Mike Dirnt Equipment

Fender introduced the Mike Dirnt Precision Bass in 2004, combining the slab-sided look of an early-1950s Precision with features drawn from Mike’s favorite later models. It has an ash body, a thick “C”-shaped maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, Custom Shop ’59 split-coil pickup, and a Leo Quan Badass II bridge. The bass was used extensively during the American Idiot sessions and later became a major part of the sound of the '¡Uno!' '¡Dos!' '¡Tré!' trilogy, as well as 'Revolution Radio'. He returned to it for portions of 'Father of All Motherfuckers' and 'Saviors'.

Epiphone released the Mike Dirnt Grabber G-3 on November 18, 2025, in Silverburst and Natural finishes. Based on Mike's original mid-1970s Gibson G-3, the signature model features a double-cutaway maple body, three-piece maple neck, 34-inch scale, 20 medium-jumbo frets, three Gibson G-3 pickups, and a string-through Leo Quan Badass II bridge. Its three-position selector uses the G-3's distinctive "buck-and-a-half" wiring to combine different pickup pairs into hum-canceling configurations. Mike tested the Epiphone onstage before its release, but because it debuted after 'Saviors', it has not yet made it on a Green Day album. It should not be confused with his original Gibson G-3, which he used to record "Longview" and other material during Green Day's earlier years.

Squire introduced a more affordable version of Mike Dirnt's signature Precision Bass in 2010. Now discontinued, it retained the early-style body and thick "C"-shaped neck while using more affordable hardware and a standard split-coil Precision pickup.
