On Green Day Announce Deluxe Edition Of 'Saviors, Share New Song 'Smash It Like Belushi'

Mato
I managed to get it earlier so...

Stay Young is beautiful even just for the sentiment of its title and the repeating of the line throughout choruses. Even though it's basically again the same old four chords, it has something in the melodies and the solo not typical for Green Day, in a good way. It's really melancholic and sentimental. It's a Whatshername type song, both in tempo and style. A good melodic alternative rock song. It's definitely my favorite out of the new ones.

Spoiler

Stay Young

Here we are face-to-face

Now you're gone I'm a mess

There's no words like before

And there's nothing I can say

Can't look at you in your eyes

'Cause everything fades and dies

Stay young

Stay young

Stay young

Stay young

So stay young, you didn't have to be like everyone

So stay young

Stay...

I regret

What we are

Do you know what we were?

I imagine you're a star

Always there overhead

Now all I can do is pretend

'cause everything good must end

Stay young

Stay young

Stay young

Stay young

So stay young

You didn't have to be like everyone

To stay young

Stay

So stay young

You can never be like everyone

So stay young

Stay

Stay young

Stay young

Stay young

Stay young

Fuck Off is basically Murder City but with cringey lyrics. Still kind of fun, but nothing compared to bitter F.O.D. or more extremely Take Back and Platypus

Spoiler

Fuck Off

Fuck off

Fuck off

Just F U C K O F F Fuck off

Fuck off

Fuck off

Just F U C K O F F Fuck off

Sucker

You're a sucker

You've been suckered by hustlers and liars

You're a liar

You're so tired

So kindly just

Fuck off

Fuck off

Just F U C K O F F Fuck off

Stupid

You're so stupid

Undisputed in madness

and your babble

Blabbermouth full

Stick your bible and

shove it up

Fuck off

Fuck off

Just F U C K O F F Fuck off

Nobody's got the heart to tell you where to go

But in all honesty

Fuck off

Fuck off

Just F U C K O F F Fuck off

Fuck off

Fuck off

Just F U C K O F F Fuck off

Underdog is musically a short classic 90s style Green Day song with some Trilogy vibes. Lyrics are also pretty cringey and almost AI ish. It's the only one that has a different production and mix, especially with the way drums are mixed. Also noted that it's the only song produced by Green Day only.

Spoiler

Underdog

I wanna be your underdog

I'm not number one, but I'm second to none

Heroes are overrated when you are the outlaw

'Cause I wanna be your underdog

I wanna be your underdog

I'm so hideous that I'm beautiful

Maybe you're one of a kind, but I'm the chosen one

'cause I wanna be your underdog

I'd rather live amongst the wild wild life

Life is too short to be normal

I may be ugly, but I'm larger than life

I'm not a loser, I'm not a loser

I wanna be your underdog

I'd rather live amongst the wild wild life

Life is too short to be normal

I may be ugly, but I'm larger than life

I'm not a loser, I'm not a loser

I wanna be your underdog

And just like I thought it would be, Suzy Chapstick and Father To A Son are just an acoustic/alternate mixes of the album versions. So just acoustic guitars, backing vocals, some solos and strings are in there. But they're still pretty nice.

Weirdly, booklet says that all of the new songs were mixed by Chris Dugan, even though they sound like they were mixed by CLA in the same batch with the album (except the Underdog). Go figure

It's interesting how, after recently listening to 21st Century Breakdown in full couple of times and reliving those lyrics, the literality of some of those new ones seem really basic and kind of lazy in a lot of ways. It's kind of hard to comprehend that it's the same band. On the other hand, they are still my absolutely favorite no1 band and it still excites me to the core when new releases are out. Green Day is my home and safety and will always be ❤️

btw. there's a cool collage of photos from the Saviors tour in the inside of the digipack 😊

On Green Day's new song 'Ballyhoo' out now!

pacejunkie punk
To me it sounds like a common topic recently which is how he feels with his on again off again up and down struggle with a harmful habit. Reach for a knife, let it go, live it up, give up, it’s a curse, the worst, mama raised a bomb.. it’s in his nature to be a hellion but he fights against it.

A couple of images I love are “useless as a … crippled ballerina” and “waiting on the sun like a star that’s blowing up”. It’s like another way of describing himself as a dead man walking. Like disaster has already struck but he doesn’t know it yet.

He might write a lot about a short list of themes but no one captures the human condition and describes feelings in a simple yet relatable and emotional way like he does. He somehow always avoids sounding too self indulgent or self pitying. Like with Smash It Like Belushi the message is when you’re feeling this way just keep your head down keep going and rip shit up. It’s empowering 💚

They played AI.

They played Holiday.

They even played BOBD, which also can be read as a sign of how bad your mentality can become when your country is broken.

They did what they always do. Using their voice on our behalf and telling what's the truth.

They didn't need to prove anything. They have always done that. For 30 years.

Fucking love this band.

Great performance.

On Welcome back to The Green Day Authority!

kaylubd GDA Staff
The return of GDA! Welcome back! The site has had its ups and downs over the years, but I'm glad GDA/GDC has persevered. I've been in and out of fansites throughout the years, but GDA is the only one that has stuck with me. This site and community mean so much to me. I've made friends here, gotten so much support when going through difficult times, and experienced the kindness of other fans. It still blows my mind how people here are willing to help out others and expect nothing in return. It's just fans helping out other fans.

And I've received so much love, support, and advice here whenever I was struggling. I've experienced so many life events while on this site: bad breakups, losing loved ones, losing jobs, etc. But no matter how bad it got, GDC was there to help me through it. Sometimes it was venting with others. Sometimes it was just to gwak at Billie and take my mind off of things. This love and support help keep me going, especially in terms of writing. I've been writing independently for 10 years now, and it often feels like you're writing into a void. I've wanted to quit so many times, but just when I wanted to give up, I would get a comment from someone on GDC, and it'd make me smile. I felt good that at least one person took the time to read something I wrote. It inspires me to keep writing. It even helped me join the GDA team! I still remember someone on the board recommending me as a writer for the site, and it meant a lot to me. I'm filled with so much pride and joy everytime I log onto the site and see "GDA Staff" under my cursed profile picture. I remember when I first found the site, thinking the people who got to talk about Green Day all day were the coolest people in the world. I never thought that one day I would join GDA and be part of the cool kids

Even though the site has been through some rough times, it's great to see the impact it has had on people. Fans still talk about the site and have good memories tied to it. I hope more folks will visit the site, whether they're new or returning users, because this truly is a special place. Long live GDA.

👏👏👏 Welcome back and thank you for all the hard work. GDA was once a great reference resource (still is for tour dates) and I know it will be again. The occasional support and interaction of the Green Day team made this place unique too.

Fan message boards were my first introduction to the internet way back when and I still love having a place just for fans to connect and interact without all the other bullshit of scams, bots and trolls. I recently deleted my Facebook and backed away from the cesspool of most social media and I’ve been focusing back on the fan and special interest forum formats I once loved through Reddit and here. Still the best.

On Green Day take no awards home from the 2025 Grammy Awards

Maria GDA Staff
Regardless of the quality of the other nominations, The Beatles winning a Grammy in 2025 is a naff gimmick, especially when AI had to be used to lift Lennon's voice from an ancient tape. No, that's not quite the same as someone using AI to write a song, but as far as I'm concerned no art is 'legit' if AI is involved in its creation.

On Photos that will take you to the tracks at Christie Road

Now fans can go and see the Green Day wall and plaque at the 7-Eleven at the centre of the earth! It's pretty cool that Green Day's place in local history has been immortalised there.

I'll definitely go back next time I'm in the Bay Area, but I'm glad I saw it as it used to be too.

On Green Day to open the 2026 NFL Super Bowl on Feb. 8th

Winter321
What a crazy concept 😆🤯

But if you put it that way, what’s more important?

1) To get the message of American Idiot and everything they stand for for a broader audience, even if it’s not a complete “fuck you” message they usually come up with.

or

2) Refuse to participate because they have to censor some of their stuff, therefore not get the message across broader audience at all.

I know they are still super popular and super relevant especially in the United States, and that they still can sell out standiums around the world, but they really aren’t that relevant in the grand scheme of things. We just think they are because we are in this Green Day fan bubble. But ordinary people do not care about them at all.

Today was the first time in I heard my work colleagues talking about Green Day and the message they sent, and how cool it was, and that their sole pressence pissed Trump off. And even with this, the conversation we had at work was mostly focus on Bad Bunny.

I understand your disappointment. I’m disappointed as well. I just don’t agree with this way of looking at things, and I think it’s much more nuanced.

On Billie Joe and son Jakob cover 'Heroes' by David Bowie

Dingle
So Heroes was recorded to commemorate the upcoming 50th season of Survivor. Why am I not surprised.

With the band due to open a major sporting event, not for the first time, the band seem to be the first choice to nominate an existing song or even write one for some sort of major event.

The last one being the song Underdog for soundtrack for a new animal series for National Geographic. There have been 17 other songs used for various soundtracks going back to 1995, some existing, others songs written specifically for soundtrack. And this year's no different.

Nice one GD. Just shows how really special you continue to be even in the mainstream environment.

It’s so nice to read how they truly appreciate this time in their careers and have enjoyed the hell out of this tour. For so many years, it seemed like it was just go-go-go for them and I don’t think they really stopped to look around and feel proud of what they accomplished or enjoy the moment. They definitely do that now and it’s great to see. I’m sure taking that time to embrace it all makes it an overall more positive and relaxed experience for all of them.

On Green Day Nominated For 'Favorite Rock Song' At 2025 AMAs

I was just becoming a fan right before know your enemy came out.  Next thing I knew, my grandma was telling me how she just went to see their show and gave me the 21st Century Breakdown cd she bought there 😂.  In 2010, my dad and I camped out at the stage they were playing at Lollapooza all day.  That was the closest I’ve ever gotten to being picked to come up on stage.  This album holds a special place in my heart and I still come back to it regularly.

On Photos and setlist from Green Day's first Coachella performance

Maria GDA Staff
I've not seen any Coachella videos so I don't know how good the set was, but this part of the review surprised me: 'In lieu of added staging or guests (a little of friend and occasional co-performer Billie Eilish would have gone a long way), Armstrong relied on classic rock concert tricks for audience engagement.'

I'm so glad Green Day don't usually bring random celebrities on stage. I know festivals are different and the Coachella crowd must be a difficult one, but Green Day are still considered one of the best live bands in the world - they don't need a celebrity appearance to engage the audience. And it's cool that they give fans the chance to have the best nights of their lives on stage, rather than giving some other musician publicity. I also don't really understand how that would improve a shit performance 😂
