In need of a serious comeback Green Day unleashed a rock opera on an unsuspecting public that was just the right combination of punk, politics, and anger at the state of America. American Idiot hit in a big way, propelling Green Day back into the spotlight, and as the voice of those ready for political and cultural change in the George W. Bush era.
