Listen to that portion of the song
"Old magazine by the Bemis toilet
Strategically placed for those who don't know yet
That I thought I'd be the next Billie Joe
My attempt to emulate him was thwarted by my ego"

That I thought I'd be the next Billie Joe

This is not the first time Billie Joe has been mentioned by the band. The band's lead singer and songwriter has placed Green Day as one of his top musical influences, so it's no surprise the lyrics would be a salute to Billie.
You may also know them for their single "Alive With the Glory of Love" back in '06.
