Mark Hoppus: "I remember it was funny because all the talk was that Green Day were gonna be signed to a major label, and back then there were lots of arguments as to whether people should to major labels. Billie Joe was onstage and he said, 'Hey everyone, make sure you clap really loud because the executives from the label are trying to decide whether they want us to sign or not tonight, so let them know what do you think.' He was making a joke out of it which was pretty cool."
