  • William Nichols: "On 22 July 1989, I gave Green Day their first ever radio interview at KALX and recorded them live, at Berkeley Square... ...On my DJ show at KALX, I interviewed Killdozer and the opening band before this show at Berkeley Square. I was also the club DJ at the Berkeley Square. I made board tapes of both Killdozer and the openers. Some kid, a friend of the 17 year olds in the opening band, came up to my booth and asked for a copy of his friends' band. I said, 'Here just take the original. I only wanted to make sure the cassette deck was working for when Killdozer plays.' The 17 year old warm up band on that tape I gave away just got inducted into the R&RHOF this year. I told this story to one of the band members years later hoping he might put me in touch with a copy of my long lost tape of their set. All he could say was, 'Aw man, no, I don't have a copy. But, hey, can I get a copy of the Killdozer set if you still have it?' Which I do, so when I happen to run into Billie Joe Armstrong again..."
