- Crossbeat: 'Green Day arrived at Kansai International Airport from South Korea on January 19th. Apparently, they had been partying until morning after their concert in South Korea the previous day, and the band looked very tired when they arrived at Kansai Airport. Tre Cool showed us a photo of an octopus sucking on his face at a restaurant in South Korea. After a short rest at the hotel, Billie Joe went shopping in Denden Town. He didn't buy anything in particular, but it seems he and his manager were looking for a projector to project DVDs onto the hotel wall. For dinner, he wanted to eat some delicious sushi, so they went to a local sushi restaurant near the hotel. It was a small restaurant with only a counter and a small tatami room, so they practically had the place to themselves. The fatty tuna he ate first was so delicious that he kept asking for more and more tuna, much to the annoyance of the chef. After regaining their energy with sushi, the group headed to a small rock bar in Osaka that they always visit, which is filled with Rolling Stones vinyl records. This place is small, so it was packed to capacity once Green Day and their group entered. Billie was in a great mood at his favorite bar, requesting lots of Stones songs. After this, they went bar hopping to another famous rock bar in Osaka. Since the next day was a day off, they seemed determined to drink as much as they could that day. At the second bar, they met up with the crew who had arrived earlier and the opening act, Prima Donna. There were about 30 of them in total, and they had the place all to themselves. This bar is usually packed with fans because any overseas band that comes to Osaka always stops by, but it seems no one expected Green Day to come two days earlier, as there were only two or three regular customers. Everyone else was part of the "Green Day" team. The tables were moved to the side, and 30 men danced wildly on the floor. Billie was lifted up in the air many times and tumbled to the floor. It was like a high school drinking party. Billie was somewhat forcibly taken away by security, and Mike Dirnt stopped nearby for some ramen before returning to the hotel.'
- Crossbeat: 'In stark contrast to the party that lasted until the morning of January 20th, the next day was quiet, allowing everyone to prepare for the next day's performance at Osaka-jo Hall. Tre enjoyed sightseeing in Osaka with local friends and apparently visited Osaka Castle for the first time. Mike stayed holed up in the hotel all day. Billie wandered around Amerikamura in the evening but didn't buy anything, and ended the day by eating udon on the way back. Billie only vaguely remembered the previous day's wild partying, saying he was "embarrassed" and "aching all over.” He must have been covered in bruises after rolling around on the floor so much. Sound check was at 3 pm on January 21st. Until then, the band stayed at the hotel. Maintaining good physical condition is essential for performing a 2.5-hour show every day, especially one that requires such full effort. Billie, in particular, spends the whole day adjusting his voice for the show. The 2.5-hour show ends at 9:30 pm, and then they eat dinner prepared by their personal chef in the dressing room. That night they had a Mexican taco party, and didn't get back to the hotel until almost midnight.'
- Ikuyo Kotani for Crossbeat: ‘When the Ramones’ “Rock ’n’ Roll Radio” started playing, the entire venue, even the packed stands, rose to their feet! Following the line “Stay tuned for more rock ’n’ roll,” the next song to come from the speakers was “Song of the Century.” From this delightful opening, they launched into “21st Century Breakdown.” Frontman Billie Joe immediately took control of the stage, hyping up the crowd with a “Hey-oh.” In the next song, “Know Your Enemy,” he rushed down from the stage and sprinted at full speed around the crowd! The sheer scale of the pyrotechnics, the way he incorporated Osaka into the lyrics at every turn, and the incredible volume—the crowd responded by screaming everything from “Nice Guys Finish Last” to “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” As usual, there were giant water guns, toilet roll launchers, etc. “King for a Day” included flashy hats, as always. While lying down, Billie invited the crowd to join a chorus of “Hey Jude,” perfectly executed. From “Minority” to “American Idiot,” I was thrilled by the high-energy performance. But what really touched me was the encore. These songs sung with just an acoustic guitar. It’s hard to believe this is the same guy who just ran around and screamed endlessly. The show, which lasted over two and a half hours, came to a close. The songs from American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown never lost momentum, no matter which were played or in what order. No matter how grand the work, Green Day’s fun and uniting attitude never changed, as they always poured energy and enjoyment into every song. That was what made me the happiest. I wonder how many fans, from small children to rowdy boys and girls in costumes, went up on stage that day. The stars of the Green Day show are always us, the fans.’
