[caption=Rolling Stone June 2012]061912_rollingstone.jpg[/caption]The newest issue of Rolling Stone is out featuring an article on Green Day's upcoming new albums titled "Green Day Ditch Rock Operas for Raw Punk LPs". This is the first in-depth interview with Green Day about the new albums and what we can expect. Rolling Stone senior editor, David Fricke, sat down with Green Day at Ocean Way Studios in Los Angeles.

The issue is available now. You can read the scans in our articles section thanks to @TalknCircles.

The biggest news to surface from the article is that there will be a total of 36 songs released on the upcoming trilogy of albums. Billie Joe describes the albums like this:

The first one is power pop. The second is more garage-y, Nuggets-type rock. And the third - is supposed to be epic.

In the first album, you're getting in the mood to party. On ¡Dos!, you're at the party, and on the third album, you're cleaning up the mess.

Producer Rob Cavallo says "We wanted to go back to the simplicity of Dookie."

The band started writing new music on the 21st Century Breakdown tour and wrote over 70 songs. Mike mentions they have been rehearsing and fine-tuning the songs for the last year. Included in the track list is the Amy Winehouse tribute "Amy" which was first played last year in Costa Mesa, CA.

You really need to read the full article. It's a really fucking exciting look at what we can expect.

Thanks to @TalknCircles for sending this news.
