It seems that with the success and attention on the Broadway musical, talks about making the American Idiot story into a movie are in process again. This hasn't been confirmed anywhere, hence all the cautious words like "reportedly".
Contact Music and Deadline.com both have stories up about talks with Playtone production company, owned by Tom Hanks, which last released the stage-to-film movie Mama Mia!

The concept album has already been turned into a hit stage musical and now Hanks and his Playtone partner want to put it on the big screen, according to Internet reports.
