From October 23 through November 1st, those of you in London will be able to visit a gallery of artwork inspired by 21st Century Breakdown.

Digital Arts.co.uk has an article up sharing details about the project.
Green Day's frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, said: "We‘re really excited to be associated with this incredible show. Seeing the pieces that our new album has inspired is very exciting. We feel a strong connection to that type of creative expression; we think the fans coming out will love it.

Spin.com has a short review of the American Idiot musical trailer that was released earlier. They also say
the American Idiot play has broken all of the 41-year-old company's box office records, and now holds the Berkeley Repertory Theater's records for top gross, biggest advance sale, and biggest single-day box office receipts!

Green Day is featured on a special edition of Kerrang! magazine titled "Kerrang Legends". "How Three Punks Took Over The Planet" The full magazine (130 pages) features Green Day, with interviews, stories, articles of the band and some photos. Click the cover on the right to view full size.

I'm not 100% sure if it's already available for purchase, post in the comments if you know. We won't be posting up 130 pages of scans, sorry. You'll have to order the magazine for yourself.

Hotpress.com has an article saying that the band is in talks to be performing at Slane next year in Ireland. Nothing has been confirmed yet. Oasis played there earlier this year to some 80,000 fans.

I've been doing a bit of work in the tour section to help organize the sections and provide you guys with better information. Many of you come here looking for setlists for each of the shows, so from now on you can find the setlists directly in the tour section. The lists are coming from Setlist.fm but we've embedded them into the site to make searching for them a lot easier. Shows with setlists will have this icon next to them. This will be updated after every show.

There is also now a camera icon next to the dates that we have photos for, which will link you to the picture vault for the specific show. And as has been the case, there is still the discussions icon which will link you to the show thread on the forum where other people are discussing the show.

We will be adding setlists and links to the pic vault for all the US shows a little later this week.
Visit the tour section to see the new features.

If there's some functionality you guys would like to see, feel free to leave your ideas in the comments.

Larry Livermore posted up part 2 of his interview with Billie Joe Armstrong from 2001/2002.

In Part II they talk a lot about the early beginnings of Green Day, about John Kiffmeyer, his influence on the band and his departure, and the passion all of them had early on to making music. Toward the end they talk about Billie's views on parenting.

Once again it's a really great read that gives a lot of depth and insight into Green Day. Read it here.

As you will notice we have updated our way of during our show recaps to make things a little more manageable for readers and the GDA staff. Instead of having a update for each show we have decided to do one update per week in one post that has links to photos, videos, and reviews all in one place.

This week Green Day continued the Europe leg of the 21st Century Breakdown tour with four stunning shows in Spain and France. Elpais.com has posted their review of the show in Barcelona Spain here. [translated].
Following an entry with pieces from the new album, the concert managed to recover some classical themes, including songs such as Basket Case, She and King for a Day. The power of sound was driven by the voice of Billie Joe and a rhythm section that worked like a steamroller.

Yes i know things have been slow here, I apologize once again. I've been busy working on some other projects for the site. Good stuff, which will be coming soon.

Many of you have been writing in or posting in the comments asking why we aren't doing the nightly show recaps like we did during the US tour. We decided to make these weekly recaps. We'll continue to add pictures from the shows into our Picture Vault as quickly as we can, but we didn't really see the point of updating the site every day just to say "Here are some pictures".

We're working on a way to make all this stuff easier to sort through, easier to manage, easier to post, share and organize - and part of that will come with the projects I'm working on now. Which will include a re-design of the whole system we use to publish news. More details will be shared later.

Anyways, there's just a quick update to explain why things have been a bit quiet. Once I get this new stuff done, we're going to be looking for one or two additional news editors to help us out. Again, more details on that will be published soon.

Green Day is on the German Magazine "Bravo" with an article and some backstage photos. Obviously the article isn't in English, but if you don't speak German, you can at least appreciate the photos. Or learn German. Thanks to SweetVendetta for sending these in.

Billie Joe is listed on MusicRadar.com' 29 Les Paul Legends at number 7 (The site is taking forever to load, here's a summary of what it says). "Armstrong now owns more than 20 original 1950s Juniors, his favourite a 1956 example he calls Floyd that was purchased in 2000 prior to the studio sessions for Green Day's Warning LP."

An official twitter account has been setup for Green Day, you can follow them at twitter.com/greenday. We're told that right now it's just news updates from the official site. Hopefully someone will teach them what twitter is and how to use it. After all, they are very very old men. Except Tre, at least he's got a hold of Facebook.

Yay! YouTube has just confirmed on it's blog that they have reached a deal with Warner to allow music by their artists on YouTube.com

Last December Warner stepped away from YouTube and starting pulling off songs and making copyright claims on thousands of clips from artists on their label, including Green Day. This included Green Day's official YouTube page, youtube.com/greenday. The page used to have all of the bands music videos and all were taken offline in a single day. They also began muting fan-videos that included Green Day, which was very very annoying.

On the YouTube blog they mention they've made a multi-year ad-revenue sharing deal with Warner music group.

So in short, Green Day's music can now be back on YouTube. Woo.

On another note, I'd like to thank everyone who sent in donations to help us out. We really appreciate it.

Green Day kicked off their second leg of the '21st Century Breakdown' Tour tonight in Lisbon, Portugal at the Atlantico Pavilion with a 2 hour and 15 minute set.

You can read a full review of tonight's show on the Portuguese site, Blitz.Aeiou.pt. Click here to read a translated version of the review.
The stakes were high, expectations were there right on top, inflated by years of waiting, because Green Day has become one of the biggest rock bands in the world......
.....The great hall of the Pavilion turned out to be well prepared and artillery to get a true punk-rock downloading. "Good evening, Portugal" were the first words that the master of ceremonies articulated before starting the pyrotechnic explosions that filled the show from start to finish.

You can view some photos from the show in this album of our Picture Vault

Some fan shot videos can already be viewed over on YouTube.com by clicking here.

If you would like to contribute photos to GDA that you took at one of the shows on this tour please send them to gdapicvault@gmail.com.

Billie Joe recently was interviewed by the Noise: SFBG Music Bog talking about the American Idiot Musical. They also talk about how the making of the musical had helped inspire some of the aspects on 21st Century Breakdown and about how you “can’t download an autograph”.
I have so much respect for Michael. After seeing Spring Awakening, I knew he could come up with something that was great -- and be sincere to the album. And when I saw the first few workshops, I was blown away -- it was even more than I expected.

Click here to read the complete interview.

While on the same topic, Tre was interviewed by Star 101.3 concerning the musical as well which you can watch by clicking here.

Also, tonight kicks off the second leg of the 21st Century Breakdown tour in Lisbon, Portugal. Be sure to visit GDA after the show is over to see a full recap of the show. I hope that all of you that are going have an amazing time tonight!

Larry Livermore (founder of Lookout! Records, and the band the Lookouts) just recently re-designed his blog, larrylivermore.com, and one of the featured posts is this interview with Billie Joe from late 2001/early 2002.

So far he's only posted part one, but it's a really great interview. They talk a lot about what Billie Joe and the band went through in the early years, their families, and also about the confusing time surrounding the success of Dookie.

Here's an excerpt talking about the time after Dookie with Insomniac:
Yeah. I think I was just lost. I couldn’t find the strength to convince myself that what I was doing was a good thing. I was in a band that was huge because it was supposed to be huge, because our songs were that good. I couldn’t ever feel like I was doing the right thing, because it felt like I was making so many people angry. That’s where I got so confused, and it became really stupid. I would never want to live that part of my life over again. Ever.

The September 26 issue of Kerrang Magazine has Green Day on the cover with the following, "Win a private Green Day show for you and your mates with our awesome competition!"

The competition is for folks attending the UK shows to get into the soundcheck, we think. We haven't seen the full details yet, so if someone can send us the scans (greendayauth@gmail.com) we would appreciate it.

Green Day is also in last weeks issue of Kerrang (9/16) in an article titled "Theatre is Dangerous Again!". Here are the scans. Our thanks to HeartLykAHandGrenade for posting these on the forum.

Posted Friday, September 25, 2009 at 12:39pm by Andres
Following the release of the live music video for East Jesus Nowhere, the band has announced that East Jesus Nowhere will be the next single, which will be released on October 19th.

EJN will be released as a single in the UK and the USA. The rest of the world will get 21st Century Breakdown. We've heard the EJN video has started playing on TV stations in the UK as well as some countries like Brazil. We also know they're set to release 21st Century Breakdown as their next music video (no release date has been given yet).

From ClashMusic.com
. Taken from their latest album 'East Jesus Nowhere' is a stomping punk attack. The opening track of the album’s second act ‘Charlatans And Saints’ and a vital element of the ‘21st Century Breakdown’ concept, the single is a precursor to the band's new UK tour.

For those of you that want both singles, we are lucky to have a beautiful thing called "imports". I'm sure you'll be able to find the singles online through Amazon or eBay after they're released.

The folks over at Because Sound Matters (a division of Warner Bros Records) posted up an unboxing of the Green Day Vinyl Collectors Set. Watch it on YouTube. That thing is really really sexy. Can't wait to get mine.

Here's a really short interview with the band about the musical posted by KCBS radio station in San Fran/Oakland.

For an in-depth review and history of how the musical production came about, you should read this article from the LA Times. (Thanks to NWWM for the link)

Sorry about the sparsity of updates the past few days, but i have good news! Everyone who ordered a sticker or a wristband should get their order in the next 10 days (2-4 business days for US orders). All the orders have been shipped, all orders from July - September 23rd. Earlier this year we posted about Green Day gathering together a 21st Century Breakdown art show. Well after a few months of planning everything seems to have come together. Earlier this week GreenDay.com posted a press release concerning the upcoming art show. They state that the art show is planned on running at the StolenSpace Gallery in Shoreditch, East London from the 22nd of October until the 1st of November.

"We‘re really excited to be associated with this incredible show," Green Day front-man Billie Joe Armstrong said. "Seeing the pieces that our new album has inspired is very exciting. We feel a strong connection to that type of creative expression; we think the fans coming out will love it."

The shows creator, Logan Hicks said that he tried to pick artist who had the same type of visual approach to art as Green Day does to their music. In the show each piece of art represents a certain song on the album from 'Song of The Century' to 'See The Light'. You can view the complete press release on Green Day's official website by clicking here. If you are in the area for one of the shows at the 02 Arena in London be sure to stop and see the wonderful pieces of artwork in the gallery.

Also, on a side note, Download of the Week has also been updated with a download of 'Holiday' at the 2005 EMA's.

As we've been mentioning, J'net was lucky enough to attend the American Idiot musical earlier this month. She's been working on this amazing review, which is finally ready for you guys to read. She did an awesome job sharing details about the production and the actors, and it's nice to read it from a point of view of someone who really understands and appreciates Green Day's music. Read her review right here.

Here's a snippit:
The basis of this show is Green Day’s superb music – American Idiot. It’s obvious that someone who revered this work was paying deep attention to every nuance in translating it to the stage. The way chances are taken with the songs as they are interpreted, transitioned and mixed with each other leaves them surprisingly true to the originals. The overall experience of this production actually adds dimension to a work I thought I understood through and through.

The American Idiot Musical made it's debut a couple days ago (Sept. 16) for the public, so here's a couple articles and some photos. For those of you who asked, J'net's review is just about done and will be published soon. The newest issue of Rolling Stone has a small blurb about the musical, along with a picture of Billie Joe and Mike with Adrienne and Brittney. The first picture below is from Rolling Stone.

Article from Rolling Stone.com
Billie Joe: “I was interested and flattered to meet [director] Michael Mayer. We were floored by Spring Awakening [the 2006 Tony-winning rock musical Mayer helmed], and so there were no worries. I think this is a broader version of the album. We started with Johnny, St. Jimmy, and Whatsername, and Mayer added Will, Tunny and Heather. Your heart goes out to them.”

Article from SFist.com
The cast, led by Tony-winner John Gallagher Jr., is phenomenal and the physicality they bring to the show and Steven Hoggett's punk-esque choreography deserves a lot of praise. The sets, lighting, video and projection design are all amazing, creating a huge, urban jungle gym of concrete platforms, flat-screen TVs, and ad-plastered walls that keep every scene visually alive.

Article From sfexaminer.com
That attendance, and the fact that the show’s run already has been extended, isn’t entirely surprising, given Green Day’s international popularity as well as its hometown appeal.

We're working on a page for guys to listen to all the extra b-sides that came out with 21CB since many of you have been asking for it. We hope to have it up in the next couple days, it will be mentioned here.

Green Day took the MTV VMA stage yesterday for the VMA Rehearsals and they did way more than just a simple sound check.
"For us to get used to a stage, we just have to play for a long time ... and there were a lot of people, and it seemed like they were just tired, they'd been working here all day, getting the production together," Billie Joe Armstrong told MTV News after rehearsals. "So we ran through 'East Jesus Nowhere' a couple times and then we were like, 'The hell with it, let's just jam.' So we played 'Longview,' 'Murder City,' 'Holiday,' 'American Idiot,' 'Know Your Enemy.' We just kept going, and I got up dancing, so it was pretty cool."

You can read the full article over at MTV News.

Also, while on the topic of the VMA's, MTV.com has posted up a few new video interviews with Green Day from yesterday including: VMA Rehearsal Becomes a Jam Session, Green Day Responds to Lady Gaga, Green Day Warns Lady Gaga about Their Pyro, and Michael Jackson's Impact on Green Day.

Our thanks to Jennie H. for sending us the Kerrang! scans to share. It's a very good read, and to sum it up, it's basically Kerrang! saying Green Day has the best damn show out there. Here are the scans:

And some note-worthy quotes from the article.
What can British audiences expect when they come and see you in October?
They can expect to get laid," says Tre Cool.
"By You?"
Smiling, Nodding, "Sure, if they like."

When asked what younger-Green Day would have thought of the current-Green Day, Tre says
"They would have liked us, but we would have hated them. We would have probably kicked them off the tour, they were assholes

Billie Joe was asked if there was a better live band in the world, he said:
Honestly, I would have to say there's not. Not to toot my own horn here, but I think it's absolutely the best show that's out there at the moment. We're able to create an intimacy that no-one else can match

And some quick facts about the tour. There are 93 crew members, which traveled to nearly 40 cities since early July on seven tour buses and 11 semi's which carry the entire stage, merchandise, equipment and pyrotechnics. Mike said they do all their traveling by bus because, "We don't charge enough to fly between shows".

The newest issue of Kerrang! Magazine came out yesterday and a certain lead singer is gracing the front cover. Pretty good shot of Billie Joe during a performance, which fits well as the title of the article is "US Tour Report".

We haven't seen any scans yet, so if anyone out there can scan the article, please send them over to us at greendayauth@gmail.com. For those of you in the US, some 'Barnes and Noble' and 'Borders' stores carry the magazine, but I'm not sure if they get it at the same release time as the UK stores.

It has been confirmed by a few sources that one of the opening bands for the UK tour will include Los Angeles indie rockers, Prima Donna. You can take a look at their Myspace page to listen to some of their music.

You may already know lead guitarist and singer of Prima Donna, Kevin Preston, from the Green Day alter-ego side project, the Foxboro Hottubs. Since the two bands are touring together it makes you wonder if the Foxboro Hottubs will be making a UK performance.

Update 9:00pm EDT: It has been confirmed by GreenDay.com that Prima Donna will play with Green Day for all of their UK and Europe shows!

Tonight is the premiere for the American Idiot musical at the Berkeley Rep Theater, in Berkeley CA. News came out yesterday that the musical has extended it's run by three weeks, till November 1st, because of high demand for the tickets (read an article from liveDaily.com). The new batch will be available for purchase September 9th. So if you wanted to go but weren't able to get tickets the first time around, definitely keep an eye out for those.

J'net is attending the premiere tonight, so we'll look forward to her recap about the show.

Details can be found on the Berkeley Rep's site. Here are a few photos of the band working with director Michael Mayer during rehearsals.

InStyle Magazine has a special issue that came out today, called InStyle Weddings. Mike and Brittney's wedding was featured in the star weddings section of the magazine. Don't get too excited, there's only 2 pages. But if you want to see more photos of their special day, you can visit the photographer's (Miss Lolo) website and check out the gallery (warning, there is nudity). One interesting thing I learned from the article is that Billie Joe sang an unreleased song at their wedding called "When It's Time". We think it's the song that Billie Joe sang at one of the Madison Square Garden shows on this tour, named "Tell Me When It's Time to Say I Love You". You can listen to it below.

Director Marc Webb will be joining the band again to direct their next music video, this one for 21st Century Breakdown.

Marc directed their most recent video, 21 Guns, as well as the music video for Waiting.

On a semi-related side-note, Marc Webb just released his debut as a film director with the movie 500 Days of Summer. I enjoyed the movie, and Marc definitely has the skills, so I'm looking forward to his work with the 21CB video. You can view the other music videos he's done on his site.

No details about the video have been announced yet.
