Green Day has earned their frequent flier miles as they flew back to their home-state of California and performed a surprise show at the Mezzanine in San Francisco. This comes only a few days after their most recent show on October 27th in New York City.

We didn't catch word of the show until Billie tweeted about it last night just a couple hours before the show started. That definitely made it an actual surprise show. However, there were some tweets earlier in the day that hinted at the show, we just didn't see them. This tweet was sent out at 2:15pm by @surfrider:

Wouldn't it be cool if Green Day showed up at your party and played a set. Prepare to have your minds blown.

Green Day played at the end of a charity event for Surfrider Foundation, an organization that advocates for the protection of oceans and beaches. The event was headlined by Kut U Up and Ty Segall. Of course, many of you will remember Kut U Up as one of the supporting bands for Green Day and Blink 182's Pop-Disaster Tour. They were also featured in the documentary (about the tour) "Riding In Vans with Boys" (available from Amazon for $3).

As they did in NYC just a few days ago, Green Day played some classics alongside some new material which they've been showcasing at these intimate secret shows. We haven't got a definitely setlist yet, but here's a "work in progress" list being made on the forum.

Here are some photos taken at the show. We'll add more when we get them. These photos are from Twitter, so we've linked to each profile that the photo is from when you view the picture.
