, much to security's chagrin, flood the part of the floor that was general admission.

Here's one picture and another picture from last night (more should be expected on that Flickr page later on). Since the show ended only a few hours ago, not too much else to post. If you have pictures or find more videos, feel free to post them in the comments.

Think that when you go and see Green Day you just expect to see the band play? Well think again! On the 21st Century Breakdown tour Green Day has gotten a hold of artist Logan Hicks to find a group of artists to create artwork around each song on 21st Century Breakdown along with portraits of the Green Day trio. Each piece of artwork gives the artist's interpretation of the song.

“We are really excited to be touring with this incredible show,” says Armstrong. “Seeing the pieces that our new album has inspired is very exciting. Many of the artists Logan has chosen show their work on the street, and we feel a strong connection to that type of creative expression. We think the fans coming out to see us on the road will love it.”

You can view all of the artwork and read the press release over on OneBigFreakShow.com by clicking here. News Via: NothingWrongWithMe.com.

Also the Idiot Club has some nice exclusive backstage photos from the tour in their photo gallery.

Last night Green Day played in Montreal, QUE. If you wanted Green Day to play some of their older songs from 1039 / Smoothed Out Slappy Hours or Kerplunk your wish has been granted. Added to the set list is: Words I Might Have Ate, 2,000 Light Years Away, and J.A.R.. If you would like to see a complete set list I have posted it in the first comment in the comments.

We have some really great pictures from last nights show over in our Picture Vault. Please if you have any pictures from last nights show that we do not have send them to gdapicvault@gmail.com so we can place them in the Picture Vault.

Verizon Insider was able to snag five pairs of tickets the upcoming Green Day concerts. There are seven different city's you can enter to win in. For a full list of rules and how to enter, head on over to VerizonInsider.com by clicking here. Thanks to amy_runs for this news.

Green Day's album American Idiot was listed first on SloshSpot.com's top 14 Music Flops and Comebacks, obviously as a Comeback.

In need of a serious comeback Green Day unleashed a rock opera on an unsuspecting public that was just the right combination of punk, politics, and anger at the state of America. American Idiot hit in a big way, propelling Green Day back into the spotlight, and as the voice of those ready for political and cultural change in the George W. Bush era.

You can view a full list of the top 14 Music Flops and Combacks by clicking here.

Tonight Green Day is playing in Montreal at the Bell Centre. Have fun to all who are going and we will have recap post of the show in the morning.

Green Day played last night in Hamilton, Ontario Canada. Photographer Michael Hurcomb took some really great pictures last night, which you view on Flickr.

Here are some videos from the show: 21st Century Breakdown & Know Your Enemy, Ending of East Jesus Nowhere (Billie pulls a kid on stage), Minority, Hitchin a Ride, Good Riddance
[Thanks to Green_Day_25 for the links]

Music journalist Alan Cross was at the show last night, and was updating Twitter for much of the show. He also posted some really good behind-the-scene pictures. Such as this pyrotechnic list (what fireworks go off during each song), Billie Joe's passport on the managers desk, the dinner menu for the backstage area, show poster for Copps Coliseum, the shows schedule (I like the last thing, "Curfew - None"). He also posted this picture of the band backstage, and he mentioned "Green Day's stage set. Takes 12 trucks to move from gig to gig."

Here are couple reviews from the show:
"Green Day's Armstrong steals the hearts of the crowd" | The Tornoto Star
"Green Day rocks Copps" - The Toronto Sun

Green Day played last night in Detroit, Michigan. The Detriot News published their recap with plenty of compliments aimed at the performance. "Throughout the show, Armstrong [...] was a marvel to behold. Never standing in one spot for more than a few seconds and rarely pausing for a breath, he was the picture of boundless energy, the essence of unbridled enthusiasm."

Only video we've found so far is Boulevard of Broken Dreams. I'm sure more will be posted in the coming hours. Feel free to add links in the comments. I've gathered up a group of links to photos I've found on Twitter so far, view them here.

Setlist was mostly the same, but tonight Billie Joe played an acoustic version of Macy's Day Parade. Full setlist posted in the comments.

We'll update this post later this morning if more pictures/videos are made available.

The Chicago Tribune published their own review of Green Day's show a couple nights ago, this one markedly better than the one I ranted a bit on in yesterdays post.

Green Day played last night in Chicago, IL. From the reactions on Twitter, people seemed very content with the show. Here are a few of the photos we've got so far.

Unfortunately, the Chicago Sun-Times didn't seem to agree on how they felt about last nights show. In his published review, pop critic JIM DeROGATIS said
...no matter how much a band is trying to remain true to its roots, something about playing an arena brings out the arena-rock cliches.

When Green Day performed at the United Center Monday, those came in the form of cheesy pyrotechnics and snippets of corny covers

Ouch. Probably the harshest review from a large publication we've heard so far. One of the few negative, but definitely the harshest.

There are plenty of thoughts going through my head how I'd like to reply to Mr. DeRogatis, mainly the idea that he calls Green Day cliched and wrote a piece late last year about how great Fall Out Boy was because they seemed grateful to be on stage. I'm sorry, FOB doesn't have anywhere near the stage presence as Green Day (no disrespect to FOB intended, but lets be honest here. I'm willing to bet the guys in FOB would agree). Anyone who's seen Green Day in concert before knows that they've kept a similar format, similar setlist, similar antics (heyyyy-ohhhh's) for the past 10 years or so. Would those of us who have had the chance to see them before like to see them mix it up? Absolutely. But the band creates their setlists for people to go and rock out to. As much as we might like to see it, a lot fewer people are gonna rock out to Who Wrote Holden Caulfield than to Basket Case.

That said, calling the show cliched is just disingenuous. The far majority of people going to these shows are blown away at the bands stage presence. They do what few rock bands out there can do, they get the audience involved in the experience. They've been doing this for 20 years, and Mr. DeRogatis fails to realize the difference between show business and showmanship. These guys go up on stage and do what they do best, perform. Unlike many artists out there, these guys don't go on tour to sell albums. They write albums to go on tour. They have a passion for playing live, and I'm willing to bet that the majority of people who leave a Green Day show can feel that. Green Day doesn't need to go on stage and act grateful to be there, they show their gratitude by putting on a show that leaves the audience feeling lucky to have been there.

My only explanation for the apparent lapse of rational judgment by Mr. DeRogatis, is that he's comparing Fall Out Boy to the Smashing Pumpkins, and Green Day to Neil Diamond. With those odds, I can't say it's surprising to have some high expectations. Expectations that I think Green Day has passed, but maybe it just takes some people longer to acknowledge it.

The new Pinhead Gunpowder CD, "Kick Over the Traces" is out now on Recess Records for $10. This is a compilation of their 'greatest hits' which was announced earlier in the year. Recess Records also updated their blog with some pictures of the very sexy new 7" white vinyl for the last EP "Westside Highway", which is available now for only $3.

There is a lot of new Green Day merchandise at each of the shows. We're trying to compile a list with photos of the new stuff so everyone can see what's being sold. If you bought a t-shirt/hoodie/or any other official merchandise from the 21st Century Breakdown tour, send us an email to greendayauth@gmail.com with a photo of the merch and the price you paid. Thanks!!

Green Day played last night in Minneapolis, MN. Those in attendance were lucky enough to hear "Minnesota Girl", a song Billie Joe wrote for Adrienne (she's from Minnesota). I'd really love to hear a better quality version of this song, as it was originally posted as a GreenDay.com audio message years ago.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune posted this article about lasts night show.

My thanks to Mike for sending along this video from tonight. He also sent some pictures, which have been uploaded here. Any other photos from the night will be added there later.

Here's the original audio version posted a few years ago:

We heard that Jason Freese dressed up as Michael Jackson during "King For A Day", this is the only photo we've got of this so far.

If anyone has better pictures, or better quality video of "Minnesota Girl", please email us, greendayauth@gmail.com.

The band also fooled around playing the intro to songs like Crazy Train, Iron Man and Master of Puppets. Setlist posted right here.

The last program is a brand new, hour long show that will include an interview with the band. Not many other details have been released. Here's a commercial for the show.

As for me, I'm adding pictures to the Picture Vault daily, and so is the rest of the Picture Vault team. I've made one change though, I ask that if you have pictures to send them to a new e-mail address, reject86@gmail.com. It's easier for me to download massive amounts of photos from that client. Thanks to everyone who has mailed us pictures so far. :)

Hey everyone! Being a tattoo lover, I'm pretty excited to let you know that Green Day is on the cover of the August 2009 issue of Inked Magazine! All three of the guys talk about their tattoos, which one they are getting next, and the new album. You can actually read the article here. This magazine is available in the USA, at fine bookstores such as Barnes & Noble.

To mark the release of 21st Century Breakdown, Green Day have created a limited edition green iPod Nano, complete with commemorative case. You can win one at Gigwise...but only if you answer the extremely hard question correct (I'm being sarcastic....you'll see if you enter). You can also win one from NME, and their question is even harder......yeah....right.

Our friends over at GreenDay.com have uploaded some awesome photos from Green Day's concert in Saskatoon, SAS. Take a look here. If you would like to contribute your pictures to GDA's Picture Vault, you can send your photos to me (be sure to let me know how I should credit you). You can also post them on the forum, under Green Day Pictures > 21st Century Breakdown Tour Photos > Choose Your Show. I'm looking forward to seeing all the great photos you guys are taking!

Green Day is in the newest edition of Kerrang! Magazine. Included is a three page article plus a poster of Billie Joe. We have the scans of the article to show you thanks to die_in_tradegy.

While on the topic of Kerrang Green Day has been nominated twice for the 2009 Kerrang Awards for Best Album and Best International Band. Click here to vote!

Also MTV News posted a video interview of Green Day talking about why they picked the songs that they did for Rock Band. In the written interview it really goes into detail on why Rock Band caught Billie Joe's attention:
... I know my kids played it and they know songs I never thought they would ever [hear]. I'd be like, 'Wow, where did you hear that?' 'Oh, "Rock Band."

Last night Green Day had their fourth date of the 21st Century Breakdown tour in Saskatoon, Canada. One small change has been made to the set list, Geek Stink Breath has been taken out. I really hope that Geek Stink Breath will make it back on the set list for when I go to see them because I would love to hear that song live! Now lets look at some reviews and pictures...

Pictures from last nights show have been placed into this album of the Picture Vault. If you have a picture that you look from the show to be added to the vault please send them to courtneygda@hotmail.com.

Here is a review from The Star Phoenix. They have nothing bad to say about Green Day but they did have some negative comments on the opening band The Bravery.

Tonight Green Day will be taking a one day break from touring before playing their last Canada date for a week at the 9th at the MTS Centre.

After a one day break Green Day was back on the road last night playing in Edmonton, AB. From what we have been hearing the set list is still the same as the nights before so it looks like the set list we have been seeing will be staying mostly the same for this leg of the tour.

We are now in the process of placing photos last night into our Picture Vault. All the pictures from last night will be placed in this album.

Videos from the show have now started surfacing on YouTube.com. Here are a few users with some good videos: emelnyk, teamchinada, and ajeforange

A few sites have reviews up from last night. Still all good and nothing really negative about the shows! Edmonton Sun and Edmonton Journal.

Today is the big day for all RockBand fans! Starting today you can download Green Day tracks from 21st Century Breakdown for RockBand. The tracks include Know Your Enemy, East Jesus Nowhere, and 21 Guns. You can view the full press release over on the RockBand website by clicking here.

Also, just as a reminder that today is the LAST day to order your GDA wristbands that say "Green Day Community" on them. Click here to order yours now!

If you want to attend the Madison Square Garden show in NYC, the Idiot Club still has good seats available, just visit the Idiot Club for details. GreenDay.com posted up some of their own photos from the Seattle and Vancouver shows, which you can view here.

Courtney has continued adding more photos of the live shows, along with a ton of older photos in the Pic Vault. You can view all the recent uploads by clicking here. I freaking love this picture of Billie Joe crowd surfing.

Rolling Stone Magazine reviewed the Seattle show, and had more good things to say about Green Day's performance
the band’s obvious need to connect emotionally with their audience means they have an uncanny ability to make even a packed arena have the intimacy of a club gig

Tonight the band continues the tour in Edmonton, Canada. Jimmy will be posting about the show tomorrow morning.

Just a reminder that today and tomorrow are the last days to order the GDA Wristbands. So if you want one (or two or three), you need to order them soon. Thanks to everyone who already has!

Tre is on the cover of Modern Drummer. We don't have scans yet, but here's the cover. The article comes out tomorrow, July 7th.

Tre is also on the cover of Drummer Magazine. Here are the scans (thanks to Harriet on the forum). The words are little small, but this is the best quality we have right now.

As Andres said in his post last night, I am Jimmy and will be helping Andres out with news updates and such. To start off I would like to thank everyone who gave me a nice warm welcome in the comments. I am extremely excited and glad to be helping out here at GDA now, and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Andres and Courtney for giving me the chance to work here! OK so let’s get down to business now....

Last night Green Day came in with a bang in Vancouver, British Columbia. According to those who were at the show it was a total blast. The set list last night was extremely similar to the night before so we can expect to see those songs being played throughout the tour.

Now that the show is over photos should be coming in very shortly and we will be placing them into this album over in the Picture Vault.

Over on YouTube a lot of videos from last night have been popping up. One member in particular, backpackdave09 has a ton of videos up from last night for your viewing pleasure!

A few sites have posted up reviews of last nights show and Green Day gave them noting to really complain about! TheGlobalMail.com, VancouverSun.com and GutterSnipeNews.com.

Also, now you can win a copy of Bullet in a Bible on Blu-Ray thanks to Kerrang.com. To enter all you have to do is answer a question correct and then you are entered for a chance to win. For all the information head on over to this page.

Canada.com has a great article about 21st Century Breakdown, and an interview with Mike Dirnt. It's sort of a "how did this album form" article, with some mention of the whole Wal-Mart issue, the process of making the album, and the Foxboro Hot Tubs. Best line comes from Mike talking about how pissed off he was to be driving around a minivan after his old VW truck broke down: "But if you see someone rolling down the street listening to Circle Jerks or Husker Du really loud in a minivan, it's probably me."

Last night, my friend Greg was pulled on stage by Billie Joe and he planted a nice long kiss on him (here's a nice picture), then went on to sing Longview. I'm so freaking excited for him, especially cause all the reviews I keep reading mention the man-love, and because Greg is a huge Green Day fan (GDA reader as well) and one of the nicest guys I've ever met.
Here's a video. Go Greg!

The Seattle Weekly also posted a review of last nights show, where they have more nice things to say about the band and their performance. "Green Day is clearly a band intent on giving people their money's worth and thoroughly enjoying themselves in the process, which are ultimately the most important ingredients for a satisfying arena rock show".

I'm really excited to announce that we've added Jimmy Douglas to the team as a news editor for GDA. Some of you might know Jimmy from other sites, 1039SweetChildren and GreenDayOnline, and before then, Green Day Land. He's been very dedicated in bringing Green Day news, and I'm excited that he'll be helping us out here. His first post will be later on with any information about tonight's show in Vancouver. Welcome to the team, Jimmy!

From all accounts, Green Day put on a hell of a show last night. Good way to kick start the world tour.

We will be adding photos right here in the picture vault. We don't have permission to re-publish the following photos yet, but they're really great photos on Flickr that you should check out from both Jackie Butler and Chuck Tuck.

Here's a quote from the Seattle Times review:
With nearly two decades of music under their belt, the trio knows what it's doing, and they incorporated all the elements of a stellar show. The always charismatic lead singer Armstrong asked the audience to sing along, call back and even join him on stage. Some lucky fans got to dance on stage and sing along to Armstrong on guitar. One male fan even kissed Armstrong on the lips.

The frontman also threw T-shirts into the audience, and sprayed fans with a large water gun. It was a true party.

A different review from Spin magazine had plenty more good things to say about the show. You can see the full setlist at the end of this article:
These are moments lifelong fans are made of.

Say what you want about Green Day's methods or motivation. The band's relationship with its audience is disarmingly real, a cross-generational give-and-take that's as punk as any Gilman Street scroungers today.

Happy 4th of July to everyone in the USA. Sorry about the delay in getting this post up, I was having some trouble with the internet.

The tour continues tonight in Vancouver.

Here's a great Q&A with Tre from Canoe Jam! Music. Here's an exciting quote about the new tour:
We're switching it up; we're not doing the same songs we did on the last tour. We're adding songs that people didn't get to hear last time and we haven't played in years. And we're playing the newer stuff -- basically mixing from all the records. That's a physical feat in itself, playing all those songs. There's 20-something songs, maybe 30.

Tre, as always, is very entertaining. Read the article to read about the "woman inside him" and some other great stuff.

The world tour kicks off tonight!! Hope all of you going to Seattle show have a great fucking time. Come back here and email us with your reviews/pictures/set lists, etc.

We've added two new people to the team to help with the picture vault, Jordan (TheBullwinkle) and Robin (billiejoe1), they've been working with Courtney on uploading a shitload of pictures to the Picture Vault. Around 300 photos have been added in the last 3 days. You can view them all by by clicking here.

The font downloads have also been updated.
Happy 15th Anniversary to Billie Joe and Adrienne Armstrong.

A local newspaper from Mankato, MN - where Adrienne lived during her college years, and where she met Billie Joe during one of Green Day's early tours - posted a really great interview with Adrienne.

She talks about living in Mankato, meeting Billie Joe, how their relationship got started, and the work she's up to now.

A few of the facts I learned from there: She graduated college in 1993 with a degree in Sociology; Billie Joe proposed to her only 2 weeks after she moved to California with him; She no longer does any work with Adeline Records; She was a manager at the Mankato Pier 1 during college, before moving to California. Read the article for more.

It was made official today that 21st Century Breakdown has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. 21CB now becomes the 9th Green Day album to be certified gold, meaning it's sold over 500,000 copies in the US. Not too surprising considering the album sold over 200,000 copies in it's first 3 days of sales. But, a wonderful milestone none-the-less.

Over in Australia, to help combat ticket scalpers, the ticket company (Ticketek) required fans to line up at the venue box office to get the best tickets. There was a 2 ticket per person limit, over 50 people were lined up with sleeping bags at 2am waiting to get one (or two) of the limited 300 tickets that went on sale at 9am this morning. I applaud their dedication, I'm sure it will all be worth it in December when Green Day takes the 21CB tour down to Australia. Full story from the Daily Telegraph.

KITS Live 105 in San Francisco will be giving away Green Day tickets and an iPod Touch tomorrow. They'll be at Serramonte Ford in Colma/Daly City, CA July 1st from 6 - 8pm. If you're from the Bay Area head out for a chance to win some tickets.

Any other local contests you've heard giving out Green Day tickets? Send us an email so we can help get the word out.

Our new banner up top comes from our newest graphic designer, Vlad. We're happy to add him to the team.

The world tour kicks off this Friday. I'm going to see them in Philadelphia next month, and again in Phoenix in August. Full list of dates can be found here. Don't forget that you can click the green icon on the right side of each date to take you to a specific thread to discuss that show. People are using these to plan or talk to other fans also planning for that show.

Green Day will be at the West Acres Mall Hot Topic in Fargo, ND doing a Meet and Greet on July 10. You can go to that store now to buy 21st Century Breakdown and any Green Day shirt to qualify and pickup a wristband that'll get you into the Meet and Greet on July 10th. Supplies are limited. The ad for the even can be seen here.

As mentioned last week, we will be selling some GDA wristbands. We've updated the Wristband page with details. To summarize, we'll only take orders from July 1 - July 7, and payments can only be made online via PayPal (you don't need a PayPal account, just a valid debit/credit card). Sorry, no mail orders. We will ship internationally (outside the USA). $3.50 each for US orders, $4.50 each for International orders (the added $1 is for shipping). Shipping is included in those prices. Orders will be shipped July 25th. Visit this page for all the details. On July 1 that page will be updated with the purchase links to order.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I've been a little MIA the past few days.

Green Day's Myspace just posted up a "Behind the Scenes" of the 21 Guns music video. Over 1000 "squibs" or those little explosions meant to mimic gun fire, over 2 miles of cable, and Tre blew up in Billie's mouth.

Starting next Wednesday, July 1st, we're gonna be selling some wristbands from GDA that say "Green Day Community". This started off as something on our forum, people wanted something to show they were part of this community at Green Day shows, or just for the hell of it. More details will be posted here early next week. For now, you can visit this page for some pictures and details of the wristbands.

The winners in our wallpaper contest have been chosen, they are St.JimmyRules and Cheyenne. Visit the contest page to view their entries, along with the runners up (Hayley Sheets and walkingalone_x3) and all the wallpapers that were submitted. We are now working on a new wallpaper section.

As mentioned in the last post, Green Day are on the cover of EQ Magazine. Here are the scans of that article, posted originally on the forum by GreenDayCastaway1039. The article takes a very technical in-depth look at all the equipment Green Day used during the recording of 21CB. They also have some fun little facts, like the static noises that start or end some of the songs were taken directly from KCUF. Green Day bought a pirate radio transmitter and started playing the new music over it on a station they made up, titled "KCUF" months before anyone had heard the new album. The lucky few who were close enough to pick up the signal got the chance to hear the new stuff before anyone else, of course Green Day never mentioned what was playing.

Green Day is on the cover of both Kerrang and EQ magazines. You definitely need to read the Kerrang article, where the band answers questions from both fans and some other musicians. The guys give some very classic, quote-worthy answers. Here are all the scans. Thanks to die_in_tradegy for posting these on the forum.

We'll have the EQ scans up here tomorrow. If you can't wait, you can read them on the forum.

I have another update soon, but right now, I have to take the time to say HAPPY 23RD BIRTHDAY ANDRES, THE BEST SITE ADMINISTRATOR I'VE EVER HAD! Now you're getting old like me. :) I better shut up before I embarrass him.

The Picture Vault is back online! Luckily, Andres and I were able to restore everything back to what it was before. Plus I added more pictures throughout the albums, plus stills from the new 21 Guns video. Thank you to everyone over at GDC for your help. If you see any pictures that aren't working, don't worry, I know about them and I'm working to replace the file. Thanks for your patience!

Australian newspaper "The Courier Mail" has an interview with Tre Cool about the "calm before the storm". He talks about the bands downtime now after doing their burst of promotion for the new album, and less than 2 weeks before the kickoff the world tour.

Green Day also did a very entertaining interview on "Rove Live", an australian TV show over the weekend. Click here to watch the interview on YouTube. Some tidbits to look forward to: "Tre definitely swallows", "Who's that kid with Madonna", and you gotta love Mike's glasses and Tre's hair. It's a very funny video, check it out.

The Transformers 2 soundtrack is out tomorrow, which includes 21 Guns on there. Visit Amazon for the list of other artists included.

I think the video is pretty amazing, I'm really happy with it. I'm glad they decided not to go in the direction of a war-theme, it was too obvious. I like the characters, the gunfire, the intensity of it. We'd love to hear your thoughts on the video, so leave a comment by clicking here.
