- Crossbeat: 'On January 22nd, Green Day traveled from Osaka to Tokyo by Shinkansen. They checked into their Tokyo hotel around 5 pm. Afterwards, Billie went record shopping in Shinjuku. Later, he went to a high-end sushi restaurant inside the hotel. His purchases included several vinyls by the legendary 70s punk band, The Boys. On January 23rd, Billie’s stylist went to his favorite shop in Daikanyama to buy a suit for the Grammy Awards. She picked out about five suits that she thought would suit him, and he liked them all and bought them immediately.'
- Hideyuki Otani for Crossbeat: ’Green Day drew a record-breaking 20,000 people to this show! The first day at Saitama Super Arena was their largest solo performance in Japan to date, and an incredible energy was swirling even before the show began. As "21st Century Breakdown" blared in the darkness, a night view of a city was projected onto the screen. At that moment, the audience's screams reached their peak, and it was immediately clear from this opening alone that the three members were about to venture into a new world once again. To put it simply, this tour's theme was Green Day's first attempt at arena rock. While they've played in large venues before, this extravagant performance utilizing massive screens was unprecedented. Moreover, the visuals changed with each song, from nightscapes to flames, air raids, and mirror balls. As the atmosphere changed, fireworks, pyrotechnics, and pillars of fire exploded one after another. It was clear that Green Day had stepped into the territory of U2 and the Rolling Stones. The music, with the addition of three support members on saxophone, keyboards, and other instruments, was, of course, also excellent. The first half, centered around "21st Century Breakdown" and "American Idiot," enveloped the venue with the scale of the vocals, while the second half, featuring a string of their past hits, felt like they were throwing straight pitches at you. Also, on this tour, they changed the setlist quite a bit from day to day, and on this particular day they performed The Who's "My Generation" and "American Eurogy," among others. This showed just how well the band was in shape. Thus, the three have grown even more in terms of performance and music, but they are still not the same as before. Some things haven't changed. There was absolutely no gap between the band and the audience as is usually typical of arena rock. Billie Joe actively included the audience, bringing fans onto the stage to dive, having them sing "Longview," and wearing masks given to him by fans. This attitude of the band standing on equal footing with the fans is truly characteristic of Green Day. Before we knew it, this day's show had been an incredible 28 songs, lasting 2 hours and 20 minutes. The sheer scale of such a massive arena, combined with the relatable punk spirit of "our band”—these three have become a truly unique band, capable of achieving such a miraculous balance.’
