Back in December of 2009, an announcement at the VGA awards by the band was made about Green Day: Rock Band. The game chronicles the band's career from their breakout success of Dookie in 1994, to their conquer-the-world releases of American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown in recent years. Green Day Rock Band has 47 songs, which includes the entire Dookie and American Idiot albums... as well as 21st Century Breakdown if the six already available DLC songs are purchased. The full set list can be viewed by clicking here.

The game contains three different venues: The Warehouse, Milton Keynes, and The Fox Theater.

In the Career Mode, players can unlock archival material such as never before seen photos, interviews, and live performances. There are more than 100 images and more than 40 minutes of video straight from the vaults of Warner and MTV.

There are two versions of the game available to purchase: The standard edition and the Plus edition. With the Plus edition (which is an extra $10) buyers receive a code to download the six already available songs from the Rock Band store as well as another code to export all the songs from Green Day: Rock Band to the player's Rock Band library to play on Rock Band, Rock Band 2, and Rock Band 3.
