Billie Joe first met Adrienne on Green Day's first tour in Minnesota. After having a long-distance relationship Billie Joe asked Adrienne to come out to California. As Billie Joe describes it in the Behind the Music interview:

Adrienne was something that had nothing to do with my band and I was totally in love with her. We got married a month later, she got a ratty little dress and we got married in my backyard.
