In this annual event, MTV hands out awards to top music videos of the year from multiple genres and categories. This year's show, hosted by Chelsea Handler, will include performances from Linkin Park, Paramore, Eminem, 30 Seconds to Mars, Katy Pery, and many more.

I mention this because Green Day's video for "21st Century Breakdown" is up for the Best Special Effects award on tonight's show. I highly doubt that the award will be given out during the show... most likely during the pre-show. So I also doubt that the band will be there to accept the award if they do win.

But, that hasn't been confirmed either way so we will have to wait and see. It would be great if they performed but I don't think that they will since the show is in Los Angeles and the band performs the next night in New Jersey for Monday Night Football.

Green Day won three awards during last year's show (Best Rock Video, Best Direction and Best Cinematography) and also performed "East Jesus Nowhere."
