Just in case some of you have still not read the AP article, here are the scans of the magazine which was released earlier this month. It's a great update on the progress of the new album.
We'll have a new editorial article up in a couple days. This one was written by Cheryl (*withoutadoubt* on the forum), and talks about the double meanings in Billie Joe's writing, and how it appeals to such a large diverse audience. We'll also have some info up once we post it for those of you interested in contributing to the editorial section.
I read the article, really good. I like how its going in depth into politics. It sounds like a really good sound too

Blimmin NZ! I still have to wait three weeks to get that magazine. We are a month behind on AP magazine, and when it does come out the only magazine store in the whole of Hamilton only gets four copies, two of which go to the library. I have it on special order at a book store, I just hope they get it.

I'm the Walking Contradiction on December 29, 2008 9:06 am
Yes, i read all of that ages ago, as i have a copy!! i don't think there's any complex with Billie's writing, he's very intelligent but he doesn't talk to you as if your stupid, he's just a regular guy but passionate about his music and wants to shout out his feelings, i love the fact that they are going to 'religion', because truefully it is a taboo. Would the world be a better place without it?...... who knows? B's just asking himself and for us fans, and doesn't care what shit he gets into, and that's beautiful and that's what a true punk does...... i'm proud to be a GD fan.
@DanniiDirnt With/without eyeliner, they still look the same and still pretty hot...... mid-thirties?! mid-twenties i think.... i wish..... xxx
and one last thing 'Good Riddance' was on the radio whilst i was working, what made me laugh... was afterwards the DJ said "What a beautiful song" no no no..... it's a joke, it's ironic but sung beautifully.

44
SparkInTheNight on December 30, 2008 5:25 pm
@The.best.fembot.ever: I loved the eyeliner! It was amazing... also it was something to remember GD for. For example, I'll get into a conversation about music and GD will come up and people will say, "Oh, those guys with the eyeliner..." You don't see men wearing eyeliner every day and looking GOOD in it, so when people do see that, they remember. A lot of time it will spike curiosity too, so people check them out. That's how some friends of mine became fans of Green Day.
@Archie: I think ANYTHING is better then being an obsessed teen girl (or guy, I guess :P) in love with Green Day just because of looks. I hate it how some people are like, "Green Day? OOOHH THEY'RE SOOO HOT AND SEXY!!!!!" rather than, "Green Day? They're the best band in the world. I love their music. It's so inspiring and fun to listen to," or something along those lines. Though both statements may be true, bands are for music, not looks. I don't want GD to be like other suckish bands like Fall Out Boy or the Jonas Brothers.
45
BJ=My Life!!!! on December 30, 2008 5:48 pm
Hell no the eyeliner just maes them sexier! BJ looks super hot in these (like always) but i love his eyeliner! He looks sexi without it but with it hes beyond that! Im really hoping they havent stopped wearing the eyeliner!!

Moonbeam on December 30, 2008 7:08 pm
I really like that article. It really builds up the hype for the new album. I hope it's good. @archie: Grow up. I think it's equally as patheic to be someone who writes "sellouts" on a website to start arguments as it is to be someone who only likes a band for their looks. And about the eyeliner, it really doesn't bother me either way, it's not like it makes a difference to their music or who they are.

Are you kidding? The makeup was God Awful! To me it showed they lacked respect and greatfulness to what they truly stood for.Like cunt teenage girls wear so much makeup becuase of low self esteem and poor judgment. I swear the whole emo fashion shit is ruining everything...Thanks BJ=My Life. Thanks for your brutal ignorent and obnoxious honesty on why so many teenie boppers love Green Day.
52
Morgan on December 30, 2008 9:38 pm
I'm really excited for the new album after reading the article and it sounds like it's going to be really good. I'm pretty indifferent about the makeup. I don't really care what they look like and it's not why I like the band.
53
Whatsername~TGpooch on December 30, 2008 10:31 pm
@The.best.fembot.ever: How does wearing eye makeup show a lack of respect and gratefulness for what GD stood for? That makes NO sense. But they didn't wear it because of low self esteem, I'm sure. And GD is PUNK not EMO. How does "emo fashion" ruin everything anyway? I like Morgan's view on this.

Yeah I saw the magazine pics on greenday.com a while back, but I enjoyed looking at them again. I seriously can't wait for the new album. ^w^
As for the whole "with or without eyeliner" debate, it doesn't really matter a whole lot to me, but I would have to say that I like them better w/o eyeliner.
They just look so grown up, and yet they look so young. Wow, they age really well! :)

I'm the Walking Contradiction on December 31, 2008 10:14 am
(Takes a deep breath) Why is everyone bitching?..... again. God i thought the news was about GD's writing and the recent AP mag. So what about eyeliner, for 15 years they never wore it, why should it make a difference if they don't wear it now! thay might do again, you lot need to be more patient, remember 2009 starts tomorrow, meaning their new album soon...... 'Hello?!'
Besides as soon as they wore make-up, nearly every other band copied them......it did my head in that my style was becoming everybody elses. But i have stayed the same, and luckily i have noticed something, alot of people are like sheep, they follow 'fads' now it seems to be an 80's thing going, i think it's cool, but it's not me.... i will always wear black, converse, in-your-face make-up and be smart aswell. It's important to me to individual, it's up to GD what they wear and look, they did earn it........ Anyway i'm off for a long couple of days of work later, Happy MMIX to you over the lake. xxx

SparkInTheNight on December 31, 2008 12:17 pm
I don't REALLY care if they wear eyeliner or not. It's totally their choice, and having eye makeup won't effect their music. But it bugs me when people get mad because they wore eyeliner or because they don't. Screw the eyeliner, pay attention to their music! THERE.
But anyway, great AP article. And as always, looking forward VERY MUCH to the new album.

You can pre-order the CD from Amazon (If you are a member) I have XD Can't wait
Just in case some of you have still not read the AP article, here are the scans of the magazine which was released earlier this month. It's a great update on the progress of the new album.
We'll have a new editorial article up in a couple days. This one was written by Cheryl (*withoutadoubt* on the forum), and talks about the double meanings in Billie Joe's writing, and how it appeals to such a large diverse audience. We'll also have some info up once we post it for those of you interested in contributing to the editorial section.
Sorry I hadn't mentioned this earlier, but J'net has updated the Other Crew page. I'm pretty excited to see this section continue to grow a bit, and hope you guys enjoy it as well. She has up some mini bio's and info up for people Green Day has worked with such as Butch Vig, Jerry Fin, Rob Cavallo, Timmy Chunks, Bill Schneider and the musicians who tour with them. J'net continues to update it, so comments and more information are welcome.
Salt Lake Magazine did a review of Stop Drop and Roll!! as one of the top albums of 2008. I can't believe it's already been a year since we first found out about Foxboro. Where the hell has this year flown to?
mmm perfect segue...
I'm working on our 2008 recap right now, which will go up shortly after the New Year. Most likely on the 1st. If it's not up by then, send me hate mail.
Warner Bro's decided to back out of an agreement with YouTube to allow their artists music/videos on the popular video sharing site. As a result, tons of videos have been removed or disabled because the site no longer has the rights to allow the copyrighted material. Green Day's official channel no longer has any videos, even the Working Class Hero video, which was posted by SaveDarfur has been removed. Read AP Story about the deal
We've also heard that a few users who had used Green Day songs in the background of the videos got notices that their videos were being taken down.
Warner's response was that they were still interested in working with YouTube to come up with a deal, but "We simply cannot accept terms that fail to appropriately and fairly compensate recording artists, songwriters, labels and publishers for the value they provide". And by "fairly compensate" I'm sure they mean give the labels 100% of the income so they can "fairily distribute" 2% of it to the artists.
The record industry isn't failing because a million people go online to watch some official Green Day videos, it's also not failing because someone decided to use Green Day in the background of a tribute video to a friend. None-the-less, Warner insists on being just a little bit more greedy and saying "fuck you" to the fans of these artists. These companies are failing because they don't think of their clients as artists, they think of them as money bags.
Hearing our playlist on the radio last night was pretty amazing. If you didn't get a chance to hear it, stop by the forum for links to download the file.
My thanks to Absolute Radio, Ben Jones (DJ who played the list), and the thousands of you that voted for our list and helped us win. It was great to hear that the radio station was getting such positive feedback during the show as well. Definitely one of our highlights of the year.
Today Absolute Radio will play our playlist from the Rockoff contest; 12 songs that we chose, 6 Green Day songs, 6 non Green Day songs. They've been mentioning the site on the radio all day and we're pretty excited about winning. We purposely chose 12 songs that aren't often heard on the radio, we stayed away from picking the Green Day songs everyone already knows, so we hope to get a few more people to listen to some of the material that hasn't been released as singles.
You can listen to our playlist at 9pm GMT, 4pm EST. If you don't live in the UK and want to listen, you can do so online via the link below. http://www.absoluteradio.co.uk/listen/.
Thanks to everyone's work in getting out the vote we've won Absolute Radio's Rockoff contest. They will be playing our playlist tomorrow at 9pm GMT, 4pm EST.
We went through 4 rounds of voting against the Kaiser Cheifs, The Strokes, Coldplay and Pink Floyd, and we made through all of them because you guys reached out to everyone possible (though the Coldplay one was pretty close). Thanks again to all of you who participated. Lets get wasted now.
Today is the final day to vote for Green Day against Pink Floyd. Everyone needs to click here, vote for Green Day, then pass the link on to your friends. If we win, Absolute Radio dedicated December 22nd to Green Day, and we get our own show to play the 12 songs we choose. Vote now, and I promise this will be the last time I bug you guys about it.
The Official Green Day Street Team is back!
Head over to www.teamgreenday.com to sign up for the Official Street Team for Green Day and start spreading the word. They just posted new "Green Day Coming 2009" banners that you can post everywhere online. They will also have contests coming up soon! www.teamgreenday.com. Sign up now.
Voting has now started in the final round of the Rock off. Green Day vs. Pink Floyd. We need everyone's help in voting and sharing the link. Pass it around to all your friends and tell them to vote for Green Day. Vote now!
Mr. Mike Dirnt showed up at an the opening of the Good Samaritan's Art Exhibit at the Copro Nason Gallery in Santa Monica, CA on Saturday. The photo to the right (Click for larger version) was taken of Mike with the Gallery's owner, Greg Escalante, in front of some art by artist Nathan Spoor. The picture comes via Juxtapoz.com.
Update: We won!! Green Day won with 50.2% of the vote, only 45 votes. That was the closest contest so far, and we made it with our final push of votes. Thanks again to all of you. We vote again tomorrow for the final round.
Billie Joe has posted up a quick note over at the NRDC MySpace blog asking people to read a message from actor Robert Redford, then act by sending off a letter of opposition to the Bush administrations plans to sell off 160,000 acres of wilderness to oil and gas people.
If only we could get Billie Joe to post a blog telling people to vote for us.
Today we're up against Coldplay in the Absolute Radio Rockoff, we're one of the final 4 sites to have made it to the semi finals! The Coldplay forum is very large, so we need all of you to go here and vote for "Green Day", then pass the link to all your friends online and tell them to vote. We have 23 hours to get as many people to vote for us as we can. Help us win!
I came across this really nice 2004 Green Day Tour shirt at Amazon, and thought I'd pass it along for those of you looking for some new shirts. It's $24, and they ship internationally. I don't remember seeing this one, but this also reminded me that I really need to work on a new merchandise section (added to my to-do list).
Our affiliate, Green Day Online is having a Green Day comic contest. They're looking for people to submit their Green Day comics for a chance to win some free Green Day stuff and gift certificates to Interpunk and SmartPunk.com. Be sure to visit their site for the details.
The new Green Day "Pop Art" shirts we first mentioned back in July are now available on HotTopic.com.
Big Cheese magazine has poll up on their site asking which band will rule in 2009. Clearly with the next album coming next year, we know who that will be. You can vote for Green Day here amongst other 11 bands. [Thanks to bikini_kill for the info]
Just wanted to make a quick note about something we get emails about. A few people have asked (bitched) about why we delete some comments. The two main rules for our comments is that they should be related to whatever topic is covered in the news post and should not include links to your email/myspace and definitely not your phone number (thats just common sense). But one thing we ask that your posts are at least thoughtful and coherent. - Avoid excessive exclamation marks and using caps lock. - Make your comments readable, otherwise it's just kind of annoying for the people who do try to read through them. Just type like a normal person, it's really not hard.
I know there are plenty of you out there who read the news and never comment, I'd like to invite more of you to participate in the comments so we can make them a more enjoyable part of the site, so long as you're willing to follow the things mentioned above.
As for Green Day news, nothing special but there is an interview posted over at the Idiot Club with an interview with Jimmy Frick, a guy from Albuquerque, New Mexico (wooot!) who got pulled up on stage to play with the band in 2005. Check it out[Thanks J'net for bringing to my attention]
There's also an article in Newsweek, which talks about American Idiot's place as art and part of our culture during the Bush administration. They call it "protest art" after Bush's reelection. It's also an interesting piece which you can read here. [Thanks Beth]
AP has posted up the second part of it's interview with Billie Joe Armstrong. This one focuses a lot more about music. They ask him how close the band is now, and then talk a lot about their music that inspires him and how he feels about their music making an impact. Another very good interview that all of you should definitely check out.
The band is plastered all over the AltPress homepage, promoting the current magazine which is now out for purchase.
Thanks for all the votes yesterday in the Rock Off contest. We won with 77% of the vote, which moves us up into the semi-finals. Next we're up against Coldplay next Tuesday. We will definitely need the help then, so come back! We're in the final 4 participating in the semi-finals of the 16 finalists chosen. Woo
Last week our Green Day playlist made it through the first round of voting in Absolute Radio's Rockoff. 16 different forums are up against eachother with playlists for their favorite bands, we created ours with 6 Green Day songs 6 non. Today we're up against The Strokes. We need to win to be carried on to the next round. Voting only takes place for 23 hours, so
Today Tre celebrates his 36th birthday. Happy Birthday from GDA!
Adeline Records is having a pretty nice sale now in time for the holidays. Any orders over $25 get 10% off, while orders over $50 get 25%. They have some new hoodies and tshirts. It's worth checking out just because of the name alone, "Never Nude Sale." Get your orders in before December 17th if you want them to be shipped before New Years.
We're restarting our Editorial section today that we never focused enough on. We have a few writers who will be writing articles focused on certain aspects of Green Day every week, and the first one up is called "Songs of Love and Hell" and is really great read. It focuses a lot on the bands decision to use the Foxboro Hot Tubs as a way to step back into the light, and talks a bit about the new material. We're still working on this section and invite your feedback.
The Daily Californian has a very interesting article about the relationship between Green Day and 924 Gilman in Berkeley. Most know that this is the place where Green Day got it's start, which ended up throwing the band out after they signed to a major label. The article talks a bit about the relationship between the two, and how people felt then and now. It's a good read.
Voting has begun for the Absolute Radio Rockoff, where they asked forums to come up with the ultimate playlist. Our playlist is currently up for vote against a Kaiser Cheifs forum, and voting will be held over the next 24 hours. We need to win to move on to the next round.
We need all of you to go here and vote for 'Green Day' right now!!
Help us win! We have till 4:15pm EST tomorrow to vote, but go do it right now.
Update: We won, 80% - 20%. Good job everyone, and thanks for the votes.
Our forum has been selected as a finalist in Absolute Radio's Rockoff contest. We're one of a handful of forums who created our "ultimate" playlist, 6 Green Day songs, 6 non-Green Day songs, and we were chosen as one of the final 16. We go up against another forum tomorrow, December 3rd, you can view the matches here and all the other playlists here. We'll put a link in the news tomorrow so everyone can vote to help us win this contest, because obviously we have the best playlist. The discussion about this on our forum can be found here.
Lots of other sites are talking about the AP interview we posted up last week, here's Spinner's take on it for those of you interested in reading the same thing over again. The second part of that interview is expected to be posted this Thursday. We'll post it up here as soon as it goes up.
