The piece is made up of over 13,000 black and white hexagons each the size of a thumbnail, sewn together entirely by hand and positioned to give the tone and shading of Billie's face. It took (on and off) just under a year, and covers a bed.

Having been severely ill last year, this project initially became my 'occupational therapy' - and what better choice of subject than the man who stuck with me via headphones every moment of my recovery? In a way, it's my tribute to the man I owe so f*cking much to....

After exhibiting to 30,000 people at the Birmingham Festival of Quilts (UK), it's also pretty awesome to personally hear thousands of old ladies now walking around talking about a man I'm betting many had never heard of before!
