    Song Meaning
    Fan interpretation:
'I'm riding shotgun in a car that's broken down.' A metaphor for how the narrator's lover was carrying the relationship (driving the car he only rode shotgun in) until it broke down and she suddenly took off. He's come to his senses - perhaps after a binge - only to find himself alone.
'Nowhere to run and this city's like a ghost town.' The narrator can't avoid facing the truth - he's lost his lover and feels like there's no-one he can turn to because he knows he did this to himself.
'And I'm feeling like a stranger, and I'm stranded in the dark.' He doesn't recognise himself and feels alienated from everyone as he comes to terms with what he's done. He doesn't know how he can get through this without the person he's lost.
'Hey kid, love is for losers now. Stupid kid, you're a loser now.' The heartbroken narrator petulantly declares that 'love is for losers' and mocks himself for ever believing it would work.
'My heart's a has-been for my long lost valentine.' She's long gone, but his heart is still stuck in the past because he can't get over her.
'I searched the winter for the bride of Frankenstein.' In the book 'Frankenstein,' the monster asks his creator, Dr. Frankenstein, to create a bride so he won't be so alone. The doctor initially agrees to create one, but abandons her out of fear they might produce more monsters. The bride of Frankenstein can't exist; she was and will never be more than a dream. The narrator of 'Love is for Losers' not only feels like a monster himself, but knows he's 'chasing a ghost' - a bride he can never have. Searching the 'winter' may also refer to the conclusion of 'Frankenstein' when, after losing everything to his own creation, the doctor dies while chasing the monster in the Arctic. In this song, it would be a metaphor for hopelessness; he could chase his demons or his long-lost love across the ice too, but he would only die unsatisfied.
'But we all got our delusions, say goodbye to an old flame.' But, like the monster, the narrator still imagines a world in which his bride could exist, even as he accepts he must 'say goodbye.'
'It goes to show ya, when they say that love is pain. The cliche turned out to be true.
Only the lonesome, got nowhere to run for the tears to go...' The narrator invites all the lonesome to wallow together, as Billie Joe once introduced a Longshot song as 'one more for you lonely motherfuckers.'"
    Lyrics
I'm riding shotgun in a car that's broken down
Nowhere to run and this city's like a ghost town
And I'm feeling like a stranger
And I'm stranded in the dark

Hey kid, love is for losers now
    Alright
Stupid kid, you're a loser now
    Alright

    My heart's a has-been for my long-lost valentine
I searched the winter for the bride of Frankenstein
Well, we all got our delusions
Say goodbye to an old flame

Hey kid, love is for losers now
    Alright
Stupid kid, you're a loser now
    Alright

    It goes to show ya
When they say that love is pain
    Only the lonesome
Got nowhere to run for the tears to go away

Hey kid, love is for losers now
    Alright
Stupid kid, you're a loser now
    Alright
