Building off of what Tony has been working on over the past two months with Green Day fan covers, we have decided to add onto his idea by also posting fans original music that has been influenced by Green Day. About once every other month the GDA staff will pick a band that has been influenced greatly by Green Day and we feel that GDA visitors would enjoy.

Our first "Featured Band" is Playground Beatdown from New Provodence, New Jersey. The band is comprised of Justin Calaycay (Vocals), Michael Shamovsky (Bass), Mike Tredici (Guitar), Brian Hughes (Guitar/Backing Vocals), and Alex Agresti (Drums).

Playground Beatdown was first formed midway through 2009 by vocalist Justin Calaycay and drummer Alex Agresti. Soon after, they recruited Michael Shamovsky on bass and began playing shows. The band won 1st place in the Jersey Shows 'Get Heard Fest' battle of the bands on only their third time playing live as a band ever.

I personally have gotten the opportunity to see Playground Beatdown a few times, most recently in July and I have to say that I fully understand what Larry Livermore meant when he said that the first time he saw Green Day live was like "watching The Beatles at Shea Stadium". The bands stage performance is huge and with a band so young there seems to be only good things to come from Playground Beatdown.
