SiriusXM has shared snippits from a discussion on Green Day's channel, 'Idiot Nation', where they discuss the success of 'Dookie'. Video below, and transcript below that. You can listen to their channel on SiriusXM idiot Nation 314.

Transcript:
" Tre: Before we made Dookie, it was a proven fact that punk rock does not sell. Fuck facts!
Billie Joe: I think Dookie being Double Diamond is sort of a testament to what we wanted to start with. We wanted to make a record that we can play these songs for the rest of our lives. When I hear a song like Can't Explain or My Generation by The Who, I think those songs sound like they were written yesterday.
Mike: I expected it. I'm expecting a lot more, actually. I have high expectations.
Billie Joe: With a name like Dookie, I don't know if you have any expectations at all.
Mike: Yeah, we expected to polish that turd.
Billie Joe: Great music is not measured by popularity or numbers, but I do think that we're incredibly fortunate that this record has been able to last through multiple generations."
