During Green Day's time with Zane Lowe last night the band hinted towards the fact that they would be playing towards the festival. Billie Joe said that "If there were ever any rumors about us playing Reading I think that playing Dookie from front to back would be novel idea." You can listen to a clip of Billie making the announcement below:

In this article, NME was able to confirm that the band will play at 12pm on Saturday, August 25th, on the NME / Radio One stage. Tickets to the festival are still available from Reading's website for £85.

Rumors first starting floating around that the band would be playing Reading after a new tour shirt was being sold at Green Day's Japanese shows last week with Reading listed as a date on the tour. The subject came up again when Billie posted a picture on Instagram with the caption reading, "Hello England! What rhymes with shredding??!!"

The last time that Green Day played at the Reading Festival was in 2004 right before American Idiot was released. Check out this video of "Basketcase" and "She" from Reading 2004. In the past other bands such as the Foo Fighters and Them Crooked Vultures have done similar surprise sets at the Reading Festival.
