After John Kiffmeyer quit Green Day and Tré had settled in, John showed up at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma and demanded to play the show. The band let him play but the cash went to Tré.

The Foxboro Hot Tubs were born when Tré bought a Rogers drum kit from the 1960s. Inspired by the history of the kit, he started playing older songs, and then Jason White joined him with an old Gretsch guitar. The rest of the band followed.

The American Idiot album cover was designed by Chris Bilheimer, who had never used the colour red before but chose to for this album because it was so monumental.

Green Day stayed at the Sunset Marquis in LA while recording Nimrod. As the stress of recording got to them, one of them (unspecified) went out naked and hammered on other people's doors, another (also unspecified) picked a fight with an Australian musician, and Tré threw his room's TV out of his window.

The chorus of "21 Guns" sounds like the "Route 209" theme from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
Billie Joe used to actually have a friend named "Eggplant" when he was like 16, like the character in the "My adventure with Green Day" story.
If you look closely at the Nimrod booklet, you can see that all scratched out words say "Delete This" over and over again.
In May 1995, Green Day played two nights at the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center in Oakland, CA. They donated all the profits from tickets and merch to Food Not Bombs, which provides meals for the homeless, and three other charities.
When John Kiffmeyer left Green Day to go to college, another drummer joined named Dave EC. He was only in the band for a few weeks when he decided to leave. Then Tré joined.

Billie Joe wrote "East Jesus Nowhere" after driving past a church in Wisconsin called The Church of the Divine Hope, which he thought was like calling it the "Church of Wishful Thinking."
When Billie Joe recorded the harmonica parts in "Walking Alone," he only knew how to play that song and "Oh! Susanna" by Stephen Foster.

39/Smooth was named after Billie Joe's oldest brother, Alan, because he turned 39 the day it was recorded (December 29th, 1989). "Smooth" was a "stoner thing" between Billie Joe and Mike. They couldn't decide what to call it, so they combined both.

At the beginning of Prosthetic Head, there's some scratching noise like when you pull the plug from your guitar in the amp and it stops once Billie starts singing.
In 'Longview' just after Billie Joe says "call me what you will", if you listen carefully, you can hear Mike call Billie 'whatyouwill'.

In the 'Holiday' video, just after he kisses Tre, Billie Joe's pants slip down.
In the music video of "When I Come Around", midway through the video you can see present back up guitarist Jason White with his then-girlfriend
The guy from the Time Of Your Life video, is also the dude who used to play Carter on the TV show "ER", he comes up twice in the video.
In the Last Ride In video, Tre plays the accordion part to DUI, but you can't hear it very well.
In the Minority video, Billie Joe is running around with the cape on and Mike throws a hand to trip him. The hand is given the peace sign. When it hits him it nocks off the pointer and gives the middle finger.
In 1995 or so, the video for 'Longview' was critiqued on the popular MTV show, Beavis & Butthead. 'Basketcase' was also critiqued on the "Spanish Fly" episode of Beavis and Butthead.
In the video for Holiday, if you look closely at the bar when Tre (in drag) is dancing, you can see pictures of Billie Joe with TNT on him.

Mike Dirnt Facts

On Oscar's night in 1997, Mike did a poo over the edge of his hotel balcony. It landed on Juliette Binoche's balcony. When she found it, she tried to get the band thrown out of the hotel. Mike said, "Shit happens."

While DJing in 2000, Mike challenged himself to play 7-inch records from every decade since 1920. He had about 1,000 records to choose from each night, many of which came from the Salvation Army and the Laney College Flea Market in Oakland. The first one he played was always Blue Skies by Benny Goodman.

Tre's friends jokingly called him 'Wavy Gravy' after the founder of his summer camp, Hugh 'Wavy Gravy' Romney.

At a show in Boston on October 5th, 2000, Tré cut his hand open on a falling cymbal while playing "Blood, Sex & Booze." He had to go to hospital but came back to meet fans and sign autographs.
Tré wore the exact same "lucky" clothes, including socks, to record every song on Saviors.

In the program on Nickelodeon called Brothers Garcia, the son gets a job in a CD store, and you can see the International Superhits poster in the background, Warning signs, and stands everywhere.
In one of the Jimmy Neutron episodes Jimmy starts a band with Carl and Sheen and they play the song 'Warning'.
On the Friends episode of Rachel's 30th birthday, and they're showing a clip of Ross' 30th, when he gets the car, there's an Alternative Press poster with Green Day on it, behind them.
On two different episodes of Friends. outside the coffee shop, CENTRAL PERK, there's a record shop. on one episode there was a nimrod poster (the yellow circle with nimrod written in it.
On a "Get Fuzzy" comic for January 2005 (not sure what date) the boy is wearing a shirt with GREEN DAY on the front. The cat makes fun of his "12 year old skater look".
A Green Day mention is a stand up comedian named Bobcat Goldwaith says "I'm trying to look punk but I came out looking like Green Day's dad."
In the Simple Plan video, Shut Up, David, the bassist, has an American Idiot sticker on his bass.
