  • Kiko Amat: "Hey, Nostradamus! Yes, should I’ve been asked in 1992 I could have predicted and described their road to global success with shocking precision. Unfortunately, nobody asked me nothing then. How did I guess that, you ask me? Easy! Whenever I made tapes for my friends back in my hometown (and I spent half of my life doing that), Green Day was the only band EVERYBODY liked. Rugby players, dope-smokers, squares, different orangutans, former skins, guys who didn’t own a single album, loony bin loonies, accordion players on the go… It didn’t matter. Kerplunk!, bootlegged by me but now going from hand to hand like the best 80s porn, made no distinctions between genders, backgrounds, social classes or dick sizes. A Ford Fiesta would go by and from the windows you’d hear 'Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?' FULL BLAST all over Sant Boi like a commune salvation homily. It still gives me goose pimps, honestly. 'There’s no motivation and frustration makes him crazy.' At 19? That is exactly what you want someone to put into words. Half of Sant Boi attended the last gig that Green Day gave at a small venue, the Garatge Club (where else!), in 1994, when they’d just published Dookie but it hadn’t become massive yet. All on the pit, shirtless and in charging-rhinoceros mode, even when half of them had never been to a punk-rock show ever. It didn’t matter, it didn’t matter. The infinite appeal of Green Day was universal, one of those historic pop peaks in which a very mixed crowd start singing the same song. It was magnificent."
