  • "The first guy to try out for the job, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, played a Gilman show with Rancid, and although it worked well ('It was rad, it was great,' says Matt), Billie, as Tim puts it, 'had other things going on. Another band he was doing pretty well with.'"
  • Jason White: "The night after I moved here, we went to Gilman and saw Econochrist, D.O.A. and Rancid. Billie Joe was playing second guitar with Rancid that night. Todd [a.k.a. Michelle Cruz Gonzalez], my girlfriend at the time, said, 'The word around the town is that a major wants to sign them.' People were talking about it."
