Saviors
Fever
Song Meaning
Fever is a Japanese-edition bonus track on Saviors, but it actually started life as an outtake from the Father of All Motherfuckers sessions. Per Billie Joe on KROQ's Kevin & Bean Show, the band recorded 17 tracks during the FOAM era and only 10 made the album, so a handful got shelved. Fever is one of those resurrected leftovers.
Lyrically it's a different vibe from most of Saviors proper: a slice of "summer when you're a teenager" nostalgia. "You're just a baby looking for some fun on a lazy day and you're getting blazed on a summer night" is a softer, wistful Green Day mode that probably wouldn't have fit cleanly on the main tracklist, which is likely why it ended up as a bonus.
This one plays like a snapshot of reckless freedom, the kind where everything feels urgent even if it has no direction. You've got the usual Green Day elements: friends, weekends, getting high, and chasing something just to feel alive. The lyrics lean into that idea that you're still figuring things out, but acting like you've got it all under control. It's not trying to say something big about the world, it's just capturing that restless, impulsive phase where boredom turns into fun chaos.

Lyrics
It's never easy
When you're young
But you got your friends and the weekends
On a summer night
You're just a baby
Looking for some fun
On a lazy day and you're getting blazed
On a summer night
I've got a fever tonight
Fever tonight (Fever tonight)
Runaway from home with no place to go
Got a fever tonight
Here comes trouble
And it's going down
Singing life's a gas when you're going fast
Looking for a fight
I've got a fever tonight
Fever tonight (Fever tonight)
Runaway from home with no place to go
Got a fever tonight
Fever tonight
Fever tonight (Fever tonight)
Runaway from home with no place to go
Got a fever tonight
Fever tonight
Fever tonight (Fever tonight)
Runaway from home with no place to go
Got a fever tonight
When you're young
But you got your friends and the weekends
On a summer night
You're just a baby
Looking for some fun
On a lazy day and you're getting blazed
On a summer night
I've got a fever tonight
