The openers last night were My Chemical Romance and Jimmy Eat World. JEW were especially good, playing such classics as Bleed American, The Middle and of course finishing with Sweetness.
Green Day came on earlyish - around 8:15pm.. but that meant that they could play a longer set :) They began with Tre coming out in his rabbit suit... classic stuff, helping the crowd out with YMCA and Blitzkrieg Bop.
Then the classical music came on and we knew that GREEN DAY was only moments away!!!
BJA came out, his hair very very long now!! Mike looked cool as ever, very energetic. Tre was just TRE!!
So they began ploughing through most of the first half of American Idiot - the recent release of Jesus of Suburbia as a single made it a big hit with the crowd. But in the first half hour or so, the biggest mosh song was HOLIDAY!! (complete with fireworks and "ANTI- WAAAAR!!!")
After this they went into a blast from the past, with such tracks as Longview & Hitchin' A Ride. Then they went into Operation Ivy and chose the band from the crowd. The drummer was awesome - told BJA that he'd been playing for 8 years - and he looked it. The bassist wasn't too bad... got a grip on Knowledge fairly well. The guitarist was same old - he was only 12!!! But hey theres only so much you can do with a 3-chord song!!
A definite highlight of the night was King for a Day/Shout. You can tell who had watched Bullet in a Bible at this part! They all looked great in their drag-like hats etc.
They finished their main set with Wake Me Up When September Ends, She, and then Minority.
The encore was huge. They did a surprising cover of I Fought The Law, but it was definitely memorable - even the 13 year olds were getting into it by the end - "I Fought The Law.. And The LAW WON!"
Then into Boulevard of Broken Dreams.. a huge sing-a-long for all.
We are the champions resulted in confetti all over the two moshes, another great singalong, but i was a bit put out by the lack of people in the mosh that knew the VERSES!!
Then the biggest surprise of the night!! Instead of the predicted When I Come Around, our favourite punk trio went into HOMECOMING! Personally, my favourite track off American Idiot, I was overwhelmed and was totally blown away by the way the guys delivered this one. Awesome :D
Then Billie Joe came out and finished off with Good Riddance. It was an awesome show, I can't wait till they come back upon the release of their next album.
Shout out to Antonio for bein there with me the whole time, Hannah because she just missed out, and Chloe for the pic of BJA in Good Riddance!!!
Later, MIKE!
