Epiphone releases Billie Joe Armstrong Les Paul Junior in Radiant Red
Man, Billie has been a busy little bee working with guitar and amp companies lately. Epiphone has just released a new limited-edition Billie Joe Armstrong Les Paul Junior in a very bright Radiant Red finish. The guitar is available now for $649 and includes the custom black hardshell case with the Warning Man logo and a leopard-print interior. Epiphone has not announced how many will be made or exactly how long it will remain available.
The Radiant Red model is largely the same guitar Epiphone released in Classic White in 2021. The new finish is the most obvious change, and a new rosewood fretboard replaces the Indian laurel used on the earlier version. The price has also increased from $549 to $649.
Otherwise, it keeps the same setup: one P-90 pickup, volume and tone controls, a black pickguard and Billie Joe's signature on the back of the headstock.
The 2021 release was also offered as a Player Pack bundle with an amp and accessories. Epiphone has not announced a Radiant Red version of that bundle.
Billie's history with the Les Paul Junior goes back to 2000, when he bought the 1956 sunburst model known as "Floyd." It became one of his main guitars during the Warning and American Idiot years and he still uses it today.
Gibson released the first Billie Joe Armstrong signature Les Paul Junior in 2006, closely based on Floyd, for $1,399. Epiphone, Gibson's more affordable brand, followed with a lower-priced Classic White version in 2021. That model has since been discontinued, but the new Radiant Red edition continues the same basic design for $649. You can order the guitar from Musicians Friend.
The timing is convenient. It arrives just as Billie Joe's new Marshall 1959BJA signature amp goes on sale.
