[pic=Oakland Coffee Works]122215_oaklandcoffee.jpg[/pic]According to The Financial Times, Billie Joe and Mike Dirnt are getting ready to launch a new organic coffee bean roasting company, Oakland Coffee Works.

Launching this week, the coffee company will sell "moderately-priced" organic coffee beans that will only be available in compostable bags and pods.

On the decision to use only compostable bags and pods, Mike mentions that he and Billie Joe wanted to reduce the environmental impact of their company. To achieve this, they teamed up UrthPact, a company that is producing compostable bags made out of starches and sugars which can be consumed by micro-organisms in the soil.

Aging punk rockers gotta have a vice. I’ve been drinking coffee all these years, I looked at the coffee bags and realized they’re all landfill. It was astonishing to me. I hope that the big companies out there step up to the plate too.

Check out their website by clicking here, where you can purchase a bag of the coffee and a t-shirt. The company is also on Instagram and Twitter at @OaklandCoffee.
