According to Billie Joe, this song is autobiographical, and details his state of mind before going to rehab in September 2012. The narrator is tired of everything and everyone, and has worked himself down into a deep rut of self-pity. He feels worthless, and doesn't know where to turn. He's not looking for pity or understanding, and doesn't want to accept any help from anyone; he got himself in this mess. All he wants is silence, and his own "peace of mind."
